I'm more of a "girly-girl" so I prefer sticking to the female regimen. My human warrior is a male, though. I loves him.

Figure this is a good place as any for a 1st Forum Posting. First and foremost, I am a guy and I would have to say about 75% of my characters, I have that damned contagious alt addiction, are female.
I agree with some of the visual appeals with some more fluid animations and grace and I also agree with the fact watching a girl run around is more entertaining at times than watching some ape-like Orc. But the other reason, which actually is the most prominent for me, is the customization. I didn't see that really touched, but in the vast majority of the games (not limiting this to WoW here) female avatars get a ton more options to fiddle with to create your ideal look. With guys you get, usually, one option. Hair, be it head or facial. Roll a female avatar and suddenly you're getting a lot more hair color options, more varied hairstyles, piercings, and even makeup. Who can pass that up?
So yeah, aside from the "r u a girl irl?" crap at least once every AV, so much more offered to the player in choices.

I play both male and female toons, with a slight imbalance (55-60%) in favor of females. My highest level characters are female, and I've seldom had a problem with people harassing me about my character's sex. I suppose I exude an aura of manliness. Or unsexiness. One of the two.
Part of my choice in character sex is due to RP considerations, and part of it is aesthetics. The male characters in this game really are, by and large, terribly ugly. Can't really stand the disturbing proportions on most of them. And, as was touched upon above, the female characters for some races have a much greater variety of customization choices (this doesn't really apply to trolls and tauren, poor things).

Seconded!
You won't believe how much I'd love this. *sigh* We're supposed to play these strong, heroic, independent women... who randomly act like little girls? What is this? I don't even... *throws hands up in the air*

This is why my only night elf toons are Kalliope, cause she was my first character, and my druid, because I had no choice AND because I could hide in forms.
I get a much more consistent independent vibe off of all of my other toons. Even the slender blood elves and short-statured gnomes.
On this note, I can't wait until I can ditch the bellydancing crap as well. I am SO stealing the Electric Slide for Kalliope.

I don't like the Night Elf dance (kinda slutty) but what's wrong with being random and cute sometimes? If you want to turn it off, fine, but aren't quirks good?

Quirks, yes. Random acts of "OMG for a second there I forgot that I'm actually an innocent, helpless little girl" not so much... That's the vibe I get. A shrug or sigh is a quirk, but bouncing or shaking your boobies or whatnot is just... too tied in with female stereotypes, I guess. It's too late for me, so I don't know if it makes any sense. Sorry. >.<

Dont take me for some kind of pervert, but all my Chars exept my Warlock are Females, why you might ask?!
Well becouse the Female model is often more stealthy, smaller, GREAT in PvP!

It makes perfect sense.
It's an emote that's there for the male players, not the female ones.
I don't want to play eye candy, tyvm.
(I didn't know any better at the time to NOT roll an elf, sigh.)

/shrug Didn't think it implied helplessness. More just amused by it because it's so unexpected. They should have something for guys, too, but I can't think what it would be. It's like a gnome Death Knight. Just something that makes you chuckle. Sometimes I take out my Sprite Darter Hatchling on my male Death Knight. My Paladin male had a soft spot for cats. I didn't intend for it to be a political statement, just more of something that made me smile. I'm gay, so it's not a matter of finding it sexy. It helps me remember not to take things too seriously.
(I've always said they should make the guys bounce too)

Now if Fandal Staghelm was holding one of his hate tauren druids speeches and suddenly started bounching like a female Night Elf...oh god the images they kill me with laughter.

Nah, I didn't take it as a political statement or anything, you just brought something up that's been bothering me, that's all. I think it'd be great if all characters had built in quirks (non-gender specific would be great), or even better, that we could customise it. Imagine if you could pick your character's idle animation!
But it's tiresome to play a character for whom that girly girly stuff is totally out of character... and then have her giggle-bounce while you're getting ready to pop into bear form and tear a boss a new one. My druid's hardly ever in nelf form for that reason.

Depends for me. I play Female Nightelve because the males are too top heavy, same with Draenei. Dwarves I'll play either, same with gnomes. Humans more leaning towards female but will also play male. Horde I tend to play almost all male. BloodElves I could go eitherway because the males are top heavy again. Undead I don't mind either, troll I don't mind either, Orc I don't mind either. Generally not too picky I guess : )

Totally agree. I rolled Sil when I was still on my trial version, or I probably would have picked a draenei. But I had NO idea what their dance or idles were like. I just thought elves were cool!
While everyone in Petopians probably knows by now I don't mind a good dance party, I never dance on my night elf. Ever. Sorry, but I'm not interested in cat-calls. She's a serious hunter, thanks.
EDIT: Forgot to mention...a few other chars have interesting secondary idles. The 'look around' one for the undead females makes me laugh...they like, double back on themselves. And the BE males have an amusing "Huh? What, REALLY? Nooooo...." head shake. Unfortunately, most of them are too subtle to notice....

When I choose gender, it depends on the race. Some (such as Human and Gnome) are usually female when I make them, while others (Draenei and Trolls) would most likely be male. As for the rest, it wouldn't be much of a stretch for me to choose either sex.
In practice, I have two level 4X females and a level 80 male.

Ahaha, that one is so funny. xD They look absolutely dumbfounded by someone else's stupidity or something.
