Gender Choice?

Unread post by VelkynKarma »

We've had this convo a few times in GChat on Nessingwary. Figured I'd throw it out to the rest of you.

What do you prefer? Male characters? Female? Do you prefer your chars match your own gender? Do you do the opposite? Mix it up a little bit?

I'm female, but I have both male and female chars. I usually just choose the race model that I think looks better or more fluid. I prefer to play tauren females for example because the male models just look too big and chunky, while I prefer playing male be's because the females are just so skinny and their laughs bug me sometimes. And some models I don't mind either gender (I've played both male and female trolls for example).

You guys?

I have no problem playing male characters but nine times out of ten I'll role a female. Maybe I just feel like I relate better to them, plus I really never have to bother with people asking my gender and I can just play it off as getting into character if I really don't want them to know...

I have an equal number of both male and female characters. :) Though I usually make my main a female, I still love rolling males since they have some great animations and looks.

Nearly all my characters are female. I guess that has a little bit to do with that I play with my husband a lot, and I like having a counterpart for his characters, hehe. However, my rogue is a male troll, just because male trolls are awesome. <3

Female characters. I usually like their animations better. I have quite a few male ones too tough, mostly because the hit sound of the females sounds like a bad porno.

I also like Draenei Male gun animation. But that's another point. :D

I also exist on DeviantArt.

All my characters are female, I just prefer how they look. The exception are my bank alts which tend to be males.

I don't mind playing male characters, but I feel a bit more attuned to the same gender as myself so I tend to play females more. XD

I tend towards the female, though some of that is just because I prefer the way they look. Female draenei and female trolls are among my favorites, for instance. However, my druid is a male Tauren, because I find the females are too far into the Uncanny Valley for me to stand looking at them for long (the males aren't much better, but my druid gets to stay a kitty pretty much always anyways). I also seem to roll a lot of male belfies for my for-fun toons (my rogue, my <Petopians> hunter, etc). Male belves are just so fun. (You ever listen to their /silly's and /flirt's? Fun times!) I find it nice to escape to a male toon every so often as well, just because there is a slight difference in treatment, and the change can be refreshing.

In most cases I prefer females to males - they just appeal to me more. (I'm a girl mind you, so no horny thoughts there! XD) Some of the males (Draenei, Nelf) have downright freaky animations I can't stand for long. Seriously... Ever tried a Draenei using a crossbow? That whole "swing the thing around between shots" drives me crazy. And the Nelves have weird floppy ears.. *shiver*

I also prefer smaller toons, so with Tauren and Orcs, females just feel more natural to me, being a small person myself.

And I happen to like my floppy ears (they could be a little shorter) thankyou very much Miss I bounce while I stand. xD Thought I still hate that male nelfs are monkey men and have lightbulb eyes and look like they are old as mummies.

But yeah, most of my character roster is male, I don't know why.
Maybe I am insecure or something, I'll figure out the reason at some point.

I do have my females but I mostly roleplay males or that I wish sometimes I could be male.
.....or it might be because male draenei are cool looking....What? Scratch that I love creating a new draenei toon of any gender.
Oddly if I make an undead it's always female.

I guess I am pretty neutral about it in the end.

What gender i coose for my toons is always based on my mood at the time. Sometimes it's male sometimes it's female.

So, it seems that I'll be a first here.

I'm male, and pretty much exclusively roll female toons.

Its not because I'm a perv (although I am) , I just can't stand any of the male models except for the blood elves. They're either too bulky, or have just weird animations. It does confuse a lot of people when I finally tell them that I'm a dude, but they get used to it.

I roll male toons.

I have played as a female a couple times, but I tend to associate strongly with the character I'm playing, so the times I've rolled female characters it sort of prevented me from identifying as fully as I would have liked... if that makes sense.

Although I have to say, the proportions of several of the male models bother me considerably at times. (The way the giant forearms merge into tiny hands, with seemingly no wrists, on orc males for instance)

I do like the size difference on my main tauren hunter. Maybe just because in my mind I am still the smallest kid in school, but being bigger than a lot of the things I interact with is just sort of cool.

I mostly play female characters because I find it a nice change to play a character that is my gender for once (In almost EVERY game I've played, the player character is a male). Plus, they generally take up less screen space and I like the models better (coughmalehumanscough). The only exceptions are male trolls and undead. I guess I'm just not a huge fan of massive, bulky characters that appear to have to have been pumping iron since the age of 5.

I always role female characters. Being a female myself I feel like I can rp and know my character much better. I do not really like alot of the male models in the game, although my tauren was a male, the orcs always bothered me, and well almost every other male model but trolls!

Female IRL, and I mostly have female characters. Playing on RP servers I just find it easier to get in character with a character that is my own gender. Also I don't like how most male models are just oddly proportioned, with huge arms and upper bodies compared to the rest of the body. Only male trolls and blood elves don't have this problem.

My male characters are my two old twinks (29 tauren druid and 39 blood elf priest) and my troll DK, just because male trolls are sexy. I do find it odd that my two main pvp only characters where male, although my male blood elf wears a pinkish dress and looks more girly than any of my female characters. =P
