BTW, regarding Magmorax, I had someone on Bluesky comment that he was locked out of reaching the hydra after using the skip (which is after the first boss). He couldn't 100% prove that was the reason but it seems the most likely cause. Has anyone else experienced this? Or the opposite: anyone who did use the skip and could still activate Mags?

New manawurm texture datamined recently.
It seems to have been created specifically for a companion pet but the model is also used for wild (and often tameable) beasts so hopefully it'll also end up used that way.

The new green magma snail mount textures *almost* work on the non-mount model, but not quite. Gah!
The body & glows fit perfectly but the shell doesn't. The reason is the mount shell texture file also includes the saddle texture (separate 'images' but side-by-side in the same file).
If the shell texture was cut in half to excise the saddle portion and that copied to the non-mount model, along with the unmodified green body and glow textures, we could have green magma snails!

RIP Tundra Rhino. Easily the best clefthoof. If only we had a new clefthoof model that was also small... Dragonflight pets are cursed. The foal survived a whole patch before being unfairly stolen, and now the rhinos survived two expansions before being burgled from us. Meanwhile, TWW's eel and slug pets were (rightfully) allowed to stay tamed as they were. Let us keep misflagged pets, Blizzard!

I think (I'm not sure) that Mag (well, the lava worms that activate Mag when they die) only activates after you've killed the boss of the Anti-Personnel Mines (I don't remember the name). If you activate Skip, you open the gate to go to Fake Deathwing, but that doesn't activate Mag.

awws that's a shame about the tundra rhino. I guess he's getting chucked out of my stable now.

Oh yeah, this could easily be the case. I don't remember exactly but I have a feeling we're never able to attack or target the true Garalon, just the 'body part' npcs that are actually separate entities. If so, we'd never be able to target the true him to tame him. Does that sound about right?
Actually you CAN target Garalon directly...its even an achievement to kill him without breaking any of his legs. Just a weird mob all around it seems.

Though unfortunately it's raid boss sounds makes people around me hate me LOL.

Magmorax's sounds are hilarious. They're totally going to get fixed soon, but I still have fun with it. I did Brawler's Guild last night with two Magmorax, and on cooldown, I kept spamming Play Dead. The sound doubles up and becomes louder, and everyone could hear it. Eventually I slowed down and only did it when someone lost a match, but people found it amusing. Except when it was my turn and I was running around with two pets going THUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMP. Then it was only funny to me lol.

The tundra rhino I have still appears to be a clefthoof. Is this only new ones tamed that got the change?

It is a Scalehide in the Beta. The Beta has changes that haven't been implemented yet onto Retail WoW.

That's a bummer, I love Clefthooves for their survivability but none of their models really appealed to me, except this Armoredon I liked.

Yeah, the clefthoof situation is dire. There's nothing wrong with the models, but they're just not that widely appealing. Bears, camels (who even uses these?), gorillas, gruffhorns, oxen, pterrordax, and stone hounds are reliable alternatives to the clefthooves due to their triggered defense, but need just a pinch of extra healing. On top of that, there's a bunch of models and looks that fit a wider range of tastes than the limited clefthoof family. If you can stomach slowing down your runs, these will be more than sufficient until you try to solo the ?? difficulty bosses. Even then, your pet has been historically worthless because those bosses will instakill your pets (two shot for higher ilvl/clefthooves) for absolutely no justifiable reason. No, I refuse to acknowledge any argument towards this since it more or less invalidates Hunters, and that is bad game design when you invalidate an entire class, period. Delve devs need to use their brains and actually design things properly, but that's a rant for another time.
Really, there is no need to rely on clefthooves anyway. There's just no content where you NEED that crazy healing. Sure, if you want to minimize downtime by an extra minute or two overall, go for it, but all of the triggered defensive pets are perfectly usable alternatives. My vote goes to bears though because they have Rest, which is CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED for healing after a nasty pull. That's full health in seconds on a short CD. Spread the bear love! Also, pterrordaxes are underrated too because they're tanky AND come with a slowfall with zero cd. I cannot count how often that has helped me do things. It's an extra button, but a valuable button overall because it's just as good as a mage's Slowfall. Stone hounds are good too if you want to take risks, but the Eternal Guardian cooldown is too long to rely on it to make runs go a bit quicker, in my opinion, so I'd say they're just as good as other triggered defensive pets aside from bears and pterrordaxes.
We're all guilty of relying on clefthooves because they were without a doubt busted as hell, but they're not the only answer; they were just the biggest answer. Give other pets a try, take your time, and think two steps ahead. Unless your gear is horrible (like using level 49 heirlooms at 80, not that I've done that several times. Nope.), we'll all be fine in any content that isn't the ?? delve bosses.

Not to be that guy. But isn’t rest just a cosmetic trick ability that only gives it flavor? I 1000% agree that clefthooves are lackluster in appearances compared to other families, they look like a family that shouldn’t be exotic. Honestly every pet family should have a cosmetic non combat ability

I named my regular magma snail Hotsnot, my blue snail Coldsnot, so if this were to become a real pet he'd be normal old Snot. Gross but I love it!

Oh what the hell, I could've sworn it restored sleeping bear/rodents' health. Apparently it's just a dummy script with no effect other than a self-inflicted stun. Now I'm wondering why it looks like it heals faster.

I decided to make a Petopia guide for the Pre-Patch after all.
There are only 2 new tameable looks, but the guide allows me to also document for posterity:
- new matching minipets for hunter pets
- the new unused / untameable mana wyrm and celestial windsteeds.
