Devilsaur Appreciation Thread

(Renamed the thread as per requests ;D )

Well, as some of you know, I've had my big green King Krush, Valak, for some time now. I have learned a lot about him and wanted to share a few thoughts about this big monster with you all <3

First off--I spent aaages trying to find a PvP pet for me. I tried Wasps, Bats (80 focus special? really?), Ravagers, Hyenas, Tallstriders, Core Hounds, Chimaeras (still have mine!), Serpents, etc. I found myself, however, tending to pull out Valak for both world PvP and battlegrounds. I would say, "I'll bring the dinosaur" (his affectionate, accurate nickname) "for this AB, and then I'll try the hyena instead"... but it never really happened. I had a spirit beast, wolf for raiding, chimaera (excellent for kiting, but much lower damage) etc, but always wound up pulling my massive green monster of a pet out for PvP. And he's great. He does ridiculous damage, often more than me, especially when someone is playing the LoS game. I LOVE how many enemies focus him instead of me--and fail.

Next, there's the fact that I don't have a spare stable slot for a wolf. I love wolves--my favorite animal. But with a server-first Skoll taking the place of a wolf, and Lord Lakmaeran, Grunter and Haarka in my stables currently, I needed a raiding pet. I decided to bring Valak along for this--and of course, as I'm BM raiding, it went quite well. My dps tends to be highest with a wolf, but the difference is barely noticeable, and having what amounts to a massive green icon showing you where your pet is at all times is helpful to me.

Of course, when fishing, tooling around town or just hanging out in The Crossroads, massive green dinosaur = win. Also, having him out in different lighting is great. In the goo outside Undercity, the Hillsbrad fields and the forests of Feralas, he just looks amazing. He has some serious personality--the pet comes across as dangerous but dumbly eager, like a real and relentless predator. The sounds he makes are massive fun.

Oh, and then there's the fact that in arena, we look like this:

Image

And yeah, that's a recount in one corner (pasted in from the last arena match).

Anyway, I just find myself constantly saying now "God I love this dinosaur!" He really makes me smile :) That's all, I guess.

Aww, reading this I can totally relate to the Devilsaur love. :D <3

Most of the details you brought up apply to my feelings for Skorn as well. There's just something indescribably sentimental about those dinosaurs. There's a personality in Skorn that I've never felt with any other pet before. I definitely have strong attachments to other pets, but none have reached the complete bond that I made with my Devilsaur. =)
[...]the pet comes across as dangerous but dumbly eager, like a real and relentless predator
This! A perfect way to describe that characterization they seem to have. If we're getting serious about a fight or a battle I can almost sense the change of personality (listen to me talk about pixels like this xD). There's no alteration in his appearance, but Skorn's face seems to project both a content pleasure and a fierce predator at the same time. His piercing blue eyes just speak so much in terms of emotion and thought.

I just know Skorn is the sort of pet who will nuzzle Veph affectionately when they're alone, standing over her protectively, but he's all teeth and business when it comes down to it.

I love their casual idle animations with the long, slow tail swipes and rocking head. Happy as can be to stand at your side as a dutiful companion, but they make sure to roar every once in a while to remind everyone that no one's going to mess with you while they're around. ;)

Oh! And they look so proud and noble when they're walking at a slow speed. God I love that.

EDIT: Just because it's one of my favourite screenshots. ^^

That screenie is amazing. Your outfit, and that dino in that setting--they look AMAZING together :D He looks a lot more bad-ass than Krush, next to you anyway. I had one named Blue, but that was back when they were STOMPY-STOMPY, and I just didn't really click with it. Then again, I didn't have a load of black gear with sexy buckles to show off his darker colors <3 But actually I've kinda fallen in love now with all but the white devils. The dark markings around their eyes combined with the actual glowmap just looks so menacing, especially on Krush/Mosh models!

Hee, it was funny. For a while I entertained the notion of taming one of each colour of Devilsaur, mostly in Cataclysm with the larger stables. Since I love them so much I could be the crazy Devilsaur lady!

So to start things I went and got myself King Dred. Thrilling tame, lots of fun, it was great!...

But then I realized...he just wasn't Skorn. And the more I looked at him the more I came to understand. I could never have more than one Devilsaur. Skorn is absolutely my favourite no matter what colours or models come down the road. He can never be replaced, and I can't bond with any others.

Glad I realized all that before I went through any stressful Krush hunt though. Love that green dino, he's gorgeous...but the Devilsaur shaped place in my heart has already been filled. :D

I can sympathize with loving ones devilsaur! I love my black one, Casavir, too much to even think of taming any other color of them now, or releasing him. *shudder*

And to those who posted the screenshots in this thread..I love them. And cookies to anyone who can tell where I got the name from. (I was at a loss for names and almost posted here under name that pet when I thought of it)

Casavir, also known as Katalmach was a paladin of Tyr who participated in the Shadow War as a companion to the Kalach-Cha. ?
I'm liking my white dinosaur Chinja a lot, 2nd to King Krush she's the other 'rare'; I dread the thought of trying to get Krush again on a second character hence why I settled for Loque'nahak, when I'm of level of course.

So after reading this thread earlier today at work I just wanted to come home, log in to WoW, and spend time with Skorn. Then I became aware that my server has 24 hour maintenance.

*misses Skorn*

I feel the same way about Theseus. :) I wish I had a third spec for BM just to see him sometimes. >_<

I was having the time of my life running UD Strat with my big buddy Apollyon. I had done about 95 runs as Survival with Naphthali (which I feel bad saying, made me sick of seeing her  [but I still have her of course!]), and finally decided to see how things would go with Apollyon in tow. Well, oddly enough, we blew through enemies. My boy ripped those few wayward undead pats to shreds in a couple seconds. He stomped and chomped merrily as could be, tossing out a noble, triumphant roar here and there just to remind them all who he was. He's the KING of Sholazar, and don't you dare forget it!!! I loved it, I couldn't stop grinning, but it really made me miss him.

Oh, not to mention it was he who helped me lay the smackdown on Baron so hard the reins flew out of his hands. :D I guess even Baron Rivendare himself receives no quarter from a giant, red, angry devilsaur whose huntress has had enough of that foul place!

This would be my best screenshot of me and Blackout, taken right before the release of WotLK. First thing I did when that patch came out was go tame a Devilsaur...

Pretty scary lookin, aren't we?

I think he's being protective too...or he's being a chicken like my dog, who barks menacingly at you while hiding behind me...

Ooooh, a devilsaur thread. /must post

Reading all of these posts made me smile, and believe me, if you can make me smile before noon you have done something right!

I've had all the devils when thy first became available as a pet. I adored that they shook the ground when they walked...wish they still did that...but I never really liked any of the colors. Don't like white at all, and that red is too brown for me. The black is nice..but not really 'me'. When I saw the green skin, I for WotLK, I got so excited! I saw it first on a German website, lmao. I wonder if I still have that pic. I was so eager to get to the basin that I missed the quest in Dalaran and ran all the way there instead. Massive fail right there, let me tell you.

I copypasta'd the tame from wowhead.com, because I r sleepy.

"Tamed him on 12/24/08. Can't give exact location, as we pulled him quite a ways. He was patrolling from the south of the Glimmering Pillar up to Death's Hand Encampment at 11:45pm server on Frostmane.

HARDEST TAME EVER.

It took two priests, the mage who spotted him, and myself. He hits RE-TARD-ED-LY hard. I can't stress that enough. You really can't solo tame him unless you're phenomenally lucky. I started a tame with the mage and a priest, and nearly died, so we called a second priest. While we were waiting, a horde hunter and mage tried to tame him from us, and then an ally DK tried to kill him for achievement, so we were scrambling everywhere to hang onto him until the other priest came.

Even when the other priest got there, the DK wouldn't stop killing, Krush was down to 5% life, and we were all screaming! I managed to snag aggro and keep it for a full 15 seconds, BARELY. A fear hit us as I tamed him. Omg. This is a hunter's crown jewel. Loque'nahak is cool, and is a really rare spawn, but this...this is crazy. I posted a pic in screenshots.

Just gonna keep his name Krush."

I am gonna get a tattoo of him. My avatar is part of that. =3 I will never release him, and I thank god that when I got hacked, that they didn't either.

Ooooh, Devilsaurs! I do so love devilsaurs.

I ran out and got one on Silinrul before, when I read that BMing is best benefited in instance/raid settings by a devilsaur. I didn't want to get a wolf and I figured a big ol' dino'd be fine. I didn't expect to get attached, or for it to have much personality, since petEmote doesn't work with my devilsaur.

Oh my goodness. Oh my GOODNESS. Was I ever wrong!

Felyndril was only my second tame I think, at that point. That is, to keep a perma-stable slot. I didn't have Loque or Skoll or anything else yet, just Jia. So I tamed her up and went and did some Icecrown dalies, and...this dinosaur just INSTANTLY got herself a personality. She's like the baby of my tame team even if she DID come second. The way tosses her head delightedly when she comes running back to me after an enemy goes down, like, "LOOK LOOK LOOK MAMA! LOOKIT WHAT I DID!! :D " I can see her being excited about every new thing she meets or finds, like a puppy exploring the world for the first time. When we go into instances, I SWEAR she thinks she's playing, not fighting for our lives in an effort to battle evil and all that jazz. "Ma! Ma! Can I play with the bug-men again? They squish when you step on'em it feels SO COOL!" And on the rare instances when a boss does manage to take her down with a whirlwind or something, I figure she just got so startled that her playmates actually whacked her back that she sat down, threw a tantrum, and refused to play anymore. :P

It's amazing how much personality these collections of pixels and polygons can have XD Krush sounds like a worthwhile tame, but I could never, ever replace my (literal) white devilsaur baby now :P

Just want to say that I love this thread. It's amazing how all the devilsaurs act exactly the same, yet we all perceive them differently. One is a goofy youngster who bumbles through Azeroth, another is a mighty protector with an ego to match his size (but fiercely devoted). It's so neat! :D

I love devilsaurs. One of the best pets to run around and just have. xD

Not to mention they make -great- leveling pets.

You guys have inspired to me give dinos a chance. I was planning to tame Krush, but then I realized....I really only wanted to tame him to say I did. More of a 'challenge' than a real desire to have him as a pet.

So, I looked over the skins and decided I liked the bronze/orange/brown coloring the best and spent some time in the crater, hunting down the 'king of Un'Goro', Mosh. :D It wasn't really too hard a tame since Quin is 80, but it was fun!

Sadly, I forgot to get screenshots of the actual taming.

However, here is Quin and her new friend! Soon I shall ask for some help finding him the perfect name. :D
