I always wondered about doing this method on the oil wolves already out there in the world and if it works on the ghost paw runners that turn into spectral wolves from attacking. It's been pretty much determined that you cannot tame one of those and retain the ghost look without your computer crash...

Update on previous post by me: Once I was able to log back (loading screen was getting stuck at 100%) in I revived the wolf and it had the knife in its head. hey first time poster, long time lurker.
