Re: Compiling a database of pets that retain their names after taming

For the sake of humor, I actually did go through the whole list of name-retaining pets to see which ones had the longest names. There's 50 pets out of 778 with English names consisting of 20 or more characters in their names, including spaces and punctuation. I doubt this is worth a resource page or...

Re: Compiling a database of pets that retain their names after taming

I've updated my list above, found very cool things I think ^^, Lost Offspring of Gahz'ranka keeping its name is excellent for several reasons. The main one being that it's the longest name for a pet now! At 28 characters in its name, it beats the previous best at 26 with Siltstalker the Packmother....

Re: Encountering 'cannot be tamed' when should be

Raigonn is still bugged, as are all the other intended tameables. You can find someone who's got that quest phase unlocked and party sync with them however. It's how I got mine.

Re: Compiling a database of pets that retain their names after taming

Agreed; every animal SHOULD keep its NPC name when tamed, unique or not. Mammoths and elekks are totally different creatures that only vaguely resemble one another, and it's pretty generic to call lions, tigers, cheetahs, lynxes, and sexy Batman villains "cat". I have a friend who has some snakes in...

Re: Compiling a database of pets that retain their names after taming

Found another that keeps its name; Hardknuckle Matriarch from Sholazar Basin, spawned during the quest "Tormenting the Softknuckles". It wasn't listed on any of the name pages. It's pretty cruel though; you bully her children and then force her to serve you. One of the most evil tames! EDIT: "Raveno...

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread

It wasn't painful, but it was tedious. Once the exp started showing as 100 per harvest (I had rested, obviously!), I was thinking "Oh hell, now the real game begins." Thankfully, it's not THAT bad; 33 nodes per circuit at 100 exp a pop is 3300 exp. It usually took a few circuits anyway, but keeping ...

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread

You crazy, crazy person! Thank you for testing this :D P.S. What are your levelling tips for anyone who wants to try this? Oh god I can't write a good guide to save my life. While my brain sort of putz'd out after finally leaving, I can at least say these; - Pick up Mining and Herbalism, herb and m...

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread

Objective, final confirmation of my long and arduous task. Guardian of the Elders, as of prepatch on live servers, officially retains its name when tamed. EDIT: Taming it does not complete the quest "Worthy of Passing". You still need to kill it for that. Not like you'd normally be this level to try...

This mob is considered an elemental. Lemlia Luna on the secret finders discord went and checked it. It's currently listed as unknown, but ingame, it's an untameable.

From the secret finders discord, Lemlia Luna discovered that Blood Seeker (the bat that trolls people farming Aeonaxx) does not retain its name after the prepatch.

On an XYZ basis; X (left and right, facing forward) : Chimeras, not including rylaks Y (tall): Northrend Mammoths, WoD hydras (including guarm), and giraffes are the tallest by far. Z (length): Cloud Serpents by a mile. For the most screen space in all three, it's a tie between chimeras and WoD hydr...

Re: Compiling a database of pets that retain their names after taming

I didn't know they were checked recently. Before pre-patch, the two crabs I mentiond didn't keep their name. I was just going off info I remembered, is all. Just consider it re-confirmation that it's a thing! lol

Re: Zhao-Ren

Yeah, that note on wowhead is wrong. Pandaren were never able to tame without the book. That was just an assumption and people just believed it. You definitely need to learn the book on your account; it can be on any character and class.

Re: Zhao-Ren

I can tame him just fine on my neutral pandaren. Did you;
1) Learn the tome to tame cloud serpents on any character that is exalted with Order of the Cloud Serpents?
2) Have an empty pet slot with you?
3) Pull Zhao-Ren and attempt to tame as it flies towards you (circling the fireworks barrels)?

Re: Shadowlands Alpha/Beta Beast Thread

Last week, we got confirmation that the Massive Ik'thik Kunchong and the Ik'thik Colossus are tameable last week on beta and this week on live, but I don't see another fun thing posted. The Ik'thik Colossus has creepy whispering (or muffled screaming?) when it's idle. I compared it to Akkolon, anoth...

Re: Compiling a database of pets that retain their names after taming

I think it's safe to say that any quest-specific enemy that has the quest marker on its portrait keeps its name. As Oscar points out, all six are quest mobs, and they kept their names. Of course, checking unchecked mobs still helps, but those seem to be part of a pattern (that I like).

N'lyeth can be done like so; 1. find a group doing it where players of both factions are on the same realm (hardest part) 2. Opposing faction players get naked, let you kill them 3. You tag one, drop group, then kill a few (You won't phase back to your realm immediately, but you may need to be reinv...
