Update: 287 kills, and I've finally had a piece drop. 287. That's a good two and a half hours running around killing mobs, and it didn't work. I put the trap down, feigned death right behind it, camoed out of feign death, threw the meat, was not in combat, and the tame wouldn't go through regardles...
