Well, without regard towards levels, I would think that Drakuru Raptor would look great.l

I highly doubt Blizzard would eliminate pets that a hunter has tamed, even if the eliminate the skin. Bliuzzard is usually pretty good about not pissing off a whole lot of people who went to great lengths to aquire specific pets. Often enough, I see Hunters with pets that currently, no-one can tame.

One of my personal favorite things to do with my hunters is to get a pet from the opposite faction as close to level 10 as possible. The best to date, was my nigth Elf Anir.
