That's one of those ageless debates. Personally, I prefer claw. It gives more burst damage than bite. However, it uses all your pet's focus and so growl won't go off as soon as it is off cooldown. Darknez is right. It requires micromanaging your pet so it only casts lightning breath and then comes back since once it doesn't have enough focus for lightning breath it will go in to melee.

You have 3 stable slots and it's ideal to use each slot for a different type of pet. By that I mean a different job, like a pet for solo/farming, a pet for raiding/dungeons, and a pet for PVP.
