Core Hounds: PERCUSSION GONE

Unread post by Nachtwulf » Mon May 30, 2011 5:01 am

Okay so... over and over I've hunted down Magmadar because the stomping racket of most (read, almost all) core hounds is nightmarish and headache-inducing. Yes, I play with my sound on, no I don't want to turn it off completely just so I don't have to listen to an incessant BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM.

Anyway. I pulled my Chromaggus out tonight and...hey. He doesn't stomp. And rather than completely lacking a soundfile, he makes a similar little shuffly noise like my cat and worg do.

Huh, I say. And I go check a couple of others. I tested Gomegaz and the Kurken. Both of them still stomp loudly in the wild, but sure enough, as soon as they're tamed and shrink down, the stomp goes away. Gomez still makes that roaring fire noise (which I find kind of obnoxious) but it's still better than the orchestral tympani section following you around everywhere. So! Core hound lovers relax, and take out your earplugs.

I think thats a bug. It's the same one involving Devilsaurs lacking a roar when idle

Also on that note, I'm a core hound lover and I ENJOY the boom noises. It gives them life. They're huge creatures. They don't shuffle. So if for some freak chance it's not a bug, this ticks me off. :/ Bad enough they took away the happiness. Soon they're gonna be as lifeless as the mage pet. I don't want that. I pulled out my corehound and I'm pissed he's being treated like a lightfoot, much like the devilsaurs are.

GIVE ME BACK MAH STOMP! I've got a ticket in to see if this is a bug or not.

Actually no. I have a d'saur too and he roars at idle all the time. So if that was a bug it's been fixed.

I hate the stomp. HATE. IT. I've many times petitioned to get it removed like they did with the devilsaurs. I don't want a freakin' migraine, and I doubt my party members do either. If they fix it...well, it's back to Mags. I really hope they don't, and I'm taking the extant softer soundfile it has as a sign this is intended.

Just because it works for you doesn't mean others aren't having problems. I've had to help several hunters on my realm fix the Devilsaur bug so it's not really fixed. It's still around. Mine still gets silenced from time to time.

I love it. Honestly, not to sound offensive at all in the slightest as this is just my opinion, if you can't stand the corehound sound, then don't get one. You don't need to have one. If you like corehounds, then you should just accept them as they come. If you're getting migraines, you might be playing your wow sound a little too high cause I've never heard anyone complain about corehound stomps being loud. Fire sounds, yes. People have complained about those. But not the stomps.

I feel changing them like that screws up their anatomy. They're HEAVY. Heavier things make stomp noises when they walk. when you drop a bowling ball on the ground, it's not gonna make the same sound as a baseball. That's just my two cents.

And I suppose condor fans should just accept their butt-scooting because that's 'how they are'? Will they complain if this ever gets fixed? It kind of makes me wonder. :P

Meh. They de-stomped devilsaurs way back ....when, late BC? Early Wrath? When they fixed their run. Corehounds aren't any bigger mass-wise than devilsaurs (arguably, they're smaller now that they got that size tweak) and yet cores made tons of racket and devilsaurs don't. Sense, this does not make. And saying 'don't get one' doesn't make too much sense when they have a very useful skill that often comes in handy when actually doing something productive like instancing.

No, if they un-fix this, I'll just go back to Magmadar, who has never stomped, and even lacks the nearly zone-wide roaring thing that most cores (aside from Mags and Chromy) have. I've always wondered why they never fixed the roaring since I remember being able to hear a goldfarmerbot killing elementals on that hill in Borean Tundra all the way from the other side of Fizzcrank. I -think- some of that has been fixed, but they still don't have any distance scaling with their attack noises.

Butt Scooting and Stomping are two totally different things. Birds fly. Heavy beasts stomp. That's the natural order of things. Instead of taking away the unbroken stomp, they should've fixed an actual issue, aka the buttscooting birds.

I wasn't happy about the non-stomping devilsaurs either. That was one of the reasons I wanted one--cause they were huge and stomped around and went RAWR. Making them not stomp anymore didn't make sense at all and still doesn't. I get hunters all the time on Moon Guard wanting the devilsaur stomps back. All in all...there is no 'unfixing' since this fix in itself was an unfix. It was never broken to begin with. It was fine as it was.

As for the noises from a distance....yeah that was annoying. I hated being in Dalaran and hearing some persons corehound waaaaay down below in Crystalsong as if it were right next to me.

I don't miss it, nor do I miss the idiotic camera shaking when a devilsaur or core hound pet ran past the Stormwind bank back from beta. I didn't really mind the sounds (obviously I minded the camera shake and I'm glad that's long gone), but like any other sound, I'd almost prefer them to be there than not—you can mute sounds (like the worgen sniff) if you can't stand them but you can't re-add sounds when there's no longer a sound file connected to a specific action.

I'm curious about the devilsaur roar, though—was that an older bug, or only specific devilsaurs, or? I was taking shots for my pet challenge a few days ago and Krush still roared (and I loaded up wow just now to check and yup, he's still roaring), so I might have just missed the memo once upon a time, heh.

Yeah I'd be all for them to add in something to mute the sounds in the UI but....yanno....that would actually make sense and would be far too easy. XD I didn't like the screen shaking either but the roars and stomps never bothered me. They felt natural to those pets.

It was a pretty recent bug. I should check to see if Loktar and FinFangFoom got their roars back for good cause it would sometimes not do it and sometimes they'd be chatty.

Both my Krush and my Tyrant Devilsaur roar whenever they do the animation (at least as of tonight). I haven't seen any problems with them doing it muted.

I -have- noticed some other things not making noise that should, like opening the AH pane or using your hearthstone. These seem to have intermittent sound, but I can't seem to attach any kind of pattern of when it works and when it doesn't.

There IS a way to take out the sound yourself by making a blank soundfile.

I got rid of the cat's yawning because I hate it. Takes a bit of searching, but if you don't like the sound, you -can- get rid of it. If it's bad enough to cause migraines... then it shouldn't be too big of an annoyance to create a blank wav and replace stomping.

I think they fixed it some time ago, around the time when Cataclysm came out. By then I had almost gotten used to my core hounds stomping but when I realised it was gone I was so happy. I couldn't stand it but since I loved my core hound I used him anyway.

And the stomping didn't make any sense. I understand that giants make the sound but a pet core hound is so minimal in comparison that the stomping seemed ridiculous. And how come my tauren could ride around with a much bigger kodo without making any sound?

Hel, Kodos make sounds too but you gotta remember blizz took that stomping away(Kodos) because they're far more numerous than a corehound would be.

Yes yes, I know about the blank soundfile thing (I had to do it to my poor asthmatic worgen.) The reason I don't like doing it for core hounds is that unlike the cat yawn or worgen snorfling, the file is used by a LOT of mobs in game like storm giants and fel reavers, and XT and...well, the list goes on. And THOSE mobs I don't want to mute, especially since their stomp is an early warning system for not getting flattened.

While it is nice that they no longer do that... it is really weird.

No..just no

atleast as many hunter who disliked it, liked it...

i personally thought it was both annoying and amusing..
i'd be ok with this change if they give each skin one with and another npc without sound...that way it won't hurt anyone

but blizz who'll haf to spend 1/2 hour to reput some sound files in to some few npcs..

The sound annoyed me and was the main reason I rarely used my corehound. I'll be glad to see it go (even though I don't play anymore, lol).

I won't miss it. If devilsaurs and corehounds remained their pre-tame size or anywhere in the approximate vicinity, I could see the STOMPSTOMPSTOMPITYCRASHBOOM, but post-tame they just aren't all that big compared to the other "stompless" pets. :?

I won't miss it honestly. I am one of those weirdos who plays with sound on. I can see why someone would be upset, but it's one of the reasons I practically never use my corehound. Which is sad, I like Loot the MC corehound. :(
