Thank you so much for the info, Irime! Very much appreciate you coming out here to talk to us.
What do you think guys? Do we all go out and spam-tame them till we figure it out?

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
Intriguing....it'd be pretty neat to keep the oil buff, if we can figure out the exact correlation...
I wonder if anything in the GM's ticket gives a hint, either? Or was he just joking around?

If it works, try it with the fledglings, too, assuming they're tameable. Ghostly black crow ftw!

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
When someone does the quest, does it make the wolf despawn? Or does the debuff just disappear for awhile? I'm Horde, and we don't get the quest so I can't check, but perhaps it's related to the quest scripting.

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
Well, I tamed about 75 wolves before I got too bored.
Things I noticed:
The "oil coat" buff which gives them the black misty look persists in death
They have a second buff called "oily coat - reduces changes of being hit by 20%" which is a very short, maybe 3-5 second buff.
The "oily coat" buff comes about 15 seconds after you engage them. Then, it seems like about 20 seconds after that it pops again.
Things I tried:
I tried timing the tame to the "oily coat" buff, either starting the tame when it popped, ending the tame with it active, freezing and taming when it started, ending the tame on it's first, second, third pop...nothing.
Also tried standing in the oil pools, freezing the wolf in the oil pools, kiting the wolf into either different water pools or up on land...nothing.

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
Actually, I think I may have the trick. When they spawn--the birds, at least--they aren't oil-covered. The buff is applied later. Perhaps if you can time the tame to coincide with the oil-covering, a la Garwal?
Can anyone get a timer on how long it is from spawn-> oil buff?
That said--I'm willing to bet this buff, like the Garwal one, will disappear in arena.
Edit: omw to test it out. My curiosity has taken hold and I've abandoned Soriid (Tick) >.> If I manage this, I'm so naming it Void...

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
When you say "when the spawn" do you mean you waited for one to spawn like normal, or is this related to the quest someone mentioned that Alliance only?
Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
As much as I loved taming Garwal....Oh boy. Another tricky tame that involves exploiting server lag...
I'm not complaining, really. But if that's the trick, then we're going to lose that wolf fairly fast. After all, it's not really MEANT to be, just like the worgen. The others were fine, a mistake on Blizz's part. But on this one, we're tricking the server by using lag. I think that's how it was done, anyway.

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
Garwal was a worgen, though. They removed that for a "good" (>.>) reason. These, they may make untameable, but I very much doubt they'd remove them. As it's a buff, though, I could easily see them changing it so that it's removed on death.
RE Spawn: when they spawned in normally, the groups of fledgelings and hawks had some that were not oil-covered and one that was (I think the untameable, the hawk, was the oil-covered one). I am now killing wolves to see if they all spawn buffed or not.
Edit: No, the hatchlings spawn "clean" but the wolves spawn buffed. The fledglings change color exactly 30 seconds after spawn by looks. Also, the wolves who are 'cleansed' may respawn clean; waiting for an ally to do the quest so I can watch. Further edit: It doesn't look that way... Also, the fledglings don't seem to change to oil-covered if they're mid-tame, even if all their brethren have just done so. Instead, they'll do it a few seconds after they reset (out of combat, after your feign).
Yet another edit: I did find ONE oddball wolf. He spawns in the center pool (62.2, 29.2) and races across the pond before despawning. He does NOT have the buff. I have no idea what this is all about; have tamed him and am playing with it, but there's no buff after taming, either. When I've seen him despawn, it is without the Oil-Stained buff. If you aggro him, he doesn't despawn. *ponders*

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
Fascinating! What an awesome discovery, I never anticipated something like that to happen.
I'm sure with all of us aware of it now we'll stumble upon a method sooner or later.
It would be very cool if it could be done with the hawks as well.

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
I stood around and saw those Collector bots taking the oil from the animals around them, that's when they run off and despawn. It happens in a few of the pools.Acherontia wrote:Yet another edit: I did find ONE oddball wolf. He spawns in the center pool (62.2, 29.2) and races across the pond before despawning. Re: Oil-Stained Wolf help me
So wait, do we need a certain quest for this, or can we just go tame them/it? I have Loremaster of Northrend done, and im pretty interested in this guy. MIGHT abandon iBark (Barking wolf lol) if this is possible.
