The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Ah that would explain why the big rares keep attacking me and not staying on the pets. Good grief. ;P Why would they do this?
Would you all say a tenacity is better than a clefthoof now? Or is that still better?

I'm biased since Beast Mastery is currently hot garbage for any content other than showing off two pets at once, but Tenacity absolutely shows its value now. I mean, it's always been high value, but more health means more not-dying, and I've done a lot of not-dying since I've been using tenacity pets.

Elites being immune to Growl doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It does explain some aggro issues I've had. Still, I've encountered problems with the pet keeping aggro on groups of 2 or 3 regular mobs while questing and such. It just seems like there are issues with pet threat in general. It's got me to the point where playing a hunter just isn't fun.

I guess I can use my cool tenacity models that I have tamed now and in the past
Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Unfortunately the woes of BM are probably low on Blizzard's priority list. This expansion is 3 weeks in and still verrrrrrrrry buggy.Boven wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 11:33 am Elites being immune to Growl doesn't make a lot of sense to me. My worm and baby salamanders look like this now. I'm extremely sad. I've struggled with depression and recently lost my bunny and my dog IRL who I've had for half of my life. Blizz doing this.... makes the semicolon itch. I don't know why I think things will ever get better. Screw them and their ability to strip away any possible joy I might feel.
Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
As Kara mentioned, the worms and baby salamanthers are gone. I've said all I need to say on the approach Blizzard takes, really.

Yeah, that's a huge L on Blizzard's part. Yet again.

Man, this is heartbreaking. I got really attached to my goofy lookin girl while doing quests and such, but now this has taken the wind out of my sails.

I’m sad you lost your special babies, but blizzards gotta do what they do, I just hope the eel will be intended, and let us tame other colors, it’s our first step to taming aquatic creatures, they should at least add a bubble to them
Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I’m sorry they changed the pets for anyone who already had them. It seems random whether they decide to do that or not. For the worm, I might guess it was because it lacked normal motion, but not the salamander. It seems to be down to whim.
I’ll have to check the NPCs in the game, but I imagine they gave them new IDs and kept their old looks, and it was just the pets that changed?

This really isn't okay. I can kind of understand the salamanders because they are baby pets, but the worms?
Blizzard needs to take a hard-stance on this, they have been extremely inconsistent on this for years, and it's becoming increasingly more frustrating to take the time to find rare and special finds that just get nerfed into oblivion. I've played Hunter for 20 years. I've missed the Ooze pet which started my initial drive to really push to find these pets like this. Now we just randomly lose the worm pet because it doesn't have a proper running animation? I mean come on.
Becoming increasingly tired of this. It's becoming increasingly demotivating to even want to play Hunter anymore between all the nerfs to the numbers themselves to this too. Good old "fun detected" Blizzard is at it again I guess.

All unintended tames should be removed, then.

I’m sorry for those that have lost pets. I’ve shared my speculation recently as to why I think that Blizz does it to some and not to others. That said, there shouldn’t be calls for other people to lose their pets just because of this, and it getting beyond frustrated over this is not going to change things. Blizz isn’t going to reverse it or make baby pets tamable. All it does it just make a sad situation worse for the individual getting worked-up over it.

It's why I dread leaking some pet locations because I know blizz wants to ruin everyone else's fun. They crapped on warlocks, because of their "silhouette" excuse which is just a lie, I refuse to accept it as being a real thing when I can dress ass a wizard on every single class I have.
Is the red eel still good?
These pets will probably go in the trash then since I don't need another salamander. I hope people who have past cool pets get to keep them, and I hope the people who make this change's Hobby meets a mainstream audience, and their favourite game goes live service.
I'm going back to my crocodile for the... 14th year.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I checked my red eel and sea slug last night and both were unchanged. Not sure about the wild mobs or if they're gonna be the same once realms are back up. It's odd that the sea slug didn't get altered since it's the size of a mini pet and would be harder to see in pvp.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I'm very sad about our cool worm buddies. I feared it was inevitable they'd be fixed because of how unintended their movement was on the ground, but the longer they stayed the more hopeful I felt, and this could be personal bias speaking but I don't even think they looked terrible, maybe something like a rumbling earthquake at their base would have been a way to mask the lower body thing and make it look like they were just burrowing around? I just loved their colour and model shape.
This is definitely a frustrating issue to tackle in regards to the hunter community and pets in general. Secret tames are fun! There's no denying the thrill of finding something unique (especially if it's not an outright exploit, the Cataclysm fire pet comes to mind as that was a pet that was completely untargetable but obeyed commands).
And yet it brings up more layered issues - mistakes are going to happen, I'm sure the devs can't just guarantee there will never be an error tame in the future because they're only human and some things slip through the cracks. Some might be relatively harmless, but others could be something more controversial that requires hotfixing.
How do we find a middle ground here realistically? We want to keep cool tames, if something fits well enough within the fantasy of a hunter pet or a beast it seems harmless enough to let people keep these things. The baby pets I've always thought were pretty harmless myself even if they don't necessarily appeal to me personally.
But also how do we address this growing rift in the community? It's "punishing" to share secret tames because the more people that obtain them, the more they stick out and will probably force a dev's hand to fix, but on the other hand it feels really bad to miss out on something because there was no communication.
I genuinely don't have an answer to this because I see both sides and know there's not a blanket answer that will fix everything. The inconsistency is probably the hardest thing for people to grapple with. Some pets have been grandfathered in the past, while others have been removed while being under similar circumstances.
I doubt there's one person in charge of these decisions, WoW is a big game with a lot of devs working on it, this is just me speaking out loud because I can see the frustration and feel some of it myself.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I think for the worm. It's not designed to be a pet, I get that. And asking them to add some good movement animations for it may be a bit much.
But I genuinely don't see the harm in letting us keep things that are already there. There's no harm in a giant baby lizard if we already have the lizards.
There's no harm in having silly looking pets if the model exists and it can move around properly. Like the baby unicorn etc. Being goofy is hardly an excuse we did a raid night where everybody was dressed as magical girls and murlocks. Hell i'd go back and let people tame the slime again, re-add glitch pets.
I'm the kind of guy who says loosen the restrictions and just go ham on taming anything that's a beast with basic animations, since you can reasonably fit every single beast in warcraft into one of the preset categories at this point. Just add a new one for fish and we're golden.
Pet's should have a spec toggle by now, a talent tree like the hero one. Or the more extreme option is to just remove the specialities all together and bake the lust/hp/crit Into the hunter tree for having a pet out.
Because as it stands now, tank pets have the same armour and damage as the ferocity pets. The only major difference in them is the spec buff, and if you want a slow/mortal or pet defensive which again could be put into a tree. It's not like the old pets where you could have a pet thunderstomp, now pets for lack of a better term have become fuzzy stat sticks. Which genuinely makes me sad because I love pet classes.
Could slap this on a hunter pet and call it a day. Bottom talent is "Exotic pets" or maybe it's the "apex predator's claw" ring effect or something. Give a player a point every 10 levels. 4th row is, mortal, slow, defensive. Excuse my ms paint scribble.
As mentioned it does feel like if you are punished for finding something fun, or trying to help fellow hunters collect cool things. It feels strange even slapping the really old pink worm model as a replacement instead of something a bit more thematic for the area. It's not even one of those new crawly worms. I'm fully expecting the eel to be replaced with a snake or something now, so I'm not going to get to attached to it.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I completely agree that pets should be able to change specs, and that they need to be buffed so that they can actually survive and hold aggro.
I don't think that Blizz is ever going to change their mind in regard to glitch pets, and most likely are not going to change their course in how they handle it. As Veph said, they were a mistake made by devs to begin with. Anytime one of these pets is tamable, you have to go in with the expectation that it will be removed and that there is not a reason to get attached to it. And if it is removed, there is no point really on getting angry about it.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I 100% disagree with this statement, and you do not get to tell people they shouldn't be angry. People are allowed to be angry. Why are some unintended tames ok, and others not? I get why the "fire" pet was removed, but most of the unintended tames do not offer a DPS increase.
I have a grub on one of my hunters. I have the slime on another hunter. Why do I get to keep these, but not the baby salamanther, the worm, or the baby Vorquin? People got to keep their baby mammoths and their murkfur pup. The lack of consistency is what's making _me_ angry.
