I just won't want to post on the forums because both my first name and last name are pretty uncommon, and put together I'm easily the first few results on a google search. I'm easy to find with my name, so that alone would make me hesitant enough not to post.

Holy S@#$   .... I have never googled my name before, and just tied now... I am every one of the 1st 10 search results. Facebook being the biggest criminal and I dont even use it.. and listing my name and my freinds names next to it! Now I must admit my name is pretty unquie, never meet another with my name, but that just really frightens me. :|

Mispelled Dutch names are unusual too. I'm one of three, and only two have my surname, according to the first page of google results.

I also exist on DeviantArt.

I sometimes google my old pogermanz forum handle.

There is much lulz and paranoia to be had for me on those days when I get that bored.

So yeah I can understand what Blizzard is trying to do, BUT THEY ARE DOING IT THE WRONG WAY.

From Drysc-- "All posts in the future on the new forum systems will be an opt-in choice and ample warning will be given that you're posting with your real first and last name. "

well, i guess that is better than nothing?

They never actually said they would close the classic forums. I wonder if you would still be able to post in there ? Still not crazy about your real name being on display for the entire world to see. They think they have a hacking problem now.. It will only get worse. There making it easier for the hackers. It should be private so you can't view anything unless you logg in.

In the german forums, they make it absolutely clear that they will not run two different forum systems.

The choice is to post with RealID or not post at all.

Then there precious forums will be dead. You would think they would get the hint out of the countless thousands that screamed at them saying NO!. I'm getting the impression they don't care what we think as there going to do it anyway.

as most of yall probably know, im not much for forum posting. I come in when i feel i got something worthwhile to offer....more or less.

But even in my apathetic "LOLFORUMS" attitude, i see this as a horrid idea. Do you need your authenticator (if you have one) to log into the forums? If so, hats off to a decent business move.

If not, /shrug. I have some decent faith in Blizz. They have gone this long being an amazing company. I seriously doubt they would implement something this insane without having a really good plan for the future.

Saw someone else post this and loled:

"The new RealID marketing slogan: It's so optional, it's mandadory."

Which they actually got banned for saying on the official forums. -_-

You know, there was a time I was studying to certify to teach. One class dealt with teaching kids how to deal with technology. One of the cardinal rules was that they should NEVER use their real names. This flies in the face of internet safety. I even hesitate to use my first name, which I think only one of you guys and a couple of my Eldre'thalas guildies knows.

That action makes them look even worse. There is no reason to ban someone over that. Power Trip much ? It's also very Ironic that it's ok for them have your real name exposed but your not allowed to use other players names on the forum.

I'm honestly really surprised that they seem to just be doing this even though 99% of people (yes, I pulled that number out of my patootey) are up in arms over it. Why are they just ignoring our pleas to stop this craziness? IMPLEMENT USERNAMES!!! That's solve a lot of the problem (well, maybe a little bit anyway) without forcing your forum-posters to cough up their RL identities. Their whole attitude is just asinine and.....really...er, flabbergasting? (can't think of the word I want).

This is pretty funny.
"Do You Like WoW, but HATE Real ID? "If so, cancel your subscription, but keep playing anyways.

If you want to make a statement to Blizzard and actually be heard, you have to talk with your wallet, not some internet forum. Too bad Blizzard doesn't have a drop down labeled "Real ID" under reasons for canceling a subscription, so I picked Poor Support > Representatives didn't seem to care about me or my problems.

Is this an idle threat? Probably as I'll probably resubscribe when the time runs out. Though hey, I'm not subscribed right now, and as far as Blizzard as a company is concerned that's all that matters. So if you want to make a statement about how much you dislike Real ID, cancel your account. Just resubscribe a month later or whenever your subscription runs out; or don't. Either way it's the same effect.

Really people are taking an hour, or hours out of their life to complain on a forum. It takes less than that to unsubscribe and resubscribe to WoW. What are the odds people are going to read your comment on the forums here? The main thread about it is 800+ pages long, and that's just for WoW... America, so no, you're probably not going to be heard. You want to make an impression, do so with your wallet.

Even if you have no intention of quitting WoW, it doesn't take much to cancel your subscription, and then resubscribe later.

What's going to scare Blizzard more? A 10,000 page thread, or 100,000 canceled subscriptions?
