I had the basic brown cat model:
Image

So I'll start by saying that I'm usually pretty biased against this cat model. I dislike that their faces look like they're squished or something; it's usually enough to keep me from taming one of these models and keeping one. This color is another thing that usually makes me go 'blah.' This pet is definitely something I wouldn't have tamed normally, so hurray for this challenge.

I ended up being kind of surprised by this cat as soon as I tamed her. When prowl turned on by default I thought she had disappeared completely! Then I saw her upon closer inspection playing tricks on her new mistress and blending into her home environment of Northern Barrens.
Image

As you can see, I named her Sandy as I thought it suitable. I decided that a good test for her would be questing as I haven't discovered any Cataclysm dungeon entrances with Venjin, and I wasn't in the mood to PvP with an under-leveled pet at the bottom of the bracket.

More and more I got surprised that I actually kind of like the skin and that it has its own sort of beauty to it, despite not being colorful or flashy. I'm not too sure that she matches Venjin so well, but Venjin will keep her around until 85 when she'll begin her hunt for Sambas and Karoma. Perhaps Sandy will stick around as a mate for Sambas.

Blargghh. I'm just going to have to step out, I'm afraid, for now. I've had another stroke of luck with rare pets, and I won't be needing another tenacity pet for a while. >.>

No, wait, maybe... I have another hunter who's only level 48, but she doesn't have a full stable. Could I get a roll for her, instead? Sorry about that...

Level 48
Exotics? Can't, yet.
Restrictions? Just no exotics. I'll camp anything!

I had this pet assigned to me: Image

So my first reaction to the pet I was getting was, "Srsly? SRSLY? What is it with me, my arachnophobia, and my crappy luck with spiders?" Maybe I should have mentioned that I have a legitimate fear of them, both ingame and irl.

BUT OH WELL. I was given my orders, and I'm not the type to back out, so I'll at least TRY to give it a shot. I'll still use the summary format for it that was used in the original thread.

Headed out to tame one of these guys in the Blasted lands. On my way, since the Winter Veil stuff has begun, I put on the gnome costume thinger and que'd up for a pvp battle. Found one of these spiders and began the tame.

I was actually quite surprised by this pet! I expected to ditch it within five minutes, because I CANNOT STAND SPIDERS. Even leveling my undead hunter with a black widow for the first 10 levels was just not easy for me at all. However I haven't dumped Legs yet. I think this is largely due to the immediate pvp pop and the help of Winter Veil; I think I really would have dumped him immediately otherwise.

Appearance-wise I still do have some trouble with him. If my camera is zoomed out, far away from my character, I don't have much of a problem with him. If I'm zoomed in close however, or my camera is above my char so I can see Legs' legs all over the place and twitchy....now that is not so fun. He gives me the willies then. I will say though that design-wise this is probably my favorite spider, I thought the bone model looked pretty cool even if it makes me shudder every ten seconds.

The one thing that did get on my nerves after a while was the noise. He makes this kinda chittering, squeaky noise when he idles or walks, which I presume is all his legs or something, but it got a little aggravating after a while.

Food is easy. Diet of meat, piece of cake.

Do a battleground
JUST as I finished naming him, feeding him to make him happier, and setting his talents, my pvp que popped. I figure, 'well, why not take him along? Spiders are supposed to be good for pvp. So I take him along. I was actually pleasantly surprised; I'm pretty terrible at pvp, but he saved my life a few times with that nice root of his. I decided to keep him around for the remainder of the "With a Little Helper from My Friends" achiev as a result, since anything that makes it easier is good for me...

Check the pet out in different lightings
Not much of a change. He gave me the willies again squinting at him to study this, but he was pretty much the same drab brown wherever I went. His feet are tipped sorta red, that's the only real difference. Against bright white (like snow) he looked more black-and-red, but that's about it.

Check out swimming and possibly levitate animations (if any)
I checked out his swim by running down to the pond near Stormwind. This is actually kinda hilarious....his legs get all droopy and he looks sorta squiddy.

I didn't try to tank anything with him, level it, or do a heroic, since I was mostly doing holiday stuff in lowbie areas today, but beyond that...

Get a screenshot of you and your oddly fitting or entirely mismatching pet!
Image

For now, I've got him in my lineup to help me finish the whole PVP world event. After that...who knows? I might not let him go right away, but he'll probably be the first pet to abandon if I run out of stable slots.

Brown Condor - Carrion Bird (Took me alot of rerolls to find a pet that corresponds to your level!:P Enjoy)
Ok, so Kesler set out to Loch Modan to catch himself a brown condor, an incredibly common carrion bird found snacking on the thresher corpses scattered around the dried up lock. However, during his research on the area he discovered that the area was ripe with rare beasts and so before heading for his target he decided to scout around a bit to see what else he could find. First stop was near the excavation site to see if he could find the Condor Lord, an albino version of the brown condor. Nothing. So onto the area just outside of the ogre encampment to hunt down Ashtail, the grey fox. Again, nothing. Then onto the loch itself to see if the rare spiky crocolisk was anywhere to be seen. It wasn't. Ah well, onto the brown con -- wait! What's that? A rare he wasn't even aware of? He seems he'd stumbled upon Nix the wasp.

Image

With that one in the bag, figuritivly speaking, it was on to the brown condor itself.

Image

So his thoughts on the beast? Kinda meh to be honest. He took it through Gnomregon but the two just didn't click. It has a nice look to it but it's not about to replace his raptor or his serpent. I'll roll the random pet dice again once he's levelled up some.

That spider actually really seems to suit your character, VelkynKarma. XD

I still haven't had the chance to tame my random owl but I'll be popping over there tonight to grab one - hopefully a report shall follow soon.

Thank you very much!

Kormai's Taming Story:
Flew down to Tanaris to find one of the serpents...I'd never had a serpent before since I have a raptor on both hunters for the buff. Didn't think I was gonna kept this one but I'd try it. Found one and was surprised by the really bright pink/red colour. (see Kormai2 and Kormai3)

I decided to take this pet on a little test trip...got some archaeology fragments and saved Metzen! (see Kormai4 and Kormai5)

Inititally I wasn't planning on keeping this pet and I'm not going to keep it on Kormai. I have a raptor that provides the same buff which already has a cool name (I have a big thing for the themes of my pets names and their colours)...BUT I think I will replace my raptor on Kari with one of the various blue serpents (started my search for those after I tamed the beetle on Kari but got DCed again and again). I like how it's special ability is ranged so that makes it a bit more interesting.

Kari's Taming Story:
Less interesting but again flew down to Tanaris and had to visit both silithid spots to find the right ones. I was a bit "meh" over the colour but i found one and tamed! (see Kari1 and Kari2) I think I will replace my boring turtle with a beetle but I kinda like the Scarabs from the Obelisk of the Stars phased area (haven't been to Uldum on this toon yet). They have a nicer colour scheme I think...but I keep this one until I get there.

The red serpents look much better in the dark. Tried taming one on beta because I thought they looked cool on the website and found that their extreme brightness during the daylight hours was too much on my eyes.

Haha!! I don't blame you! It is really bright.

Also after looking at my list of pets and names between the two hunters (I have a colour coded list of all the types of pets, their names on each of my toons, and their abilities) I realized I like Kari's green spiney raptor named Mara (get it....Mara Jade?) more than my horde one, so I think I may keep the serpent on Kormai after all!

So my second random pet challenge was to tame and test the beautiful purple and red coloured owl. I have always been very partial to owls as pets, and used to have one years ago on a Tauren hunter (who I've long-since forgotten) back when the only way to get a low-level owl on Horde was to made the run to Teldrassil. I gave up on them when they were changed to "birds of prey" and given the "Snatch" PVP skill which I really felt was useless for PVE which is what I primarily play.

Image

So, I'd been planning for quite some time to go tame the lovely Gezzarak, and grabbing one of these owls on the way seemed like an awesome idea. I chose an owl and in a few seconds she was mine (lol taming the owl was considerably easier than taming Gezzarak XD But I digress!). She's unnamed at the moment but I'm tentatively calling her "Cherry" so until I think of a nicer name, that will do.

On first glance Cherry was great, screenshots really don't do these owls justice for their colour is amazing. I've previously had the red and gold owl, and I have to say, while I genuinely thought the red and gold would appear nicer ingame, this new owl has changed my mind. The red and purple combo appears much more striking. If you're like me and prefer quieter pets to louder ones, I would also give the owl a good tick in that box; they have a quiet coo/screech which hasn't yet begun to bother me, and actually bothers me a lot less than kitty yawn/slobber haha.

Image

Cherry's "Snatch" move I find is very OP and awesome on human/armed mobs, also in dungeons... as it seriously reduces the damage taken which can be a lifesaver at the moment what with everyone being undergeared in heroics! A bit of a long cooldown though which is bothersome. For general grinding and stuff she was fine, not the best but certainly a viable option if you really like the pet. I was using her in Marksman when she was level 82 after tame and she had a few aggro issues, but nothing I wouldn't expect from your average pet of that level.

My biggest annoyance with her (which really isn't too big at all) is the cooldown on Dive. I have one point in her talent tree for it but any more and I'd have to sacrifice some DPS. But yeah, whatever. XD She also unfortunately does not do the Trick skill... I have yet to tame a bird who will, lol.

She's already turned a few heads in Stormwind just as I was swapping pets in and out of my stable, which I thought was really cool for a mob that is a) easily obtainable and b) an older model.

Image
(just a size comparison if people are interested)

In all I love little Cherry, way more connection with her than I felt with my previous owls! I don't know if I have the space for her in my stable on my main, but worst case scenario my main, Whocat, will be passing her on to an alt hunter (Trophy or Tezzra, whoever levels highest first) on trust.

Note: I'm not too keen to go and do too much with owly 'cause I'm still camping for Madexx - but I love doing these! :D Once I get Madexx my pet camping will hopefully be over so I'll be back then to do another hehe.

I already have my lovely Blueskies, so when this random came up, I didn't have to go and get another one. Almost a pity; this is an extremely challenging tame to solo. Deliciously so! Someone here suggested a technique to solo it (I can't remember who; forgive my memory!) and it worked like a charm: get a core hound, wait for the patting mob to just *barely* pass by, throw a frost trap (and in my case, a snake trap to hopefully keep them distracted), then start taming. My lovely Blueskies took me several tries before I managed to do it. Tanking armor helps a lot here, as having hihg HP and/or armor is necessary to survive the onslaught of NPCs. If you're patient, you may want to wait for a higher level.

Image

Back when these *first* came out, the lovely blue and green combination had me absolutely drooling over them. They, like the Arakkora Protector, are one I have been checking religiously with new patches. So anything I can say about how they look would be biased. They're gorgeous. It's simple as that. Plus, their sounds are quite nice. A sort of whooshing, gurgly growl that makes me almost think of purring. I loved it when I got my first dragonhawk, and I love it with this one. Even the way they move is gorgeous, as they drift through the air lazily and smoothly. Just beautiful. Beautiful, beautiful.... well, just look for yourself:

Image

I actually hadn't noticed how much lavender there is there as well, until I got in nice and close and took this shot. Yep. Absolutely gorgeous!

One thing about the special ability of the dragonhawk is that, though it looks like a small cone of fire, it has a remarkably long range. Basically, your pet can shoot further than you can! This makes them quite good for making ranged pulls. In addition, if you are a hunter with a high magic damage (I'm looking at you here, Survival), then this pet will be great to keep as a constant companion. For me, I love having it around for 5-mans, just in case we aren't lucky enough to get a dutiful Boomkin.

All in all, I released two windserpents for the priveledge of keeping this blue beauty originally. I can say that I might be speaking with a biased state of mind here, but I'm completely in love with her and will continue to be completely in love with her!
Come see Kurasu's stables!
