Lab mice testing ethics and questionable practical applications aside, this thing is incredibly fluffy and cute. Seeing as how we got proper rats as pets with patch 11.1, having a new and extremely fluffy rodent pet would not be out of the question. Admit it, you want to hold this adorably furry critter. It beckons you, even if you have horrible animal allergies like I do. I'd risk it all just to pet one of these little fellas. A woolly mouse would be a wonderful new pet option, or at the very least a battle pet.

Making the thornwolves with the Kul Tiran druid models tamable, so we don't have to wait two expansions for the Thornspeaker Knives to be fixed.

I was able to tame Liliuna fairly recently; are the bear and stag versions broken?

Re: Suggestions for our Lurker.. ;)
Here’s models that should get updated for new tameable beasts
Classic crested basilisks - give them a gnarlier look while keeping the crystalline aesthetic, make the color of fringes separate from the body because I can see the original fringe color seeping from the other colors, make their heads and tails larger, and use the new basilisk skeleton
Outland basilisks - mostly the same as above, but keep the head short and gnarly, and give them sharper teeth
Undead hawks - they need a faithful update that makes them look like current wow and emphasize more undead features, similar to the updated boar.
Stormcrows - they need a model update similar to their carrion bird cousins, but should keep a Druidic look to it
Old parrots and owls - while we have newer models, they are not faithful to these colorful originals, they should be updated to modern wow, I say keep the skeleton, makes them gnarlier
Two headed vultures - their one headed cousins got a decent update, so they could use one too.
Condors - no need of explaining, despite being a wrath model, they need an uprez, eagles were added in wrath and got updated, so should they
Felboars - I know the draenor boars are basically their alternate universe cousins, but they don’t have those gnarly giant spines and the boar running animation, plus the updated version could use a glow effect
Camels - we could use a model similar to the dunetrekker mount, the cataclysm camels look like a koala
Classic cats - they could use an updated model that keeps their aesthetic and colors which made them stand out from each other. They should use the Druid cat form skeleton
Saber Cats - we got updated nightsaber models but they are not the same in any way, keep the cool colors, make their shoulders large and keep their fangs extra long. They should use the Druid cat form skeleton
Classic Lions - we got the newer model in cataclysm, which was the first step to a newer wow, but they should be less grand and keep their gnarly looks, keep the saber fangs and make their face slightly longer to be like a lion’s, they should use the Druid cat form skeletons
Hunched cats - possibly could use a model update, but the classic model’s pixels give it a pristine fake figurine look, this one’s a maybe
Zhevras - they need love as they are the only low res courser model, they could use a new horn, large hooves and a new gnarly mane
Classic Crocolisks - they need a model update similar in color and aesthetic, of course they should ditch the old crocolisk skeleton and use the new basilisk skeleton
Dragonhawks - the only creature that never had a new model or update since tbc, gotta give them that good apparent mix of dragon and hawk, give them nostrils, make the beak sharper, and make the wings have membranes with feathers
Cataclysm foxes - they look so weird and possessed, I once thought they were a vanilla model, they could make them act and move like real foxes, they should use the lupine skeleton
Runed darkhounds - their normal cousins got updated, they could use an update too, they should look similar to the other darkhounds, but make them stand out a little bit more, give them a slightly deathly mana crazed look
Mastiffs - they look great for a cataclysm model, but we could use just a resolution update, and more short hair breeds or ear variants to accompany it, give them a new animation rig
Classic Hydras - we need new hydras, more like classic ones, where they are mostly aquatic and have two legs.
Classic elekks - I love my pink Elekk, they deserve an up res, but I would be suspicious they’d make it less vibrant like the pink riverbeasts. Give them a rough skin texture and smoother tusks, and change those human eyes to something more akin to an actual elephant
Cataclysm monkeys - they could use a new updated model, get rid of that god awful skeleton and running animation and give it grong’s skeleton with a tail
Classic raptors - we could use new raptors, I know we got updated raptors in draenor, but we could use raptors that don’t have spiky teeth pointing outwards, rather embedded inside like vanilla raptors and they could have different variants from plain to different kinds of jewelry while sticking to the vibrant color schemes.
Spiny raptors - they deserve an uprez, make their armored parts look more detailed and armored, make the horns slightly pronounced and better shaped eyes, make the teeth more jagged and keep the color schemes
Outland ravagers - they are probably one of the best looking burning crusade tameables, but they could just use a higher resolution model, make the spines and legs smoother, and give them teeth different from their spine color
Dire Outland ravagers - they deserve a model that looks more original to them rather than giving the normal model extra spikes, but mostly same as above
Classic Scorpids - we need a higher resolution version of these beautiful yet ugly arachnids, giant claws, weird teeth, they could use an updated model with a smoother looking stinger, jagged looking claws, and give it actual sharp teeth
Classic snakes - while I like colorful serpents, these are too pixelated, probably because they were only meant to be critters, they need a higher resolution model, keep the cool colors, and give it head shape, and rattle tail varieties similar to bfa wind serpents, and give them an actual forked tongue, since classic snakes have gray pixels
Classic Serpents - they look aggressive and deadly, they could take it up a notch, make it higher resolution, this model has potential to be the coolest if it’s a high res serpent
Classic Stags and reindeer - we need a higher resolution version of those stags, we need elk and reindeer that are more akin to real life and elegant, similar to elderhorns as opposed to a Druid form
Gazelles - no big explanation needed, give them better horns
Giraffes - they deserve a entirely new skeleton and a less jagged look, make their nose longer and less like a bird
Tbc talbuk - just an higher resolution, keep the long legs and flowing mane
Classic turtles - they could use a higher resolution update, give them rings in their shells and give them gnarlier tusks
Old silithid models - give them the same faithful look, but higher quality, maybe give them colors matching the beetles, the beetles don’t match the silithids right now
Old wasps - no long explanation, just higher resolution
Outland wind serpents - they could use a new frightening appearance faithful to the old model, for wing combinations, they can figure out how to have a smooth color transition from wing to body color
Skeleton wind serpents - make them higher resolution, ditch the golden bands to make them more neutral, some npcs are related to arakkoa yet use troll bands, they should have a working mouth
Classic wolves - they are ok in my opinion, but are in a big need of an update, they have very small heads on a proportionate sized body, they could use color blends similar to real life wolves and a more proportionate head, and should use the lupine skeleton
Classic Worgs - they need a look more akin to the worg in the Warcraft movie, very gnarly, and also give them colors similar to real life wolves, they should use the lupine skeleton as well
Saber Worgs - one of the weirdest models yet praised as a spirit beast, they could only use a higher resolution update, and give them lupine animations
Classic worms - an already good model, but make it higher resolution
Fanged grubs - not a currently tameable model, but could use a nice treatment like the normal grubs, give them more teeth behind these fangs and give them the basilisk skeleton
I suggested the lupine skeleton a lot since those animations look and feel more like an actual animal, a lot of old rigs and animations can be ditched for better ones, same for the Druid cat run animation

Re: Suggestions for our Lurker.. ;)
First, let's talk Beast Lore. My friend's first complaint was that he cast Beast Lore on Rek'tor, a raptor in Stormwind City that uses the black outland raptor model, and found that it said that it was not tameable. This led him to believe that the model itself was not tameable. When he told me this, I pointed him to Petopia so that he could see where that model was available, and he immediately complained about the information from Beast Lore being inaccurate. The NPC, Rek'tor, has the subtitle of <Colin O'Rourke's Pet>. "If it's not a tameable beast, then why is it a pet?" he asked me. Because I had no logical answer, I simply said "That's just how it is", which he didn't particularly like. He now uses Petopia to go looking for things, but he's still rather annoyed that Beast Lore "lies". Seeing this perspective from a player who has never truly tried playing Hunter until just recently, it made me think "Maybe this should be changed to make more sense?", and that led me to suggest that Beast Lore be reworked.
The rework would be as follows;
- Beast Lore is now a passive spell, rather than needing to be cast on every individual.
- Beast Lore can be toggled on and off under the Hunter's tracking menu.
- NPCs that use a tameable model will be flagged "Tameable", even if they are friendly or already controlled by another NPC.
- Beast Lore's tooltip will now show new text for tameable beasts, such as "This species can be tamed", or something along those lines to imply that the species can be tamed.
This way, if a new hunter wanders around and sees a cool beast that an NPC is using, and they want to have their own version of that NPC, then they can immediately know "I can tame that if I find my own? Hooray!". This would greatly improve the flavor of the game, while also providing an incredible quality of life change for newer players who just want instant information, rather than having to go to a website to see if something can be tamed or not. Not that I want Petopia's traffic to drop, mind you, but being able to instantly get reliable information on the spot without third-party tools? You can't complain there!
Next up is name retention. Earlier, I mentioned that my friend said that pets "lose their identity". When I asked what he meant, he responded "You don't call your tabby 'cat', do you?", in reference to my own family pet in real life (love him, even though I am violently allergic to cat hair). My friend works in animal care, and when he talks about specific animals, he will state their actual names along with any given name, such as "Davey, the Devon Rex" in reference to a cat he helps care for that an elderly woman often brings in. He is a walking encyclopedia of animal species, and he can just straight up tell you what animal you have right away. He's proud of his knowledge, because his clients always come back to him BECAUSE he's knowledgeable. He's not knowledgeable because he wants recognition however; he just loves caring for animals, and that's worthy of respect. When he started taming beasts, he was annoyed how his pets were just randomly renamed to "Cat", "Bird of Prey", and so on. He actively says the names of the NPCs he tamed, such as his (current) favorite, a tan striped gazelle called "Rikkilea Strider". It kind of makes me laugh that he remembers the names of the NPCs he tamed, but I think he's keeping notes to remember which is which, which makes it funnier (not in a mocking way, mind you). He was then introduced to an NPC that actually kept its name when tamed, Coldbite Matriarch. While it's not his favorite, he still loves that this one kept its name.
To address this, I suggest the following;
- When Tame Beast completes its cast, the NPC's original name is retained rather than defaulting to the pet family.
Doing this would keep an NPC's identity, allowing you to say "yeah, I tamed *this* specific beast". It's no secret that people loved when rares started retaining their names in Battle for Azeroth, and that happiness only grew when "important" NPCs began keeping their names such as quest NPCs. Of course, this was not an all-encompassing feature, and there are still a tremendous amount of NPCs who SHOULD be eligible for this, yet have gone ignored. Battle pets, mounts, and even transmogrification options already work this way, so it's high time that every tamed beast just keeps its name.
Finally, let's talk babies. I know this is a controversial and touchy subject, considering the vicious discussions and opposing sides that sometimes crop up, however this is included for the sake of completion. My friend did raise this note to me when he saw various NPCs that were babies of larger adult species. Using the Coldbite Matriarch above, he noted that the babies were NOT flagged as tameable, despite the mother being tameable. I told him that, in general and aside from a few that slip through the cracks, baby beasts are normally not tameable. While he understood the reasoning, he also noted that they should still be flagged as tameable BECAUSE they grow up into something tameable. Going back to the previous Beast Lore suggestion, he mentioned that if the babies shouldn't be tamed, then they should just already be controlled. "If a species can be tamed, then they should be appropriately marked", he said. When I told him that doing this would make a lot of things tameable, he simply responded with "then make them friendly or unattackable, obviously". He made a really good point there.
With that in mind, I suggest this;
- Make any NPC that is labeled or intended as a cub, hatchling, or any other form of juvenile beast use a baby model, when applicable.
- Convert all of the NPCs with baby models into friendly NPCs, except in cases where another NPCs summon them as minions, in which case have those summoned baby NPCs be under the summoning NPC's control.
- Make it so that the baby NPCs are flagged as tameable through Beast Lore in order to make it clear that the species, when matured, is tameable
This builds up on the above Beast Lore suggestion, and as I've stated in the past when I ran this suggestion by, would add a tremendous amount of flavor to the game. There really are a LOT of NPCs who are labeled as cubs, babies, hatchlings, and so on that use fully grown "adult" models, and it's no secret that a tameable baby keeps slipping through the cracks (and often unfairly being taken away from us when we tame them) in recent expansions. To combat accidents, just focus on the above suggestion. This way, the cracks are covered and they still keep the flavor provided by the other suggestions.
In the end, my friend wants animals to be treated appropriately. We're playing Hunters, and we tame beasts. We make them into our companions, and we shouldn't be calling our companions by what they are. He would love a pet baby crocolisk, but he's aware that such a thing won't likely happen. Even then, his various points were all reasonable material for suggestions. To summarize everything;
- Beast lore should be a passive spell that can be toggled, much like the various tracking skills
- NPCs with tameable skins should be marked tameable even if they are already controlled
- NPCs should always retain their name when tamed, no matter the NPC's significance
- NPCs that are intended to be babies should have baby models
- NPCs that are intended to be babies should be both friendly and marked as tameable
- NPCs that are intended to be babies and are summoned by NPCs as minions should also be marked as tameable, even though we can't tame things that are "Already controlled"
This has been my Ted Talk. Thanks for reading.

Nobody is going to read this and see that I like to find ways to do things the developers don't intend for us to do.
Nor will anyone read this and know that I am mad at pink unicorns. I will not elaborate.

Re: Suggestions for our Lurker.. ;)
Glyph of Polymorphic Companion
"When calling forth your pet, it will take on the appearance of a random pet from your stable. This effect is disabled in battlegrounds and arenas."
This glyph should be pretty self-explanatory. Imagine calling out a Blood Beast, but it has the appearance of an owl. Imagine calling out a clefthoof, but it resembles a mechanical chicken. The pet you call out is still the pet that you chose to call, but it has the appearance of a random pet you've tamed that you did not call out. Simple and fun! This glyph, as well as the next two, would OBVIOUSLY be disabled in any instanced PvP settings because of how confusing it would be for a player to try polymorphing the hunter's pet that looks like a tiny rat with a small hitbox, only for that pet to actually be a disguised undead raptor that's immune to polymorph due to being undead. Gotta keep it fair somehow, even if it detracts from the fun for a bit.
Glyph of Mirrored Companion
"Your Animal Companion now resembles the pet that you summoned. This effect is disabled in battlegrounds and arenas."
This glyph would be useful for hunters who like having two of the same pet, but do not want to have to stop at a stable master every time they want to change their Animal Companion. Likewise, it'd be helpful if you wanted to use two of the same rare pet, but have not had the fortune of finding a second copy of said pet. We all know how obscenely rare and sought after Loque'nahak is, so this would be a valuable glyph for players who have had bad luck getting that second Loque'nahak, for example. Plus, it harkens back to the days of Titanstrike, where we turned Hati into our own pet.
Glyph of Double Companion
"Your summoned pet now resembles your animal companion. This effect is disabled in battlegrounds and arenas."
This one is a mix of the prior two. Having a pet with the wrong family is always fun, and sometimes it's also fun to have two of the same pet. So, what if you want to use your pink elekk, but you want the value of a clefthoof? Put your pink elekk into your animal companion slot, summon a clefthoof, and boom; you now have two pink elekks and the valuable traits of a clefthoof!

Nobody is going to read this and see that I like to find ways to do things the developers don't intend for us to do.
Nor will anyone read this and know that I am mad at pink unicorns. I will not elaborate.
