One thing I wanted to comment on, I'm a little sad my felhunter is now an 'it' instead of a 'him'. I understand that they don't have so much of a pronounced gender as some of the other minions, but I was used to thinking of mine as male, and the old emotes had his/him/etc. Would there be a way to make male/female emotes where we can set the gender of our felhunter?
I did that originally. Then I took it out, after reading on how they reproduce. I'm not sure how many genders there are, and sometimes they apparently bud like yeast
But, lore aside, mine was female and it feels weird that she's an it now. I...might put it back.
I would love to have the gender back, just since it feels so...hollow seeing 'it' everywhere. I completely understand your reasoning for using that, I just think I feel closer to my little puppy when I can call him, well, him.

Yes, it will be done. Btw, what do you think of the rest of their emotes? I tried to base it off lore.
I am following, btw; I just haven't been on my lock since the patch and therefore haven't seen the new stuff. xD I'm glad the puppies will be getting their genders back!
Adding to my wishlist for Efindel: if there's a way to add a toggle that automatically turns off random emotes in battlegrounds, world pvp zones, and arenas (and back on when you exit), I would be eternally grateful. I love my spiders for standing perfectly still when we're in camo, but I don't like the fact that they feel the need to ANNOUNCE TO THE WORLD that they're standing still. (Yes, I could turn random emotes off manually, but sometimes I forget....and then my pet reminds me at the most inopportune moment.)
Hee, I'd say the felhunter emotes are a success! The priest in a few of my randoms wished his lock's pets were as animated as Haagrym, so I referred him to PetEmote.
The shriek/answering shriek emote played really well, though it's missing a period at the end of the first sentence. Still fun!
Didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to, because my bros had the idea that we should surprise my Dad by all visiting him for Father's Day. I did get *some* done, though:
- Created project on CurseForge. It's awaiting approval there. I don't think there should be a problem, but if they do question it, I'll dig up the relevant posts on here to show that Jorna gave permission for someone to take it over.
- Project creation asked for a license. Looking at Jorna's posts, I chose to use Creative Commons-Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike. That means that anyone who wants to can distribute PetEmote or modified versions, as long as they (a) keep the authors' names on it, (b) don't make money off of it, and (c) provide their version(s) under the same conditions.
- I updated the ToC file with the current Interface version, added my name and email, and bumped the version to 1.8.0. I also removed the .url files that were in the version I had, since the web pages they refer to don't exist any more.
- I uploaded the code to git on CurseForge, tagging it as a beta version. It's not visible yet, though, since the addon isn't approved yet.
- I looked through the code a bit. It looks like I should be able to modify it to use a set family instead of the pet's "real" family when choosing emotes.
Rest of the stuff is still on the to-do list, but at least I got *something* done....
@Kalliope: Request noted. I think it should be possible. I may look into the possibility of also adding a "don't do automatic emotes when the pet or me is in a stealth mode" flag. That would make sense in general, not just in PVP areas. Another possibility might be a "don't do automatic emotes when I'm flagged for PVP" flag. I've written code to watch for PVP flagging before, so I know I can do that one. Only thing I'm not sure about there is whether Arenas flag you for PVP.

Oh excellent! The only complication is that on a PvP server, you're flagged most of the time. Basically all the time, unless you're in an instance or safe zone. Kind of a hard call, since PvP on PvE servers is far more optional. You either kick on your PvP flag or get out of an arena, battleground, or designated world PvP zone.
- Curse approved PetEmote, but it looks like something that happened that's keeping Curse's packager from automatically creating the beta version package. Curse staff and I are both looking at it, and when there's a downloadable beta version on Curse, I'll post here.
The "beta" is available on Curse now. It doesn't include the "default-emotes.xml", since the addon itself doesn't use that - from what I can tell, it's just used by/for the editor, and it's more than three times as big as the rest of the addon put together. (Also, it'd get replaced once I get the new emotes from Teigan anyway.)
There's been no real changes to it, beyond changing the version number of the addon and the version of WoW that it's marked as being for in the ToC (so you won't have to have "load out of date addons" checked). But it's there!
Is there a way to make separately downloadable/installable files for each family? The way it works now is that the "custom-emotes" file I post overwrites all previous emotes. This is really unfortunate for people who want to write personalized emotes for a certain family. They basically have to choose between not using the new stuff, or losing and having to redo all their personal work. It seems a shame it can't be pieced out. It would create a huge list of files, but, for people's personal satisfaction it would be great. Forgive my lack of technical knowledge, btw
It definitely *can* be done, and I've been thinking about ways to do it some. The most flexible method would be for different families to be packaged as separate addons, which would "register" themselves with PetEmote. This would allow easier distribution, allow users to only download the packages for pet families they're interested in, and allow marking the addons as load on demand, reducing memory usage.
On the other hand, that also means that users would have to keep up with multiple addons, and the headaches that come with different versions of those.
It could all be kept in PetEmote... but to do that, the petemote.toc file would need to have a list of all the different files. That's not hard in itself, but it does mean that someone adding a new family (e.g., a custom family) would have to edit the TOC file.
Both ways could also be mixed - allowing people to do it the way it works now (with the custom-emotes file for their own emotes) and/or to download extended sets of emotes as separate addons. That might be the best overall solution.
ok...just seen the new up date on Cursed. Downloading it and hoping for the best Kind of excited to maybe have it up to date instead of being evil silly. I know there was talk of some new emotes? I cant wait to see if I see anything new.
Also miss my pets doing emotes at people or NPC's Im clicked on. My Ravie was especialy fun cause he would either shreak and/or bite people, includeing party/guild members if I was clicked on them long enough....I miss his surly attitude ^.^

There ARE new emotes, but I'm not really sure what vintage Efindel used. If it was last patch released by Jorna before she quit, there won't be anything new. I don't think he got a chance to add in my new stuff. So, you might want to download the custom-emote files and extract them to your PetEmote folder if you want the newest stuff
