My father is a poor excuse for a human being. today he disgusts me to the point where I can't even bring myself to eat yet I'm starving. I hate him more then I ever thought possible.

Re: Rant Thread
One of the kittens was taken to the vet, assuming they all have the same thing, and we can't afford $1800 for all of them.
Apparently they are suffering from Perineal/Rectal Hernia, and is very uncommon in cats. They do not do surgeries at this age either, they said. However, the cats are having diarrhea, not constipation. I'm not sure if this is right at all.
There is not a lot of information about the subject to find on the internet, but this is what I got..

They don't have any of those symptoms, not visually. If they are in pain, I wouldn't know, because they don't tell me anything and otherwise seem fine..Typically these signs consist of constipation, straining to defecate, straining to urinate, inability to urinate, urinary incontinence, abdominal pain, lethargy, depression, anorexia and altered tail carriage.

Re: Rant Thread
Is there another vet where you can get a second opinion? Do you have experience with this vet, and are they respectable? I had an experience with a REALLY bad vet once... We took Penguin in cause she had a REALLY bad URI... He gave us 3 meds.. one which was ONLY met to treat a symptom, was impossible to administer (had to be put on her eyeball) and was carcinogenic to people, and he opened it in the clinic so we had to take it.. he also spent the entire visit telling us OTHER ways she could DIE if we didn't get a bunch of expensive tests done because the shelters don't test for EVERYTHING under the sun.. even though she had no symptoms of those diseases... And not just "You might want to be concerned that she could possibly have ___ so keep an eye for for these symptoms and bring her back if you see them" no... "You need to get her tested for ___, ___ and ___ cause the shelters don't test for those and they will kill her, and she will die" ... ... ... Sadly, some vets seem to be in it strictly for the money :/Miyon wrote:They don't have any of those symptoms, not visually. Re: Rant Thread
I have no doubt they earn a lot of money in their profession. I have another vet I can take them to, that seemed a lot more reliable when I spoke to them over the phone. Thing is, It can't be Perineal/Rectal Hernia. I have spoken to several other vets today, and they say it is so rare, that very few vets have encountered it. It is more common in dogs. But this time I am going. I don't accept everything they tell me, I am not naive.
I hope Penguin got all well in the end?

Re: Rant Thread
Bah. Finally, when I'm back on a relatively normal sleeping schedule (Got up at 7 am, went to bed at 'bout quarter to 10 pm.), I then HAVE to wake up at 2:30 am and not be able to get back to sleep... In the end I got up, read a bit (Not that that bothers me one bit. God I love this book.. <3) then went downstairs and played Pokemon Rumble Blast on my 3DS. It's now quarter past 6 and I'm still not tired enough to go back to sleep. AUGH.

I am not nagging at you. I asked once, and then asked when we could go to the store, because it's not in walking distance, and I need that parcel NOW. Had it been a five minutes walk, I'd just left and picked it up. Too bad I am dependant on someone with a car to get anywhere. I can't wait until we move back to the city next year.

Re: Rant Thread
Yep
Penguin got better after a few days of the actual medicine. It was real bad though, she couldn't even breath from being so stuffed up... She'd try to fall asleep.. and get into a position where she could breath.. and then she'd move once she fell asleep, and her nose would stuff up and she'd wake up again... It was really sad to watch, as we'd only had her for a day, and she was just a little kitten... Now she's much older though
And she's never had any problems since, other than when I thought she died but that was caused by a VERY severe allergic reaction to fleas I think...
Hopefully the other vet has much better advice.

Just please for the love of god don't be one of those idoits who thinks just becouse they did some research on the internet that they know better than a vet. Do you know how many pets die each year becouse of idoits like that? More than you'd like to know. So don't assume that it's not what the vet says and think it's something else as it could be. It's better to not risk it ya know?
Not saying you are one tho.

Re: Rant Thread
I don't want to believe it is what that first vet said, because then they'd have to be put down.
I am going to get a second opinion from another vet, because it is so unlikely that all of them has a disease that is very rare in cats. It has to be said that only one of them were in, So it could be that that one kitten has it, but the others have something else. What strikes me as strange is that they all got sick at the same time, which points away from that specific disease, which then again makes me think they could have eaten something that made their stomachs fussy for a week.
I'm not gonna go and say that I know better than a vet, because I don't, but I won't accept just anything. Some of the vets I called couldn't even tell me what it was, that's how rare it is.
If that one kitten actually has it, even if no symptoms are right according to the vet, I seriously hope it is something they can fix at that age. I was told that we'd give them a couple of weeks. I think it is something fixable. They don't look sick, though I know that might not necessarily be a good thing.
I love these kitties more than you know (I think, lol), and I will do whatever I can. If they survive, I will only get to see one of them again, as it is my mother that wants it.

Yeah cats are werid you'd think not showing symptoms would be good but it's worse than showing them. I only said that becouse some people on this forum tend to go down that route ya know? It's not a good road to walk.

Re: Rant Thread
Really? I can't recall seeing anyone here claiming to know better than a vet about what's best for their pet...
Maybe I just missed it.

Cow, no one here said they were better then the vet, Miyon said she talked to a 2nd vet on the phone that sounded much more reliable then the first one, its in the quote you made when you made your rant about people thinking they're better then vets
