The night before last, I logged my hunter out near the brewery in Four Winds. My normal course of action on a regular WoW night is to log onto my 85 jewelcrafter pally and do the daily in Org, the over to my 90 warrior to do the 10 million dailies, and finally to the 86 hunter for some leveling and crane hunting. I dunno why, but last night I logged onto the hunter first.
I'd been a little grumbly about the assorted critters and little 'rocks' in the terrain that, when seen from a little ways off, resemble what I expected the barely visible tracks. I experimented with lower settings and such then rode around a little, looking for tracks before returning to the spot I'd chosen to camp. I based the spot on the video Kalliope had made. I figured that by getting the same view as was in the vid, I'd know I was in a spot Patrannache would walk past (as opposed to trying to guess based on the pathing maps and maybe being too far to one side or the other).
Anyway, I parked myself in the spot and hit logout. While the timer counted down to logout, I was grumping to myself again about the little critters and things that would sometimes make me think I'd spotted a track. For no particular reason, I moused over a couple, saying to myself "like that damned cricket thing and that....barely visible track??" So I canceled the logout (for once actually grateful for the 20 second timer when not in an inn or capitol city), went over and, yup..a track. I knew it hadn't been there before, so it had to be fresh. Odds are it appeared while I was setting my graphics higher in preparation for logging onto my warrior. I set 'em low again and checked the bird's route, deciding on a spot a little NW of the brewery, with a little bend in the road, just south of that plateau where you do a lot of the cooking dailies. I headed on up, and shot off a couple flares. The second one revealed a big pink bird.
It took two attempts to make the tame. The first time, I was clumsy and accidentally hit my Conc Shot key instead of Hunters Mark. Feigned, re-flared, marked and got my bird.
I never did spot another track after that first one. It was the start of a decent night in WoW. After showing off my new friend to some folks, I spent time on my warrior getting some nice boots after killing the Sha of Anger, a silly but fun toy from one of the world rares, and some good wins in EoTS while helping a friend in the last steps of getting Battlemaster.
