He's not been around long but my new Worgen hunter wouldn't mind a change of pace. I've always levelled with cats or wolves so time for a change methinks. Of course, his current low level limits his options :P

Swiftrunner
Level: 17
Exotics: Can't tame yet.
Restrictions: No cats or wolves. Preferrably grey, white, black or a mixture of, but will accept anything.

(If you prefer I'll level a bit and ask again later ;))

Rest in peace mum. I really did love and miss you, even if I never got to see you.

Kurasu, I feel the same way as you about dragonhawks. I never thought I would like them until I tamed one for the magic buff, and I fell head over heels for them, they're so beautiful.

I'd like another round please.

My hunter grew up Horde. From level 1-80, she was a nimble little blood elf who was a beast when it came to taming those creatures she wanted. With the release of the worgens, she knew that that was the race for her and soon changed factions, and races.

Since then change, I've spent all my time exploring the new Allinace and level 80 + areas. Imagine my shock and horror when I flew over the Barrens towards Mulgore. Its torn in two! But, the south-it has grown. No longer a mass of nothing but dead grass, more dead grass and even more dead grass... The Barrens are actually beautiful now....

Image

Flew to Thunderbluff, and then over it, as it was dark on my map. Circled around and found my target.

Image

Poor old bird never knew what hit him.

Image

........

Wait! I was supposed to tame it?!

Bah giant featherless chicken.... But it might be a good lure to bring Madexx out of hiding...

Fine, I'll tame it...

Image

Appropriately named, Lure, the big old bird and I make camp and wait.

Image

Now, I request another challenge! Something a touch difficult perhaps? Can do exotics any level.

Guys, it's a random challenge, which means asking for specific type pets means you're probably better off doing those types of tames yourself. The point of it being random is that you'll never know what you're going to get; the more specific you make it, the less random, and fun, it becomes. This is not only for us, but for the hunter community that may be looking for new pets as well.

Pet families you REALLY don't want (or specific skins): Bring it on! Anything at all! Though if you get something like Loque or something that is being camped like crazy right now (like Terrorpene) I'd like another one just in case I can't find the first one.

So, soon after I got my assignment my character had an identity crisis... she turned into who she was always meant to be. Now she is Täboo, a Worgen. (In case you are confused this is Xanrithe) After she changed, and became who she always knew she was, she went for her hunt for her new companion. After looking for the cave that she couldn't find for a while, she finally came across it. Running into blue ice spiders after spiders... then she finally found her companion. Taming without incident, and then directly after taming, I was under attack. Without hesitation, Amethyst jumped into battle, defending me!
Image
She even began getting attacked by one of her own, but that did not stop her from defending me. Soon, the first one was down, and the next one launched into action even more.
Image
Then, the battle was over.. we left the cave without another incident... It was time for her and I to get some bonding time. Being the first female on my team, it was time to fight together! We headed to Vash'jir saying good-bye to her once home and hello to her new home with me.
Image
We battled some Naga in Vash'jir, killed some eels without incident. Amethyst was a powerhouse, took anything handed to her without hesitation. Webbed anything that attacked me, giving me chance to back away and she instantly was taking them, down. Defending me with all her might... Never did I think I could enjoy a spider so much.
Image
Needless to say, Amethyst found her way into my heart. We are quite the duo. She definitely is a permanent addition to my family.

If you could sign me up for another!! :) I am having so much fun with this and finding new pets like this.

Täboo
Level 83
Exotic SURE
No limitations. :)

*have actually owned that guy before* Does that count?

He's a great pet, I especially love the piercing green eyes he has. Out of all the worg skins, he was always my favorite, even over the armored one. Other then his looks, he is a pretty average wolf. If you manage to get him, you are not going to see many people with him out and about, as he is not the most popular of pets.

Took me about 8 hours to camp him before.

Still want me to go get him, or try for something else? :P Wolfs and cats I've tamed just about every one of them at some point.

A Carrion Bird for an Undead Hunter. Fitting!

After taking the portal to the Blasted Lands Dutak made his way to Deadwind Pass to tame a Sky Shadow, purely because it was the closest blue vulture he could get to since he was in Orgrimmar and he has an unnatural hatred for Desolece.

Image
Flying over Karazhan. oooo aaaaah

It didn't take long before he found his prey.

Image
Target Get!

For being about 30 levels lower than Dutak the birds were fairly hostile when he got within range. There was also a problem with Crysalis the Shale Spider being out and unhappy that Dutak was being attacked so he might have slaughtered a bird or two before he could dismiss him.

Image
Not the eyes! Not the eyes!

But that difference in power made things pretty easy for our brave Dutak and soon the Sky Shadow was his loyal, if not miffed, companion!

Image
And only a small bit of flesh missing!

Sadly that was all it took for our Hunter to complete his task and he said one last farewell to Deadwind Pass before flying back to the Blasted Lands to see if that flagged Night Elf was still there.

Image
So long Deadwind Pass, see you for the next Karazhan raid!

That was fun stuff. I think I'd like another challenge :D

Pet families you REALLY don't want (or specific skins): Something challenging, but if I get a rare spawn could you give me a second choice as well? I could probably get something like Spiteflayer/Takk the Leaper but something like Loque/Sambas is going to take me months if I'm lucky :/

My first 'random pet challenge' was back over to TBC content. So it was back through the Dark Portal. When I first got this red nether ray, I felt a it disappointed. The last time I had tamed a nether ray was at level 69 in Netherstorm. After a few minutes I had let it go. When I headed over to Shadowmoon, I was sure that I would have a bit of problems with the cunning pet and it's pvp special ability. Though when I finally got there, I was surprised at how pretty this model was. I went for the tame, and knew immediately what I would name the little bugger. This is Zeke.
Image

I love this coloring, it's dark, but the red is very nice. Then his stomach give a beautiful nether particle effect that is stunning. His movement is very smooth and looks great.

Image

His noises were fine, didn't bother me, and his damage is good, compared to my normal ferocity pets. The only thing I really had a problem with was that his health drops quickly, and it is hard during combat to heal him up. I was questing in Uldum with this little guy and he did pretty well. That's the realy only thing I had a problem with. My opinion on nether rays are a lot better now, and I think Zeke is a keeper!

Image

This is a bit of Zeke battling a nasty little pygmy.

Sorry for no screenshots, my internet can't upload right now. :-(

I had a spotted cheetah for my test. I've tamed the skin once or twice, but it never really clicked. Well, I tried again for Tain.
First things first, I went out to the Barrens and found Dishu. Took a few minutes because I forgot about one of the spawn points, but in the end I had her. She was prowling about magnificently, being very Pride Lady-ish. I quickly dismissed my croc and tamed her.
I must admit, first impression was... Bleh. It's a pretty skin, yes, but it's so... yellow! I was disenchanted from the start. Unfortunately, my opinion of her appearance didn't approve even after I went out to Tanaris and killed a few things with her. She's nice and all, but she doesn't click.
Now, in combat, I'll vouch for her. She did very well, kept aggro pretty well (though not a Tenacity pet by any means) and did plenty of damage. She did seem pretty well fitted for running over the dunes to nimbly pounce on hyenas, and that's where she'll be staying.

So, final verdict - Pretty but bland, a very nice DPS pet, but not something I'd want to keep as a tank. For another kind of hunter I'm sure she'd fit perfectly, but it just didn't fit Tain.

Can I get another for Tain? ^.^

So my pet was to be the Green Turtle.
Image
I had a feeling I would like him. Always thought a turtle would make a good tank. So off I went to Loch Modan to pick him up. It was only a short stay as I had been located in Sholzar Basin doing the oracle dailies, farming herbs, and semi camping for the elusive spirit beast Loque. I was not doing long stints, but as I farmed, I would make an occasional trek to each of his spawn points.

I got back to the basin and set up my turtles talents. I decided I would take one trek around the basin before starting my dailies. I rounded the pillar by the gorillas and NPCScan starts blaring at me. It is none other than Loque. I was estatic. Was this turtle going to bring me luck?

After getting Loque into my stables, I then set off to do the dailies. Here you see my lucky turtle holding 3 wolvar with no problem. They really were not much of a challenge for him.
WoWScrnShot_121610_172208.jpg
WoWScrnShot_121610_172208.jpg (261.06 KiB) Viewed 1745 times
So after the dailies I wanted to try him on an elite. The one I knew of was Krueg Oathbreaker in Dragonblight. So I headed that way. On the flight path over, NPCScan went off and below me was Tuckmuth. Once I landed, I flew back, and with my trusty turtle, we were able to get the achievement Nothern Exposure. This was a lucky turtle, so that became his name... Lucky.
WoWScrnShot_121610_174249.jpg
WoWScrnShot_121610_174249.jpg (257.67 KiB) Viewed 1745 times
We now went on back to take on Krueg. I thought it was not going to be to bad, he's 5 levels below me and 2 levels below lucky. Was I wrong. Our first attempt was a complete failure. I didn't get heals on Lucky fast enough and he struggled till the end. I did not expect the fears that Krueg would put on me. Did I eat humble pie. We did though in the end get our elite. Once I figured out how to benefit Lucky's ability for shield and cower, the rotation kept lucky alive, and he kept krueg away from me.
WoWScrnShot_121610_183911.jpg
WoWScrnShot_121610_183911.jpg (293.44 KiB) Viewed 1745 times
Finally, I decided to take him into a battle ground, but to do so I hade to undo his talents and reassign to as much DPS as I could. We ended up in Conquest but there is not much to say. The only real tenacity pet I would take is a Rhino just because I like to have him toss a player around, but to me tenacity pets should do what they are designed to do.. Be tanks.
I will be keeping Lucky for now. He may morph into a fire turtle, but he and my beetle will be my tanks for questing.

Upon receiving my assignment I groaned a little-- a wolf? I don't like wolves!-- but then brightened up: I'd been hoping to get assigned a family I hadn't already picked out a pet from to bolster my stables, so hey, at least this was sparing me the headache of deciding which wolf I dislike least. Anyways, a quick perusal of Petopia later, Eolian was off to the Hinterlands!

Settling on a full-grown raiding wolf (rather than a puppy), the tame was quick and painless.
Image

And, well, since she had other business across the Eastern Kingdoms anyways, Eolian promptly ignored her new wolf to go do Extremely Important Things, like uncapping her skinning skill.

...what?

Anyways, not too much later the queue for Upper Blackrock Spire popped, yay! Little did she realize that she was about to embark on a genocidal cleansing of unprecedented proportions! No, really, the tank had something against the baddies in there (read: rep-lust). So he... promptly ran off to do LOWER Blackrock Spire. Great. Well, the upshot is Eolian and whatsitsname had lots of time to bond. Err, right, naming... names... around the time we rumbled up to ruin Voone's day, she divined what the wolf represented, and thus what its name would be. Say hello to Thievery, ladies and gentleorcs. Or for all you non-orcs, Urukruka.
Image
Image

The cleansing continued, as the tank aimlessly raged into whatever moved funny and Eolian stood in the back helpfully aiming him in approximately the right direction. A couple times I had a passing snicker at how the dungeon to try out my new wolf featured so many OTHER wolves. They were everywhere!
Image

Anyways the run got boring from y'all's perspective when we finished clearing LBRS and started on UBRS-- our tank poofed and the string of replacements were all kinds of incompetent, so lucky little Urukruka got benched while my beetle did all the heavy "no no no oh god get off the healer" lifting.

ANYWHO, I got out of Blackrock eventually, and gave him a spin out in the Blasted Lands-- we demonically placed some bodies back together!
Image

We set tadpoles free!
Image

Good times were had by all! (Except for the people we mercilessly slaughtered FOR THE HORDE! Also, Kum'isha. He wouldn't know what a good time was if it backed over him in a bulldozer.)

Results:
I was actually pretty pleased with Urukruka. I've generally found myself preferring the worg and northrend worg models-- coyote skins have that dumb snarl, argh-- but the worgs' run animations drive me nuts, while the coyote lope looks much better to me. Given that I spent approximately all my time watching this wolf lope hither and yon, this was a big point in its favor. Good color too, a nice inoffensive charcoal.

In terms of gameplay performance, it handled just fine. Ferocity has an unfortunate "I want 20 things and I have the talent points for 3" thing going for it at low levels, but whatever, nobody cares about that 1% before raids. Crit aura was nice, as I expected it to be, although nothing to make me drop to my knees and cry for joy. Otherwise completely in line with my experiences with any given Ferocity pet-- "yay, it hits stuff. And then things die."

Verdict: I'll be keeping Urukruka in the stables for whenever I happen to need its services; I'm still a bit biased against wolves, and I'd rather have other pets handy when nobody much cares what I have on me. But it's a welcome addition to Eolian's collection, and I plan to keep it around as long as I can. Two thumbs up for the assignment!
