they turned out ok I guess. I like the new textures and expressions but they look a bit overly buff- even vrs the older model they look kind of big. Also, is it just me or did the poor guy inherit the human male's old wrist problem? it just looks like beefy arm, beefy arm, beefy ar-FINGERS!
I also miss the feathering at the top of the hooves. the abrupt stop gives off the look of a weird skin bump surrounding the hoof that I don't like.
face tentacles still look a bit...off.
Hes not my favorites and personally I think he could still use a bit of work but the overall upgrade to texture and expression were done well.
Maybe I am just nit picking here since these guys were never a favorite of mine but I think they still need a few small tweaks.

Lets remember guys...the model isn't finished. It's just the progress of the model as it says on MMO Champion by Chris Robinson. :)

So very true :) It's good to provide feedback to them, but silly to get too upset at this point as everything is still subject to change!

Woooohhh those steroid arms man. Wow. Er... those veins are a bit much. .__.

I really hope those face tendrils aren't done though, they look so stuck on to the face like they shouldn't even be there right now. The gold rings look like they're clipping through his face too.

On a similar (kinda sorta not really i suppose) vein... I saw this interesting image over on MMO. Probably one of the nicest fan concepts I've seen on the idea to date thus far.

I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed in the new male Draenei model. He looks like he now lives on a diet consisting solely of steroids.

I guess I'm weird, in that I'm not really a huge fan of the super buff ripped live-in-the-weight-room look for character models.

I wonder if the model they show off in the artcraft is the one that's "live" on beta realms right now, or if it's a newer version. It'd be nice if they'd said, but we'll just have to see I guess, haha.

I think it's really obvious that the ones in beta aren't even close to done (my monk's mustache clips into his face, his tentacle has no posing, and his hairstyle—the long braid with the weird blade-ish gem at the bottom—is glued to his back like a lot of the old hairstyles (whereas its free and animated on the old models). The in-beta model is also a bit weird in that it's the only model I've come across so far that actually changes your camera height when you swap between new models and old (getting identically-angled screenshots for the other races with new models that I've tried is pretty easy, but was proving problematic for this guy).

Image

I'm not grossly attached to my monk (he's one of only three? four? male characters I've ever rolled) so I guess I'm not having the same "THE WORLD IS ENDING" feeling that I was getting (and still get) from my human hunter or any of my dwarves. And hey, maybe the problems I have with him will be fixed, even if I doubt that those veins will ever stop popping quite so much :|

Fan art, however well done as it is, really isn't a fair comparison when it has none of the retstrictions that models do. I'm sure the Blizz artists could blow away the model art with pure illustrations as well.

Personally...!
I actually like the look of the original face more. I think it's the detail around the nose and the fact the tentacle doesn't just flop around off his chin...and the facial structure just feels more... draenei-ish to me. The cheekbones and jaw structure makes sense for these non-human goat people, with all their horns and jagged head platting..! The new ones feel too smooth for a race with lots of hard edges in the design.
Maybe it's just this face, but some of the older detail feels muted... For example, the dark rings around his eyes are barely noticeable. They look more like shadows from his brow, instead of the sunken eyes of a stressed and battle hardened vet. ;)

I know they aren't finished and the art team is still working hard, so I'll have to cast my vote then

Yeah I totally agree—I feel like the new face looks too muted (like the person creating the texture was sampling the old texture but had their eyedropper on a 3x3 average instead of pixel-perfect) and while the animations are more expressive, the default face is not. However, we're not sure if the in-beta models are the ones that got shown off in the artcraft, nor do they appear to have different model rigging implemented in beta (which I think we've now confirmed is a thing that's going to happen?) so this particular facial texture probably isn't the right one for this particular face model. I'm reasonably certain that all that will be fixed, though I spent a couple minutes in between creating the character on beta (to go test the spittoon for the toybox thread) and actually going out to do what I'd intended to do to report all of that stuff, just in case.

The problem with the artcraft (and what's making it difficult for me to tell whether it's the in-beta model or if it's an updated/revised version) is that the main area of contention and difference between the two models—the neck, or lack of same—is largely obscured by the tentacles/facial hair they chose to display.

I think I agree with Rozza on the faces actually. I like the old one. It just has more depth. I think its the sunken eyes and the nose details that I like about the older one.

Also I hope I don't come off as sounding mad. I just see a lot of things I hope they will improve on as beta goes buy. Out of all the models I just think this one will need the most tweaking as they develop wod. Hopefully they will listen to the feedback as they go. I don't doubt that they will continue to work on them.

It's not 100% relevant to the playable model updates - but a new spooky, scary skeleton popped up on MMOChamp. Do you guys think this will be used for new enemy NPCs or perhaps a race-detecting Noggenfogger?

I'd say npcs most likely. It would be a bit odd for human skellys to be showing up in Draenor I think.
