Based off that, I'd say that they overall behave more like dogs, but have some physical behaviors inherited from lions. Grooming their manes (problematic for the stone ones), for example, would definitely be something they picked up from their lionlike roots. The sense of pride regarding themselves and their duties seems to be a mix of both species as well.Teigan wrote:Good point. I think its been established where they come from. That's probably not of primary importance. Its is true that they come off much more dog like in game, despite their origins. So.....after all that, it brings us back to the original question of how they should behave.
It's a fine line, but the original origin is included.

Perfect way to look at it!Zhinru wrote:In my opinions, if Quilen were to be classified by a zoologist, they would have an independent order within Carnivora, so a "sister" classification to canines and felines. So if you ask me, they should use both canine and feline-feeling emotes - or just a general "big mammalian predator" feeling.

Point taken but, when you fight something while using a Quilen pet, they fight with both their claws and teeth and more importantly, they roar and don't ever bark.Kalliope wrote:I think we've long been aware of how different certain WoW species are from their real world counterparts. Neither is wrong; they are merely different.
My take on it is this: I wouldn't expect a WoW chimera to have lion-like traits despite its portrayal in Greek mythology or a WoW basilisk to act like any other portrayal of a basilisk.
From what I've seen, WoW quilen seem to behave more like dogs overall, though they still clearly have a lionlike mane. That does not change anything about their original inspiration. This is just what Blizzard's take on them is. Personally, I prefer PetEmote to be consistent with what Blizzard's put into the game, but that's me.

I'm with Junrei on this one; quilen roars don't sound like lion roars to me. They're not full-bodied and sound more like snarls. There are some similar tones, but that's about it.Junrei wrote:Dogs fight with their claws and teeth too, Daniel.I watch my two dogs play fight all the time and they're always biting and swiping at each other. I've never heard my Quilen roar. Sounds more like growls and snarls to me, which dogs do when play fighting.

Teigan wrote:What do I with quilen? Are they dog-like? Cat-like? Bear-like? What would you like to see? Right now, they're kinda cat-like, and snooty cause apparently I can't set moods right when I'm in a hurry. I'm infatuated with quilen, but not with the emotes.....
Personally, I see them as sort of, oh, what are those gigantic black dogs? Newfoundlands? The really big, bearlike ones. But with some cat-like tendencies.
I know that it's a bit late for this bit of the discussion...but I have adored the mix of easy-going and grumpy, moody emotes on the quilen. I took a certain amount of trouble to tame the red-eyed blue Quilen out of the scenario that features them. I named it after a friend of mine's character, a very grumpy Chiss in SWTOR - and the first emote that my new lion-dog does when he gets his name is "(name) grumbles moodily." I was thrilled. And I really haven't had any mental disconnect regarding their emotes - there are, after all, certain breeds of dog that are said to have a bit of a reputation for moodiness, so it hasn't really bothered me.

Cera stomps her feet
-- in a bored manner
-- impatiently
-- merrily
-- shaking the ground
Cera bellows
-- loudly
-- happily
-- mournfully
Cera shakes her head
-- displaying her sharp horns
-- showing off her impressive frill
-- attempting to shake off pesky insects
Cera flicks her tail
-- showing off her sharp spines
-- threateningly
Cera shakes her horns dangerously at (hostile target)
Cera paws at the ground
-- bored
-- anxiously
Cera tilts her head to
-- gaze lovingly up at her master/mistress
-- peer curiously at (friendly target)
-- stare warily at (hostile target)
Cera grunts
-- softly
-- loudly
-- in greeting to (friendly target)
Cera snorts.
Cera leans affectionately against her master/mistress.
Cera hooks a horn under her master's/mistress' bag strap and tugs at it. Someone's hungry!
Cera butts her master/mistress playfully with her snout.
Cera slams her tail against the ground, leaving a dent.
Cera peers wistfully into the distance.

Yes I've tested and it is only this addon causing it.
I only have three addons so not like testing was hard.
