And for an update these guys look so close to the original, it's amazing. They did a great job and the females look so strong..!
Plus they look as if they're standing up tall instead of being stiff. Now I wanna see how they move!

They face they show is the only face I ever use because it is one of the kindest looking face but the expression looks a bit different now. He kinda looks more annoyed to me.
Also the shape of the ears seems a bit different.

Re: New Character Models Discussion - Update! Trolls!
Yeah, I saw that too. Not sure how I feel on that honestly. XD Such an odd little bit of disparity on the different genders.MaximumOverdrive wrote:Are the males tusks on their upper jaws while females are on their lower? Huh...kinda weird...but they look great overall!
Overall, liking what I see, the females especially. They even fixed the jagged hairline on that one braided hairstyle that bugged the heck out of me, thank goodness. They also look a bit more like the same species as the male now as well, at least to me. A lot of those extra details really help out!
The males are looking fine, but not quite clicking as much as their lady companions are. They also seemed to not show as much of a variety of male facial expressions, either that or those tusks are harder to model around than I had expected.
I cannot wait to see them in action, the one thing I loved about trolls is how loose their movements were - the male walk especially. Still images can only do so much.

I'm sure there'll be continued tweaking to the facial expressions, the example shown does have a very different vibe from the original, but I can't wait to see them in motion. I'm sure they'll look awesome.

I noticed the expression being wildly different as well. That face always looked very excited and open to me, and the updated one just looks grumpy! We'll see, though. I'm sure these are very much WIPs!azurelith wrote:Male trolls are one of my favorites to play but I am not sure what to think of these. For the most part I like the update but I have a few things I don't really care for.

And I noticed too, Moon, that the males so far have less expression variation. I think that's because of the tusks- the dev mentioned how modeling around the tusks was very difficult. I imagine it's hard to show a lot of emotion when the lips are being pulled to both sides at all times!

I can totally see how much of a pain in the bum it would be to make 3d emotions on the males. I did try to do that with 2d animation and it was bloody awful >.<LupisDarkmoon wrote:I noticed the expression being wildly different as well. I'm with you there. We technically play Darkspear trolls, which are Jungle trolls- and jungle trolls have fur. I really wish that showed through on the new models, instead of them being completely smooth-skinned aside from a few warts here and there.Azunara wrote:It's dumb and petty but I'm really not feeling the whole wart thing. Would have preferred to see a more fur like texture than warts.
The warts don't really bother me too much, because armor will cover 98% of them, but c'mon. Fur, please!

I'm really glad that both my Trolls have armor that covers them completely, I'm really not liking the warts at all. But the faces I'm nuts for!

Re: New Character Models Discussion - Update! Female Tauren!
If they have scrapped it entirely and just gone with skin, I'll be sad but it won't be a dealbreaker for me. I headcannon a lot of WoW stuff anyway and will be joining Lupis in just drawing/writing my trolls as fuzzy.
I actually quite like the warts myself, I think they add a bit of "savage" to the model. And body imperfections in general are cool by me, sometimes I don't always want to play as a bodybuilder or sex symbol. But I can see why they'd not be cool for other people, and I hope it's just part of the skin colour that they chose to use for this example - and that there are other skins that lack them.

I guess it's hard to show off fur on a seemingly non-fur race. Plus most people don't include the fur/warts in their fanart. So who knows. :SVephriel wrote:I really am starting to wonder if Blizzard has just decided to scrap the fur thing altogether, or retcon it. I only see it in fanart these days. :c

When I picture fine fur in my head I see it as hard to see. Like Human body hair can be pretty hard to see on some people but if you get close to them you can see it so kind of like that.Moonlost wrote:It's really hard to say. They've always said that the troll fur was "fine", which could mean so close to the body as to not really look all that prominent. But even so, it's a shame that you can't really see any sign of it at all. It was such a neat little detail.

Re: New Character Models Discussion - Update! Female Tauren!

I guess it's there if you look for it on the older skin textures, but as it was never the same colour of any other hair on their body and instead the actual colour of their skin, I kind of missed it

That said, think it's the 1st update where the eyes on both the male and most notably the females have not been enlarged by much, if at all. In fact, both sexes eye seem a little smaller. Regarding the warts, the original male certainly had them, they were just so blurry that when looking back now one is like "Ohhhhhh they are warts, yeah yeah I see them now

Also regarding the males facial expression changing, they may have not done a pass on it yet, but who knows. Also there is one outstanding difference between the old and new that creates the new feel, and it the pupil size. It's as simple as this....

The Tauren female really had me excited but hot damn, those trolls literally call out 'oh my god YES!' In the middle of the lunch room at work.
Love love love them!

The red lines show an important change in eye shape- I think that might be part of the expression difference!

Precisely! This is my guess as well.Vephriel wrote:I think it's definitely those pronounced brows as well that weren't there in the originals, gives him more of a scowl, but I'm sure they'll have to do with the new animated expressions.
Lets not forget, when a lot of the models previews where 1st released, they had pretty different facial expression/looks at the start, and they still working on those ones.
Now <------------------> Then

**EDIT** Oh and forgot to mention, I'm totally digging the new bigger/longer ears, on both the males and females
