Hi everyone, first-time poster, long time fan of Petopia. This website has given me so much help, so in the hopes that I may offer a tiny bit of help to others, I will post some information about my tames of King Krush, Aotona and Loque'nahak.
First off, the method I used for my pursuit was patrolling every half hour, then camping at a spawn point in between, which I saw recommended on this site and which is the reason I now have three beautiful new pets. However, the amount of time you spend camping is no guarantee of success; one must always factor in other hunters, achievement seekers, griefers, and the NPC spawn limit.
King Krush spawned twice for me while camping Loque; one night at 11.20p.m., and one night at 12.20a.m. server time. Both times, he spawned at Loque's lower south eastern spawn point, near the Hardknuckle Foragers. He pats off to Skyreach Pillar and back again after spawning. Apparently he is immune to traps, and when he hits, he hits
very hard. Though I was in no danger of dying, I was surprised at the great slice he took out of my health. I can confirm that the rumour that Loque'nahak spawns at the same point Krush does up to six hours later is not true, and is simply a coincidence. They just happen to share this point, and, as has been said by others, they do not share timers.
I found Aotona while patrolling towards Mosslight Pillar, but he was quite close to the river on the right hand side of it. I found him at 2.13a.m. I had already patrolled this area at two o' clock, and he was not there then, so neither he or Krush, or indeed Loque'nahak, spawned 'at the hour', and I would theorise that the time is random. He has a Wing Buffet ability that can break a tame, but other than that it was straightforward. NPCscan is a wonderful tool, but I would also recommend creating a targeting macro for your NPC, just in case; despite his colourful plumage, Aotona was difficult to spot from above.
Tonight, having lost out on Loque last night when another hunter came in and tamed him before I knew he was there, but who still showed him to me where I was waiting to patrol, I decided I may as well try again. I found him at 9.44p.m. prowling near mammoths above Nesinwary's, oddly enough, higher than his usual listed spawn points in that area. I went into a blind panic at the time, but I'll head back and see if I can pinpoint the location. Again a straightforward tame. My hands were shaking for ages afterwards.
Aside from the initial loss of Loque after camping several hours, the most frustrating thing about the whole camp was NPCscan repeatedly picking up Putridus the Ancient, who is actually in Icecrown, but who, I've heard, can set off an NPCscan half way across Northrend. This is possibly due to his size, but if anyone knows how to block an NPC from the scan (someone always reaches him before I get to him), I'd appreciate it. Though the false alarms were frustrating, NPCscan is an incredible asset.
Happy hunting! Don't give up! Listen to the advise of earlier posters on this thread; they are very helpful.
