I know I owe a report. I even already have all of the screenshots and everything, but real life stress is making it hard for me to enjoy... anything. So I plan to have it soon. Sorry!

Please, take your time! I don't want you to feel like you need to crank a report out. Just push it aside and take care of your needs in real life first. :)

I know exactly how you feel, I'm feeling similar, myself, so please take care of yourself and come revisit us when you're ready. :D

Also, rolls to come in the next post. :)

King Krush. One of my favorite pets now that I've tamed her and used her (yes, she's female now). Cissy is a great looking pet and I use her for almost everything I can get away with and she's always by my side. Here are some pics of her, though really, I could take pics of her all day in all of her various awesome poses:

Image

Cissy smiling:

Image

Cissy from the side, normal and giving her cutely ferocious roar:

Image

Image

Cissy swimming. Devilsaurs swim in a very awkward, silly manner. Paddling their front legs really fast and sloooowly moving their back ones:

Image

Sara and Cissy:

Image

Cissy is one of the best pets I've ever used and tamed. She has an awesome Terrifying Roar ability that gives extra crit and she can keep aggro amazingly well. It took me 2 years to find her and tame her, but it was well worth the wait. I love her. Her lime green appearance is really unique and gives her that extra something other Devilsaurs don't have. If you can find King Krush, tame him! Do not let this precious Devilsaur get away if given the chance to tame it! The animations are just wonderful and Devilsaurs definitely have awesome skins for being such old models compared to pets like Skarr, Karkin, spirit beasts, etc.

Incoming report about a really tricky guy:
Image

This nice little guy can only be found in a BC-raid: the Sunwell Plateau.
Again my fiance had to be the one to group up with me and go there. Positive thing: we knew where to go. Negative thing: we both didn't know anything about Sunwell.
So we enter the raid, go around a corner and spot a group of elves along with a dragonhawk. I freeze the dragonhawk, my fiance pulls the elves. So far so good. We kill some of the elves, suddendly I drop dead. I didn't have aggro or was anywhere near the group. Then my fiance dies, too. We rezz confused about what just had happened. Sadly the whole group had repawned. Again freeze trap on the dragonhawk and a careful pull via death grip of my fiance. We kill most of the elves and AGAIN I die. I had paid attention, no aggro, no casts on me. My life dropped from a 100% to zero. I release spirit and run in again, my fiance has managed to survive with about half of his health and now is followed by the angry dragonhawk. I throw a trap, he ignores it and is still after my fiance. I try to take the aggro via the shot that gets you aggro, he goes at me, but just for a moment and turns back. I shoot again and finally manage to freeze him, his health already only at about 60%. I hit tame and he becomes mine. Confused and a little bit frustrated (hey, level 70 mobs killed us, me twice!) we decide to let Sunwell be Sunwell and decide to visit Kael'thas instead. My new dragonhawk didn't get a chance to do much, because I pretty much oneshotted the mobs, but he worked like a good luck charm. It was my second time in this dungeon and I had never ever had the hope to ever get the phoenix hatchling, but thanks to fate it dropped. My second run! Perhaps my new dragonhawk is a good luck charm?

Image

I named my new friend Prometheus, after the greek god who was known as the creator of animals and mankind and the god of culture. It seemed to fit.
We visited the little orc child Jaga in Orgrimmar, who has the same pet. Big Prometheus and little Spooks seemed to have a lot to tell each other.

Appearance:

Prometheus is the only dragonhawk skin I always admired. He's stunningly beautiful with the blue and purple body while his wings' tips almost are green. I never would have tamed this pet (simply because I hate every kind of raid) if he hadn't been my challenge. I know, I could have taken the owl, but I wanted a real challenge and he was well worth it. He is quite big for a hunter's pet if he stretches out his wing. I like it.
Something that has already been mentioned by several people is the lack of feet. I like flying pets, but every pet needs to sit down once in a while and I wonder what Prometheus does. Does he curl up like a snake with wings? Vephriel made a remodel in some thread where she made the dragonhawks have feet. I would love Prometheus to have feet.

Image

Sounds and animations:

Prometheus' combat sounds are strange. I can't really describe them, perhaps something like a coughed snarl?! But they seem to fit this strange creature. Out of combat I didn't notice any sounds. Not even a flapping, but perhaps my volume was not up high enough.
His swimming animation is the same as his flying: flap - flap - flap only slower and more graceful than than in the air.
The only idle animation besides the flapping of Prometheus is to move his head ever so slightly frome one side to the other like looking around bored.

So his animations and sounds are quite boring, I couldn't find anything special.

Fighting:

What Prometheus is lacking in animations he makes up during a fight. He really is fun to watch.
First he uses his special ability Fire Breath, then he attacks the target with everything he has: wings, tail, head. He rises in the air to scoop down on his target, then attacks with his wings, and then hits with his tail. This makes him appear very active and I enjoyed watching his "show".
Image
The last time I played with a dragonhawk was when they still did fire damage as their special ability. This has been changed to a debuff on the target which increases the taken magical damage by 8%.
Because of this debuff I decided to go to a dungeon with him. It was Deadmines (I swear, this dungeon is haunting me, it pops up every single time I want to do a dungeon!) together with a shadow priest and a mage for damage. Both were poorly equiped (I think they just had enough gear to go into a heroic) and so I think Prometheus' debuff helped them a lot to make their 8k dps. I noticed that Prometheus tries to keep up the debuff on as many targets as possible (it is on a 30 sec cooldown, even shorter as BM, but lasts for 45 seconds), which I think is really nice. If you switch target and it already has the debuff, that increases your damage. We made it through the dungeon without a wipe and Prometheus also provided good dps. I don't think I did more dps than usual, but also I didn't do less than when I have out a ferocity pet. Prometheus is a cunning pet and so I really was surprised how well he did.
For the icing on the cake my npc-scan blared at me while in Deepholm with my Shaman for the rare dragon Xariona. I couldn't find her with my Shaman, so I logg over to Morga and find her high above Deepholm. I land on one of the platforms, pull her and die. Of course I didn't look at her health :D So I get together a small raid group with my fiance, a guildie and 5 other people and and kill her. My guildie got a nice robe, an other hunter a pair of gloves (I already have better ones) and I was really satisfied with Prometheus during this fight.

Conclusion:

Prometheus is a really good pet. I would have never tested out a dragonhawk with him (or any other hunter) but I now plan to get his skin for my purple collecting baby hunter Nerdanel. I don't think his fragile frame fits my bulky orc so well, but he'll definitly be sticking around for a while. Perhaps Morga will get the red one or a wind serpent (which provides the same debuff).
I absolutely love his colors and his ability is really nice to increase your damage with arcane shot. But I think it would be nice to have either a wind serpent or a dragonhawk as ferocity pet. Both pets are cunning and I would love to have one of them with a ferocity tree.

edit: as long as Prometheus sticks around with Morga, his stables are full. So this time a roll for Finduilas.

The initial trash pulls into Sunwell are a real bitch; there's a couple of mobs (whose names escape me atm) that have to be killed asap or you're screwed.

For future people interested in the blue dragonhawk, I would advise looking up some strategies for taming this guy; I'm sure there's some guides out there. :) Even for 85s parts of Sunwell aren't a walk in the park.

Yes Tyger, I think I forgot to mention that :) I really didn't think much about it. I was like "oh well, they are 70, I'm 85". But just to make it clear: if you are up for a challenge, do it without reading anything about it. But if you want to avoid death: come up with a strategy before the pull. I'll defenitely think of something when going out with Nerdanel to tame him for her.

My tactic for getting the blue dragonhawk was: kill the initial robot, trap the dragonhawk, pop deterrence (while also using a +500 haste pot), and start taming. Your tame should go off when you're very near death. After that, just feign and let the mobs kill the newly tamed dragonhawk, pop up, rez the pet, and gtfo Sunwell with your new blue cutie.

My tactic for helping a lvl 70 player get the blue dragonhawk: go in on my paladin in prot spec, let the lowbie hunter trap the dragonhawk, make sure all the other mobs are on me, and with luck, the lowbie's tame will go off before I die and the mobs run to her. We failed a few times because I was feared, which immediately set the mobs on her and interrupted her tame. Once I managed to avoid being feared long enough, she was able to tame the dragonhawk this way easily. We did both end up dead, but I had helped a lowbie get a pet she'd never have had a chance at otherwise.

I love the fact that there are still challenges to be found in the old raids. It keeps them fresh and interesting. After wiping on H Rag for months now I have a feeling he'll still be challenge all the way through the next expansion. We have seen his legs though so we're making progres!! Your repor, Fin, makes want to try to tame one of these blue dragonhawks just to see how difficult it is!

If you do it my way, it is not difficult at all. If you have problems killing the robot, it might be a problem because you'd have to find a way around him and all those mobs. They are, unfortunately, able to detect camo. At least, they were last time I went in.

Ghost Jormungar was my assignment. I had worked to get the daily to make him tamable via Sons of Hodir rep, thanks to Starkittens telling me how to get one. I thought he was really neat looking at first. After using him for dailies and such, I actually came to dislike him enough to decide on abandoning him since I know now that I can get him any time I want to. Here are some shots from my assignment though. He really was a cutie, but three worm pets was a little much and I love Kulingile (yellow worm) and Severus (black worm) too much to get rid of:

Image

Image

Side shot and face shot in Zul'drak. He is EXTREMELY transparent:

Image

Image

Swimming Mabo and Maboroshi and Sara:

Image

Maboroshi was named for the japanese word for illusion, since thats what he looks like. An illusion. He is so very see-through that he beats out any spirit beast and needs to be a spirit beast in my opinion since he is exotic anyway. As a worm, he's still a great tank pet, but I think I would like him a lot more if he were ferocity as a spirit beast than as a tenacity pet. We need a spirit worm anyway. His animations, what little you can see of them, are really neat too. Thats why I really prefer Severus, my black Jormungar, over this see-through one. You can't really appreciate this little gem the way he is now. He is TOO transparent in my opinion. I had to hover over him with my mouse to get enough visible shots of him, even. I did abandon Maboroshi after this. We just didn't click, despite my annoying quest grind to get to revered just to tame him. So now I have one free slot and can back to random rolls again, for now. Until I find another special pet to click with.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

Unread post by Kalhoun »

Okie dokie... my challenge this time around was the green corehound. Now, I have a long history with this mob. When I first saw them in Shadowmoon Valley back in BC, I wanted to tame one. It was either before they were finally made tameable, or shortly after, I drew this fan art. The green corehounds in Shadowmoon and the red ones in Molten Core were the only corehounds available for a while, and so when I think "corehound" I think of these guys. When corehounds as a Beast family finally made it to Live, I eagerly ran to Shadowmoon to tame one... only to find a bunch of jerks killing every corehound they saw in an effort to grief Hunters. I managed to grab one just as it spawned (and before a griefer could kill it), and thus finally had my very own Snuggles.

Fast forward to now, and a green corehound is usually in my stables. I had cleared him out lately for one of my taming sprees, so I needed to go back to Shadowmoon and get him again. I went after the biggest one around: Uvuros. Note how tiny the heart-squirting Hunter is!

Image

I named my new buddy Slobbers (I have a fuzzy worm named Snuggie, and I didn't want similar names). And what a slobbery boy he is! When these guys were first made tamable, their drool effect was actually a lot more subtle. At some point it got bigger, and more.... globby. They also make firey noises from the flame effect on their backs. It doesn't bother me, since I usually have music or the TV going on for background noise - I hardly ever notice it.

Image

One of their abilities is Lava Breath, and it has a nice fire effect. It slows the casting speed of your enemies - pretty handy for some encounters (but not for the mobs I was fighting at the time of this screenshot). They also have a Blood Lust/Heroism ability called Ancient Hysteria, and I don't really think I need to prove what an awesome ability that is. Let's just say, Millhouse in my solo Stone Core run died (by "died" I mean... ran away. lol so used to saying "died" for bosses) REALLY FAST.

Image

No Slobbers, no buttery wheat roll for you. It's people food. You don't like people food, trust me.

Image

This type of corehound model leaves a firey trail when they run. Unfortunately, they also leave a trail of drool splatter! EWW!

Image

You see nothing, Mr. giant elemental dude guy!

Image

They also have a howling animation, but it has no sound effect. I like to think of it as more of a "gargling" animation, what with all that slobbering going on.

Image

A better pic of Slobber's profile - look at that pot belly.

Image

And a close up of his faces.

Image

So yeah... I love green corehounds, and I usually have one. Slobbers will be sticking around for a while. He isn't for everyone, and there's much prettier corehounds available to tame (I also have the white, wolf-like Corehound, The Kurken, and I love him to pieces). I'm just attached to this model because of nostalgia. I've always been a fan of big, ugly monsters anyways. :)
