If you're on Vista/Windows 7 it's usually under your Progams (x86) folder. The folder's listed as RIFT Game.

Right, got an account all paid for and stuff now. Had to make a new account though, so new character: Zat. Tyger, think I could get an invite to that guild of yours', or is it closed?

You can make solo'ing more challenging very easily without making it a replacement for grouping though. This is not black/white.

Method 1. There are a ton of solo chains that end with a blue reward yet never require the player to do any hard combat. You can easily end up with a bunch of blues this way, stuff that puggers actually have to work for... this to me is ridiculous. Change the end fight to a [2 player] / [3 player] / etc quest a la the quest chains in Nagrand - now solo'ers can get a challenge appropriate for the reward, and loot tables haven't been changed. This doesn't give solo'ers anything better but simply requires them to put in the work for blue rewards, which I'm fine with. I hate feeling like something's just been handed to me.

Method 2. Every zone gets a solo instance. These are 1/3 to 1/2 the size of normal dungeons whose occupants start with same ilvl as the player and can be ratcheted up by players looking for a harder challenge. Loot would be appropriate for elites e.g. somewhat better than outdoor stuff, but other than that nothing great combatwise; instead, boss drops would be "flavor items", and more importantly there would be "solo points" awarded; there would then be 1 piece in each JP set that could be bought with either currency. This would be the one really tangible reward for solo instances - people who prefer pugging would continue to be able to get everything they want with JPs whilst solo'ers could get one piece - a nice incentive for them to then group for the remainder. The real benefit of solo dungeons though imo would be 1) a way to test your limits and expand them 2) useful training for pugs - I've seen so many wipes that could have been avoided if certain players knew what to do without a tank holding aggro every second.

Etc.

Every now and then you see something in an MMORPG that is not only cool in and of itself but is so good that it becomes part of the fabric of (most if not all) MMORPGs to come. This is why when people say Rifts is alot like wow in some ways, it doesn't concern me - because that may mean nothing more than that Rifts preserved the good things.

While I think they missed some things with Rangers (and you can't please everybody all the time, obviously), other things strike me as evolutionary leaps in MMORPG growth, such as the flexibility to reinvent one's self as a tank or healer in a shortage situation (or conversely to change into a suit of "solo'ing clothes" when you want to relax between dungeons).

In re: solo difficulty, I was just curious is all - as long as its solo game is no worse than wow (it sounds like the solo game at Rifts is at least as good), Rifts doesn't have to be the game to expand this feature, to still hold up as a decent game.

I'll check with my friend; he's basically the GM so it shouldn't be too much of a problem I don't think.

Originally I had my doubt about Trion's ability to properly maintain anything like this, seeing as how it's their first time. I am PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. This is something that no other MMO to date can compete with, absolutely amazing customer service.

To their benefit, RIFT is their main, focus I believe whereas Blizzard has dozens of other products to maintain. It almost feels like Blizzard might be starting to distance themselves, but, I'm not sure I would really know since my time with WoW was fairly short compared to some people's.

Thats how I felt.. Kind of like Cataclysm was half-tossed together. Truthfully I dont think they really are trying as hard as they used to anymore. They are working on that top-secret MMO they have in the works and I've got a feeling most of their focus will go towards it. Now I used to love WoW but when I got told by a GM that I couldnt have an item given to me THAT I WON and didnt go into my bags..wasnt on the boss.. I had empty spaces..etc and they tell me they cant because their game screwed up? I have a little problem with that. However I do love that Rift is introducing all of these things it took WoW tons of time to put in. WoW was fun for me while it lasted and I still love my characters I know I've made on there but... It just wasnt the same anymore.

The GMs used to be overall friendlier (I haven't gotten' a GM joke in ages!) and customer support as a whole was quicker. Budget cuts, I would presume. Either way, the change was rather small. There were bad GMs in vanilla, just as there are bad GMs now. It just seems they're more stressed now, or perhaps discipline has increased (*Feels bad for cubicle GMs.*). Either way, Blizz never really could compete with most companies in terms of customer support. It was never a priority.

And yes, Cata is one of the most rushed expansions I have ever seen, for any game whatsoever. Half of it didn't work when it was released and the rest was buggy. Also female worgen.

Meh, wolves don't have any sexual dimorphism like that, why would a werewolf? But yeah, I can agree with maybe something like that. But putting breasts on it and calling it female is just a bad idea, since humans are the only animals I know of with breasts that protrude like that. Ah, I don't know how to phrase it, but I hate it when male werewolves are huge and muscular and female werewolves are slender with boobs and slimmer faces. It just looks stupid to me.

Meh, discussion about Rift turns into discussion about how werewolves should look. Typical.

In my brief time with WoW, I only ever had a couple of GMs I can think of that just gave me some copy-paste crap that didn't really solve my problem whatsoever.

And I've gotten a GM joke every time I have asked for one. :) Most recently I had a totally kick ass GM who was super friendly to me and tried really hard to help me with a quest line that totally bugged in Razor Hill. It was one of the neatest experiences I've had with their customer service.

Let's see if I can dig up my screenshot of the joke he gave me and me getting the answer right; ended up being pretty funny.
Pardon the ugliness of it, I'm too lazy to edit it.
Image

Anyway, I feel more like the higher ups of WoW care less and less about their game (despite what they say) because they've sat so long at the top of the market. It allows them to be complacent. They need some good quality MMOs to come out and give them some real good competition. The subscribers levels don't need to reach WoW's to be successful either, a lot of people forget that.

And since this is a Rift thread, have a pic of my Bahmi warrior. :P

Anyway. I want to get Rift on a PC, just to try it, at least. It looks really fun.
