Do we know yet if They will let us re-create our character's looks for free when this come out? I imagine some people will want to update their face/skin, options if the replacement models their existing characters get upon login don't click with them.

As far as I have read, they haven't decided on that yet. It's a no for now, but they say it might change. At least that's how I understood it.

But I really hope they will let us. :)

I'll be waiting on the highland, with its wonderful serenity.
Where the stars glow and the brooks flow, that's my way of life.
When the mountains on the highland, and the nature is surrounding me, when the wind blows, that's all I need.

They definitely should. Hopefully, if all goes as I hope it will, all the faces, hair styles, etc. will be the same, just... upgraded. But even so, it'd be nice to have one free character update in case we want to pick a new face or something. So excited to see undead femalessss~

I could see them doing it for a limited time a thing where you could change their looks.

I think it's unlikely that they'll make it free. However they might do half-price character services (switching races/recusts/facswaps) again like they did not so long ago. Blizzard giving people paid services for free isn't something they've been known to do, but they HAVE done the half-price sale before, so I think it's more than possible the offer will return.

I think they probably want to prevent the mass changes 'free' would cause, since there's a certain amount of server load involved with character changes, and having the entire millions-of-people in WoW all doing it basically at once could very well crash the servers, and imagine how much stink there'd be if that happened and people either ended up with the wrong recust or even lost it because the servers hiccuped at the wrong time? At least if it's half price, it won't ruin you if you hate it, and if you don't hate it, you'll probably just leave it be instead of changing for shits and giggles even though you like/don't mind your new look.

someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

They haven't done remodels of playable characters either so lets not think they're so stingy. ;)

There's always the barber shop. They could totally redo it so you can change EVERYTHING in it! ;D
At least for a limited time.

Siggy under construction!

I really hope they go for a limited time free window or a "character created before xxx/ charters lvl xx+ get a free recustomization." approach since I can imagine there will be a lot of people who wont like the updated skin they get stuck with and will want to tweak it. There are also plenty of people who chose to go the "lesser of two evils" route when it comes to faces; not liking their options and just picking the one they hated the least. with the higher def faces I imagine those people would want to go through their options again.

They are giving us 1 free of a insta-90 for buying WoD, a service that I preassume would go to the shop if they spread it beyond China, so why not give us, let's say, 5 free of char recustomisation for a copy of WoD?

I could imagine them doing a limited time thing with the barber shop as Bowno said where it is like a full character customization that you'd see on the char screen so you have skin and face options ontop of the existing ones and for that window of time, maybe a reduced amount of gold or outright free. Since they do charge for char re-customization ($10 iirc?) I can see them only doing this for characters that are say, lvl 20+. Having re-customization in the same way that we currently have it would indeed be really hard on the system if everyone was doing it, even if it was one server at a time (we'd probably make it through the entire WoD expac by the time they were done server-to-server services since there has to be a reasonable window to keep active, playing customers and those who rejoin shortly after release happy).

Paying any sort of real money fee would probably cause an outrage since they messed with the characters without giving us anything in compensation. And the fact that there are people with 30, 40+ characters, and people with multiple accounts containing another 30, 40+ char's, it's really going to add up FAST if they aren't happy with what their char's look like after the change. I'm not playing WoW atm, probably won't come back till release, but (and I know the info only -just- came out), if we don't end up getting something in return, free or in-game currency complete customization, or at the very least like, 10-20 'charges' we can use on our characters to change them if we aren't happy, then I proooobably won't return since I'm rather touchy with my char's and I ain't gonna pay them for something I didn't do. Again though, we only -just- found out so there's a whole ton of stuff to come out yet and be sorted out so I'm just sittin' back and relaxing till the info is released to the public (and even then of course, till it's set in stone I'll just mull it around)

I have 15 level 90s, and an assortment of higher level characters between 50-60 at the moment. Lowbies I can always delete and recreate, even the characters that are mid-level I can do that to, although I'd rather not since they will be much closer to 90 when the game comes out. And the way my characters look is ridiculously important to me. I am known to spend hours deciding on a character's appearance, and testing the right combos that work for me. I have deleted characters because their face and skin combination suddenly didn't work for me anymore. And this includes characters as high level as in their 70s and 80s. I have fallen in love with characters I thought I hated, simply by changing their hair. So, if Blizzard do not allow us free customizations and I feel uncomfortable with the new look on my level 90s, I will likely end up deleting most of them. Because I cannot afford even half-price changes for all of them. And if I have to delete them, it is very unlikely that I would continue playing the game.

I don't want to jump on the I'LL QUIT THE GAME IF NOBODY DOES WHAT I WANT bandwagon, but I am very, very worried about this.

Well only silly people jump on that bandwagon. The "let's wait it out and see" bandwagon is much better! ;)

I wouldn't worry too much. Blizzard isn't Microsoft. They aren't known for shooting themselves in the foot.

*cough* crossrealms! Christmas sales that end before Christmas!*cough* ;)

joking aside, I think Mozag and Shalyth illustrate my own points and concerns perfectly. People spend hours getting their character to look and feel just right. Its important to them. I am nervous about this since we just don't "know" yet what will happen and if Blizz decides to get greedy things can get messy fast. But I am definitely on the "wait and see" bandwagon. Even if they want to charge for character customization when we get the new models I doubt they would refuse to change their minds after listening to player feedback. They have already stressed that they are trying to keep the new models appearance close to the old models because they know how attached people get to their toon's and want to make the change a smooth one.

I honestly wish they'd get rid of the paid character customisation feature altogether and put the stuff that's exclusive to it into the barber shop. If tauren can change the length and size of their horns at will, I don't see why being able to change my skin colour for free is such a big deal. It's a stupid, rip-off feature that reaks of Activision's influence. I'm okay paying for character transfers, name changes, race changes and all that. But to change the shade of my character's skin? Uh, no thanks.

However, I'm also with people in saying that despite being excited to see the undead females, I'm also nervous. I've become very, very attached to how my girl looks and could never see her with another hair style, face, or anything. So I hope she looks the same... but shinier.

I still do not have the achievement for visiting the barber shop on any of my toons. The new character models look nice but I'm satisfied with the old ones. If the new ones come at too high a price in system performance to render them, then I'm against them.
