Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Regarding displaying models divided by their "subtypes" (I call them morphs):
I have a basic version working for Bakars (and no other) in this test version of the Dragonflight page. See:
https://www.wow-petopia.com/dragonfligh ... mod_bakars
I haven't formatted the subheading yet. I'll probably keep it fairly simple but will format it a little.
What do you think so far? I think it's a pretty simple way of displaying different model variations without making it more complicated to read.
I just have to add morphs for everything else that may warrant it, and get the same code working in regular family pages and galleries.

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Thanks all for your feedback! I'm glad you like it
I've gone ahead and implemented the change for the Dragonflight model guide.
For example, see: https://www.wow-petopia.com/dragonfligh ... agmammoths
Next, I'll get it working on regular family pages. I haven't touched pre-Dragonflight models yet, as it takes a lot of work, but I'll get to them.
I'm also considering of using it where there are saddled and unsaddled versions of the same model. Currently, we display them as separate models, but they could be merged as different morphs under the same heading.

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
The morph code is now implemented on family pages, as well. E.g.: https://www.wow-petopia.com/family.php?id=mammoth
But still only for DF models and cervids (which I used as a test case).

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
I suggest many of the models that have variants should have their own categories, for example
-lupines, armored and without
-boars, armored and without
-runestags, horn variants
-Argus talbuks, horn variants
-Stags, patterns and without
-vombatas, different crest variants
-raptoras, armored and without
You don’t have to do that, but it’s a suggestion

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Sad there's no pink version of the new tallstrider.
I like the new layout of the Magmammoths.
If you need my help locating anything on alpha, lemme know Wain. I think it's just you and me on alpha here atm.

Actually, I have some good news for you!
There's a new tallstrider skin in this build, but I don't think it's been used yet...

Just leaving this here as a record...
A texture change for the new mammoth model in this patch is strange and worrying. I don't understand it and I wonder if these textures were overwritten with bad versions by accident.
Essentially, someone has taken ALL the new mammoth2 skin textures and done a seemingly clumsy Instagram-style airbrush on them. All the details have been wiped away, like someone trying to erase wrinkles, and the colours and brightness were removed at the same time. As an example, see the before and after image for the orange mammoth textures below. The before skin is on the left:

This is vandalism. Nobody with any sense of art would consider this a good thing. Whatever intern is responsible for this needs to be fired. It's not on the level of the infamous Monkey Jesus incident, but boy is it on that slippery slope that leads to it.Wain wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 10:30 am Just leaving this here as a record...

Also, I'm on the alpha now. That's unexpected since I'm unsubbed and haven't played in three months. Time to form my own objective opinion on unfinished content!
EDIT: I made a quick animation of the comparison for those who may have trouble seeing the smaller differences with a side by side view. My god it's horrible.

Sweet. Now let's get them to put a pink aura on them and make it our Spirit Beast for DF. Haha.
Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Update on the mammoth texture: I've had feedback that it will be fixed. It sounds like it wasn't intended!

Let's talk ducks for a moment. They are LOUD when they're idle, quacking at the same volume regardless of distance from the player. It's perfectly annoying, and I hope it remains like that. Ducks in real life only have two volume settings; shut up and not shut up, and it's accurately depicted in the alpha.

We need mechanical dragons to be tameable In this expansion, if they’re mechanical it doesn’t matter what it is
