I'm pretty sure that Loque'nahak stole the spotlight there, even for latecomers like myself. You were far more likely to run across a tame Loque than any other spirit beast, and news on the new spirit beasts each major patch was rather slow (outside of Petopia). There was also more drama around Loque'nahak, arguably, due to the Frostbitten achievement.

Just drawing from my recollections; learned about Loque'nahak far earlier than any other spirit beast.

For people either well informed or from Vanilla: Humar and Brokentooth
For Wrath people: Loque'nahak and Skoll
For the newbie Cata people: Sambas and Madexx

I am on Alleria and as of right now Sambas is really popular pet, but I was wondering of all the severs which named rare or non rare is the most fought for pet buy hunters since WoW first came on-line. Or also is there any tamables that you just don’t like.

That...really, really depends. There've been so many changes to pets over the years that the popularity of this or that pet has risen or fallen with time.

For Drenden, even though it's been around a looooong time (according to my former roommates since it was the first and only server they ever played on) I'd have to say the most people know who Loque is. Granted I'm a wrath baby but I didn't know any of the previously popular old world rares until I started reading the petopia forums just before the shattering. And Sambas is the more popular cata rare; however, I still get a LOT of people who don't know what it is. To be honest, the hunter population on Drenden is pretty clueless when it comes to rares, so I have found out the hard way.

King Bangladash, Humar, Loque'nahak. That's pretty much it. Here we have major Madexx-Sambas-Karoma-Terrorpene madness but non-hunters know one of these three names. Two vanilla and one Wrath. Poor TBC didn't really have an "illustrous" pet... :/

Wouldn't that have been the Grimtotem Spirit Guide? xD And at least on my server Ironjaw was really popular.

On topic: Humar for hunters, clothies and hunters would know Broken tooth. King B was up there to, and Rak'shiri.

Other pets that had their time in the spotlight was Snarler, AV frost wolves who made takk look like an old lady. (or man)
Lupos and Deathmaw was also pretty darned popular back in vanilla.

For Wrath, Loque by a long shot. The other spirit beasts should be meantioned, but Loque was the one everyone wanted whether it was to tame or kill for the frostbitten achievement.

Cata? Sambas and Karoma. Seems no one really knows anything on madexx... Even a lot of hunters on my server >> GC has an honorable mention to.

I'm going to throw in a new contender.

Zaricotl.

If ANYONE is infamous, it's that bird. He was practically always up, just watching you. A good 15 levels bigger, and an elite to boot, he was the first fel reaver. Devilsaur had nothing on him. At least around that time, a devilsaur was a proper level.

But back then, you, a little 30, versus a level 55 elite bird? Ha, very funny. I hated that red carrion bird with a passion. I would see if he was there, and then run off. When I had a higher level char, I'd spy him, run alllll the way down, kill him, dance on his corpse, log, relog, and dance on his corpse again.

My guess would be that Loque'nahak is the pet most people, hunters and non-hunters alike, really know. He was the first, and for some time only, spirit beast. The first really "flashy" pet, which means he stood out even to people who really don't care about pets. He's a requirement for Frostbitten and linked to Harkoa who has a major quest line in Zul'Drak. I really don't think there are many people who don't know him.

Back in Vanilla Brokentooth and King B were among the most important pets, but did non-hunters really know them? I mean sure, casters hated "that cat" but did they know his name and where he came from? I don't think so. Humar has always been popular with hunters, but non-hunters would not even meet him in the wild. Now Sambas and Karoma may be popular among hunters, but again, how much do non-hunters care?

Though I'm sure that Zaricotl has left a special impression on anyone who ever quested in the Badlands. :P

Humar

Even before I played much on my hunter (first toon I made) when my main was my warrior I would hunt down rares and he was on my list. Sadly I camped the wrong tree for MONTHS for him (the one closer to Ratchet >.<) I kicked myself when I thottboted his right location. Then again I came in during TBC myself and I think the person that stated that Outlands had few standout pets was right and the vanilla ones where still the go to pets.

I know each of my hunters always gets both Humar and Echey when they are the right lvls. (yep even my ally has him from the horde quest :D)

I think most ppl know who Humar is and second to him is Loque. though my realm is dumb with a capital D when it comes to info you have to leave WoW to look up and the few that know are less then chatty as to keep less ppl from camping 'THEIR' rare.

Also many ppl are not around from vanilla so they don't know about the old pets like OCJ, King B, Agara or w/e was the must have before getting normalized. Hell many don't recall having to hunt pets down to get certain skills/lvls. Sometimes I think ppl that play now have no idea what it use to mean to play WoW now that it is on EZ mode.

But Yeah I'd say new or old most ppl would know Humar and Loque by look and maybe name. *shrugs*

When I started playing at launch and people were talking about Humar I automatically figured that they had played Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast (the human class was called Humar).

It took a couple of months before I asked (or looked up... I don't remember) someone about this 'Humar'.

I need more hunters, IMO.

I have to admit, most non-hunters don't seem to remember (or care) about named rares in general, unless they've got a hunter friend repeatedly reminding them of it (my GM started asking me whenever he saw me how my Madexx hunt was going XD).

...I can't believe I forgot Zaricotl!!! Yes, my choice just changed from Loque'nahak to Zaricotl. The other pets? You hear of them via word-of-mouth. Zaricotl? That buzzard would up and introduce himself, and in a memorably unique fashion (that emote of his made me laugh the first time I saw it). Kinda nostalgic for the old Zaricotl, but at least he got a unique skin that makes him look dangerously crazy.

Throwing my vote in for Zaricotl and/or Humar.

Loque is flashy and all, but I didn't really know about him until I unceremoniously murdered him and had five people yell at me in whispers. I didn't realize he was tameable and even if he had been, I thought he was ugly. :P That was when I was, what, 80? I didn't spend a lot of time in Dalaran and the pet I saw the most running around was probably Humar and/or Pitch. Later on I saw a great deal of white, black and grey Northrend worgs and green/red devilsaurs.
