As I said, I camp rares. I just don't like it very much. I feel like whoever wrote that comment, that it's pointless and rather silly. I don't like the way he put it however. To me, rares are kind of meaningless, they don't bring anything really special, other than a unique skin. I wouldn't waste a slot on Gondria if I didn't love her so much.
Most people who play in my raiding guild wouldn't really call me an elitist, but they most likely wouldn't call me casual either. Was in an ICC on Stereo last night. GS a bit low, but I was pulling my weigth. I spot the other hunters pet. A gorilla. He's running around with this awful BM spec, wasting points on all kinds of bad talents. Massive GS, but he doesn't do any damage at all. I decided to be kind and whispered him "Hey, you might want to consider looking over your spec and getting another pet...". "mind your own damn business!" is the reply I get, and at that point I'm kicked. I told the RL how to play. Bad choice.

Let's just put me in the middle of you "zomg rare!" guys and the "zomg play cookiecutter!" guys. I don't fully agree with either.

So, you do realize that, if you had spent those seven days trying to get better at your class, instead of camping for something useless(=what you were doing), it would've been so much more effective.

I'm actually on that guys side a bit. Rares are rather pointless. Fun for sure, but rather pointless. Raids during that timeframe would most likely have landed him with better gear. I hate rarecamping myself, I feel like I could be doing much better things. Having a nice pet for dailies/showing off in town is nice tough. Still, the point of rarecamping isn't the topic, it's the killing/extortion. Which is bad. Really bad.

When my Gondria (server second spawn or something) spawned, I was exalted. Until a mage swooped down, killed it, and said "respec and go raid idiot". I found a nice use for my Dwarf at that point. Dressed him up in a frayed robe and chased the mage around while flirting and kissing. I think he got the point in the end.

you must have missed that only 3pcs of gear are not gemmed right? out of 16pcs you wear.. Now considering everything that toon is wearing is about to get changed out why should I go spend 1k+ gold for gems that will be destroyed in a week anyways?

Secondly I dont know spec? you do understand this pet can only be tamed by BM spec with Exotic right?

you say gear but on our server unless you have 5200gs your not raiding sh**. that includes ToC10/25/Ony/VOA/OS. so anything ABOVE randoms and the marrowgwar weekly are completely out of the question.

Given the current rate of 2 frost badges a day with hunter t10 gear badge rates of 60-95 badges a piece and now lets do our math..

2 frost a day x 30 = 60 badges a 30 day month = 1 pc t10 a month.
+5-10 badges for non ICC weekly = 65 badges a month and still 1pc t10
that still makes you under 5200gs without being able to raid ANYTHING on your server and only having randoms to do for 200-239ilvl loot.

Now given you need 5200gs to raid anything on our server thats roughly 4 months from 80 till you can raid. unless it is guild run.

now t10.5 = you
on our server realistically you wont get unless youve been in icc, considering my old guild I just left 9 days ago never had enough to raid anything and never pugged means I am just starting to raid again with a new guild, thats not the issue and lets get back to badges and my time spent camping a mob to tame as a hunter...

2 frost badges a day = only way to get gear better than t9 on our server.. Am I supposed to get my 2 badges a day and do what?? isnt that my choice? the nature of the game?

I do my 2 frost badge run daily on multiple 80s then spend time hunting for this tameable pet that you are flaming me over and that I spent my time worthlessly. When in actuality waiting for a mob when not busy is better than stading in dal or whatever you do waiting for tommorow so you can do your next 2 badge run. Now considering I have 3 80's all with around 59 frost badges and 60 BoT's each I'd say I spend my time effectivly and your blowing smoke out your a** for the sake of hearing yourself shoot salad.

Make sense? Does to me.

Yeah, I understand that. I have no issues with you not being obsessed over rares, it was more the fact that people think they can argue what others should place priority on when everyone has their own specific loves and ambitions in the game.

Oops. Guess I should have read the whole thing. Regardless, if I do camp a rare, I usually keep feeling that I could be doing something better, be it dailies, old raids, heck, even battlegrounds. And I hate battlegrounds on my hunters.

And gearing a new character without a guild is pretty much what he said, slow. You'll be stuck doing the daily random for a few months. Currently gearing Stereo, whom I'm trying to be more of a "pethunter" with. Still, I just don't feel like camping for the spirit beasties, just because I know fully well that I'm never going to use them other than showing off in Dala. Which is why I only have one. And now that Stereo is pretty much stuck for another week (And then an additional week while I go on a pointless vacation I don't want to go on), I play alts. I know, you guys disagree. I can certainly see why my elitist attitude would not fit in on these forums. Still, I'm happy for you camping maniacs (:P), because I pretty much want everyone to have fun. I would never tell anyone "dont camp rares, its stupid", because I can understand why. YOu need to be happy with your character, and part of your character is that little guy to your left. My characters usually involve getting good gear, doing good damage, with the favourite skin of the "pet of the week" pet. If your character involves that "bond" between hunter and pet, go for it. I'd do it too, if my ego about DPS-meters was smaller.

Also, rarecamping for me involves doing a flyover the spawn points every hour. I just can't bring myself to sit down and minimize WoW.

I've had Arc stolen from me two times before.

First time was Alli, okay so I was pissed and got over it.

Next time, I wasn't so nice. Freaking BOT kills him (had no pet, only used AUTO SHOT to tag him) and then proceeded to whack him down with auto attack.
WTF.

Next person who steals him from he is gonna get ripped a new one (as in, I will personally make an alli character if an alliance does it, name it fyou, and bitch them out till they block me).

Oooooh Harpier, I hope you don't. Think of it this way. They just stole the pet you've been camping for a long time. Now they get to report you and have you temp banned for harassment? That would literally be asking them to kick you while you're down.

My stance on these things, to be honest, is that we need to keep reporting it. There's a huge problem with the taming process. In theory it's perfect, but in reality WoW is too full of people that have no qualms about being downright assholes about these things, for no other reason than they can. The more people alert Blizz to that aspect (which I guarantee is not part of their design "plan"), the sooner Blizz will start considering how large a part of their player base find this to be a frustrating and unnecessary part of their game.

In the thread linked, Lithdran from Illidan writes,

Blizzard should change the taming process to something like; once you hit the Taming button, the target pet should become friendly to all other players and anyone will be unable to attack it. However if you break the taming process that pet is fair game.

That sounds like a very reasonable solution. I hope Blizzard listens.
