If I am sitting and someone else shows up AFTER I am already there:
a) And they're my faction/I'm on a non-PvP server: I'm likely to just ignore them. They're the one stacking. This is the bad sort of situation that tends to lead to the pet ending up dead, but more often than not, the spawn doesn't happen when they're there.
b) And they're opposite faction on a PvP server: I usually won't be aggressive unless they actively try to fight me for the spot (which they usually do, since PvP servers tend to encourage that), in which case, I will kill them as many times as necessary to defend my territory, since I was there first. If I'm outmatched, either due to gear or their reinforcements, only then will I leave.
If I log in, and someone is there before me: I leave, often with a /luck.
If I log in, and begin taming: By all rights, it should be mine, but on a PvP server, I know better than to let my guard down until after the pet is mine. (This leads into the scenario two below this)
If I log in, begin taming, and die: Technically, it's fair game, though obviously, if someone sees my corpse and waits for me to res, heal, and tame, I'd be eternally grateful. However, I would never expect someone to do that.
If I am taming and someone tries to take it from me:
a) And they're my faction: They're going to get an earful on hunter etiquette if they don't back off. That's just rude.
b) And they're opposite faction on a non-PvP server: They can expect a couple of dirty emotes tossed their way if they don't back off. I can't tell them off, and I'd rather see less competition. If the pet doesn't kill them and wants to go home with a jackass, then they're not a pet I would want anyway. I'll catch the next spawn.
c) And they're opposite faction on a PvP server: I'm going to do my damnedest to kill them before they tame the pet or kill me. If I fail, but I res before it's too late, I'll try again. After that, see option b. If I succeed, hopefully I'll have the time to heal/tame before they res and try again.
If I log in and someone else is already taming it: I'll /cheer or /grats them and note the time before running off to do something else or relog, depending on the character.

If I am sitting and someone else shows up AFTER I am already there: I'm likely to pull out and let you have the spot to yourself. Good luck!
If I log in, and someone is there before me: It's yours. Grats!
If I log in, and begin taming: Realistically it's not mine until the name turns blue, but it should be mine.
If I log in, begin taming, and die: It's fair game for everyone else, but if I'm alone I'll try again. No skin off my nose if you get to it before I do.
If I am taming and someone tries to take it from me: Let you have it. Note the time, toss you a halfhearted /congrats and get on with my life. Less competition.
If I log in and someone else is already taming it: Note the time, toss you a /cheer and go take a nap.
I'm not very confrontational. I don't have the patience for camping, so someone else showing up is just an excuse for me to get out of that hellhole of monotony.

'Tis why she's my favorite Pony. :) The only way we could be more alike is if I grew wings and she started pulling all-nighters to work on paintings.

This is the bad sort of situation that tends to lead to the pet ending up dead, but more often than not, the spawn doesn't happen when they're there. - Gonna go with this. I might get a little jumpier or paranoid, but it's my spot dangit. I'm tempted to /shoo at them but eh.
b) And they're opposite faction on a PvP server: Depends. If they're nice, I might just chill. If they're aggressive? It's on like Donkey Kong.
If I log in, and someone is there before me: Depends on the person/spawn. If it's a shared spawn and we're after the different mobs/colors? Groovy. I usually kind of just go AFK and chill or run around.
If I log in, and begin taming: It's mine. I almost always tag my tames unless the challenge is prohibitive of doing such.
If I log in, begin taming, and die: It's their turn. As much as it pains me. If they let me go again? Awesome. I'm gonna go again!
If I am taming and someone tries to take it from me:
1) If it's my own faction? I'm gonna rail them out or go 'DUDE. WTF? It's tagged, back the frick off'. I'd at least try to get aggro back so I can finish my tame.
2) If it's the opposite faction? Depends on if they are flagged. I'll crowd control them if they are. If not, I'll use scare beast and try to pull aggro back.
If it ends in a dead rare, I'll be sad, angry and frustrated but. I'm not likely to just give up on something I'm trying for. I'm very stubborn.
For better or worse. It just miffs me that someone might profit from my loss like that. If they win out, oh well. I'm a grumpasaurus.
