I agree with most of the points raised by Ari on the first page.
To some extent, the guild master position in a guild like this is just a figurehead - so long as the officers pick up the slack.
Guild events can and should be run by whoever wants to do them.
I have run a guild with quite a similar family/casual environment for 5 years now. Delegation to a sensible officer group has been key to our success. Dispute resolution has been handled by what I call the "rule of three" - any contentious issue (eg kicking someone from guild for misbehaviour) needs at least three officers to agree, or a 3/5ths majority if more than a few are on at the time. The GM just counts as another officer.
However, an active and involved guild master who is online at least a few times each week at peak time is pretty necessary for continued morale.
I'd like to say Thankyou to Ryno for his leadership and enthusiasm, which are a large part of making Petopians guild the place we know and love.
