Re: Greener Pastures...
Part 11 :
I finally got Nyya off of me though it took considerable effort to do so. She has never acted so strange before. My father and I have taken many trips like the one to the Barrens earlier. Nyya has never broken free of the tribes stables and come directly to me like this. Even now she refuses to leave my side as if protecting me from some unseen threat. Truthfully her behavior is beginning to unnerve me somewhat. On a lighter note, Nyya seems to have instantly taken to my mother. I guess, like Cairne, she can see what’s on the inside. If I had needed any other proof, Nyya’s instincts are always rock solid.
Cairne came back an hour ago. He seemed unsettled though and has quietly been issuing orders to the guards around the bluff. Rumor has it he has even sent a message by Wyvern across the Barrens. No one knows what the old tauren is up too, but I also trust Cairne’s instincts without question. Especially after the events of today.
I plan on trying to convince my mother to stay at Thunderbluff. At least until we can figure out what’s best for her. I really want to get to know her better and this is my chance. I think Cairne will agree to my idea.
As I sit thinking about my new life I don’t notice the dark clouds swirling over the bluff until someone points them out in fear. As I peer up into the sky my senses tell me that the storm is not a natural occurrence. Even now the clouds churn darker and thrash about with an unearthly rhythm. Merchants are clearing their tables and fleeing for the shelters. Suddenly a thought snaps into focus in my mind. I jump up and startle Nyya. She instantly senses the growing maelstrom above us and growls up at it. I don’t have time to calm Nyya though I cannot find her and break into a frantic run. “ Mother!!! “ Nyya takes one last look up at the clouds then gallops off right behind me.
As I run up the ramp to find Cairne a bolt of lightening explodes down from the sky connecting with the bluff. The entire plateau shudders and it’s then that I see her. My mother is standing frozen in place in the middle of the open ground staring straight up into the heavens. I can plainly see the sheer terror on her face and that scares me. It was the same look on my father’s face when he saw me wounded out in the Barrens. I never wanted to see such a thing ever again.
I scream with all my might for my mother to move, but she cannot hear me over the winds mounting turmoil. At my side Nyya suddenly roars. Never before have I heard it as loud as now. She crouches low and moves around in front of me roaring louder still. She is drawing a line before me, one that she’ll die for. I do not understand what is happening this day!
From nowhere a powerful presence is beside me. I spin around to find Cairne standing grimly looking skyward. He hands me a bow and quiver. “ Take this Hunter of the Grimhoof! “ He strides forward unafraid of the hurricane force winds ahead. Even as they boil around us I can clearly hear his deep voice booming back to me. “ The bows name is Wind Tamer ! “ I watch him push onward towards my mother.

Re: Greener Pastures...
Part 12 :
I watch in mute horror as I finally make out what force is causing the destruction of my homeland. Floating high above the bluff is a Blood Elf. His features are twisted and dark and purple energies flow around him streaming into the clouds. His magic seems to infect the sky with an evil poison bent on chaos.
He seems to be staring directly at my mother just as Cairne reaches her. The massive Tauren simply scoops her up never halting his stride towards the great lodge, but the monster in the sky has other plans. Wicked purple lightening races down hitting the ground in front of Cairne. The aging Tauren cradles my mother tightly against his torso as he impacts the ground several yards away. The force of the blow echoes across the bluff and I fear for my chiefs very life, but as I watch somehow he begins to rise.
The powerful blow seems to wake my mother from her daze and her features turn to rage. Her clenched fists pump into the air as she shouts. “ Leave this place! There is nothing for you here! “
I see the monster spread his arms wide and I know what will follow. It is now my turn to distract this insidious abomination threatening my home. I draw the powerful bow back with all my strength and loose an arrow. True to Cairne’s word, Wind Tamer’s arrow never wavers. It slams home in the fiends shoulder. I nock another arrow determined to send this vile creature swiftly from this world into the next when his gaze falls upon me. I see a strange realization dawn on his hideous features and the winds strike the bluff with redoubled intensity.
Suddenly I am airborne. I feel the ground fall away beneath me as I soar skyward. Wind Tamer drops from my grasp as I see Nyya roaring wildly below. Then he looms before me. The monster himself. His body has been so warped by the foul energies he lusts for that it is hardly recognizable, but skeletal hands reach out to grasp me. Their strength is immense for such frail looking limbs and I cry out. A wicked smile spreads slowly across his mouth exposing filth and decay. His breath gags me as his withered voice reaches me. “ The nexus! I thought you dead along with your wretched mother! The witch was wise to conceal your presence from me, but no longer! “ His face erupts with accursed laughter. “ Yes!!! I came looking for the slave and found the key! “ His grin seemed to widen impossibly large threatening to split his entire face. “ With the nexus I can summon the lord master of all..!!! “
We rise higher and ever higher above my beloved homelands. Thunderbluff is but a spec below us now as the monster that sired me goes completely mad. “ Child of darkness! You hold the power and key to unlocking my masters prison forever!!! I made sure you would house the vilest of all black magic’s combined from both your mother and I.!!! You are the nexus!!! “ The laughter was driving her insane, but she held on. Thoughts of her father sprang to life in her mind. His voice echoed inside her mind soothing her. His powerful heartbeat caressed her spirit calming her completely. She opened her eyes locking eyes with the monstrosity before her just as he cast a spell and reached directly into her chest.
After a moment his face contorted in unmitigated agony. “ Impossible!!! “ His wail split the heavens. The storm grew into a whirlwind spinning ever faster rending the very sky itself. Again he thrust his hand into his daughters chest and again wailed in fury. “ It cannot be!!! The darkness is not here!!! “

Re: Greener Pastures...
Part 13 :
I can feel his evil touch and it sickens me, but in my thoughts, my father tells me to be brave. I am Grimhoof and must endure, so I fight... I hear the monsters screams as the pain increases within my chest. I cannot breath any longer, but I battle the darkness sweeping across my mind. I cannot fail my tribe. I will not fail my tribe..! Although the winds and the beasts screams are thunderous I can barely hear them any longer. He’s gone completely mad now. I can hear his rants pounding in my ears as whatever sanity remained in him disappears. “ The key must be hidden somehow, but that’s impossible! Impossible!!! The darkness must be here! It must!!! “
I feel my life force ebbing away as he rails ever louder. My head tilts back and I can see a tiny patch of blue far above. The sun is shining and I tell the Earth Mother to take me. As I release my weak hold on life a ray of sunlight breaks through the clouds. I can feel it’s warmth encompassing my entire body and suddenly the monster it thrown from me. He drops towards the green fields of Mulgore aglow with sunlight. I can see him thrashing about in a panic attempting to brush the offending light from his body. Then I begin to fall.
I am at peace as I descend towards the majestic bluff below. I can feel the Earth Mother all around me and her touch is wonderful, but somehow I begin to slow. I can feel a powerful wind lifting me gently ever so carefully cushioning my fall. As the details of the bluff sharpen I see a new figure standing beside Cairne. It is an Orc with a massive hammer. I watch as he commands the winds to circle me faster and faster. A hundred feet in the air I completely stop and then the winds encircle my body. I feel them form a protective cocoon around my injured body as my feet lightly touch the ground.
From behind me I hear the monstrosity cry out for me and his dark key. Magic I no longer possess. It appears he survived the fall as I did. It is Cairne that answers him. “ Back foul thing! This girl is a Grimhoof and therefore under my protection! “ I watch as the Orc quietly comes up beside Cairne and suddenly I recognize him. The Warchief Thrall is the one that saved me from the fall. It was Thrall that Cairne sent the message to then. They both stand between the monster and me. Cairne’s voice shakes the gravel under me now. “ Take one step towards her and you will never leave these lands. Of that I swear! “
I can see the twisted face contorting once more in gruesome rage at being blocked by the two towering figures. As the face off stretches longer my mother appears at my side. She shades my eyes with a wing and checks me for injuries. I touch my chest, but do not find any blood. I do not understand how it can be possible, yet thank the Earth Mother. I clasp my mother’s hand as I see my protectors move forward. “ Mother. Did you see where Wind Tamer fell? “ She hurries off and soon returns with the ancient bow. Thankfully the fall from my hand did not seem to damage it. With her help I struggle to my feet. Arrows lay scattered across the bluff from the merciless winds earlier. I gather three together and hobble forward. I see purple energy dancing across the hides of various tents and know the battle is quickly beginning anew.
The monster howls in rage as his eyes begin to blaze purple. As if in answer Thrall strikes the ground with his massive hammer. It begins to glow eerily blue in response and Cairne raises his monumental totem skyward bringing it down with the force of an earthquake. As I stumble closer it is Thrall I hear this time over the din of building energies. “ The elements of this land cry out for vengeance! And, they shall have it!!! “

Re: Greener Pastures...
I don't say so, but I have a book coming out in a couple of months... If the admin doesn't mind shameless plugs I'll post details... This stuff's all rough, but thought you all might like a diversion. My actual novel is in the last rewrites now. Which are worse than you might think...
I needed a break from Wow, and rewrites, but got bored and decided to bombard you all with my babble lol...

Edit : Sorry to say it's not about WoW...

Re: Greener Pastures...
Part 14 :
A stillness pervaded Mulgore... For the briefest of times all was quiet and it seemed the entire world held it’s very breath across the vast, rolling plain. Then from atop Thunderbluff a blue sun sprang into being within an instant and rolling shock waves rippled across the land sending all fleeing before it.
The battle had raged on for what seemed an eternity, yet Thrall knew it had only been seconds. His thick leather armor smoked fiercely and he quickly threw the upper sections off. His green skin bore several hideous burns. The foul Blood Elf twisted by fell magic’s was responsible. If the misguided monster thought that would give Thrall pause he was sorely mistaken for now he was extremely angry. He was quickly losing all qualms about burying this afflicted horror. He repeatedly struck the ground violently with his hammer building another monumental charge. It’s handle vibrated with barely restrained power. He watched as Cairne still rained titanic blows down upon the seemingly unbreakable energy shield surrounding the cowardly creature. A smile slowly crept onto his lips. He did so admire the Tauren’s sheer stamina, but now that his burning armor was off he was ready for round two.
Thrall rushed forward with his war hammer held high. His roar echoed across the entire valley of Mulgore. The impact was staggering. The air rippled with shock waves and Thrall was lifted bodily from the ground.
Stubbornly Cairne held his ground refusing to budge. As the debris cloud finally began to settle he saw an actual crack in the shields surface. The mindlessly cackling madman inside had not recovered enough to notice the breach and Cairne struck. Without thought the towering Tauren thrust both hands into the fissure. With arms the size of tree trunks he pulled. He felt the energy surrounding the shield pulse back to life, but he would not yield this foothold. Bellowing in fury he continued to pull against the dark forces never relaxing his pressure for an instant.
The insane Blood Elf inside the protective shield cackled louder as the breach began to seal itself. Cairne could feel the vile energy pulsing back to full strength. His eyes found the one inside and locked onto him. He roared and pulled until his arms trembled. At that moment the shield began to crack. Long thin lines raced around it’s circular surface multiplying by the hundreds with each passing second. It would not be long before it failed completely.
Thrall pulled himself back up in time to see Cairne shatter the accursed shield. He moved forward, but was meet by the frail little Blood Elf girl that thought she was a Tauren. She held a dangerous looking bow in her trembling left hand and three arrows in her right. He was about to warn her away when he noticed the look upon her face. He was intimately familiar with the expression he saw there and motioned her forward. He had once saw the exact same look on Grom Hellscreams weathered face.
As the two moved up behind Cairne the shield failed. Thousands of tiny purple shards exploded into the air like a fine mist. The monster inside howled in anger and began to weave yet another spell with the fell energies. It was at that exact moment that Roonorra yelled. “ Move away Cairne! “
The elder Tauren dropped swiftly to his right as Roonorra released Wind Tamer’s taunt string. The arrow never wavered an inch. The fiend had almost completed his spell when his eyes locked upon the arrow. Far, far to late to react it struck home between his bulging eyes. His mouth dropped open, but no sound came forth.
From behind them a rumbling roar suddenly came to life and they all ducked as three hundred pounds of raging tiger leapt passed. Nyya’s powerful jaws snapped shut around the monstrous figures slim neck. In one swift movement it was all over. Nyya dropped the head and stood over the body. Her roar echoed across the bluff in challenge to anyone else that wished Roonorra harm.

Re: Greener Pastures...
Part 15 :
I sit watching the sun set behind the mountains that surround Mulgore. Nyya lays beside me, now calm and content, like nothing ever happened. Cairne guided me over to the entrance of his lodge where I now sit as Thunderbluff returns to normal.
How can they do it? It amazes me how the Tauren always manage to continue, even in the face of tragedy. As I sit here an old female walks by and nods her horned head to me. I never thought they accepted me as one of their own, but I see now they always have. The doubts were mine alone and after today they have all disappeared. Cairne has promised my father a grand ceremony tomorrow, but he knows we must name a new chief first. The tribe will not be here until then. I wish my sister could be here, but she trains as a Druid far to the North. Our tribe is woefully unprepared for my father’s passing. We are small and have none the right age. All are to young to have completed the trail or to old, but I trust in Cairne to help us through these trying times.
I watch Cairne and Thrall walking slowly around the bluff patting backs and grasping shoulders. Those two are beyond belief. I truly think their like will never again exist in our world. Cairne especially displays qualities so rare. His vast strength and power tempered with such empathy and compassion have forged a leader unlike any other. Dear Cairne. His heart is beyond measure among all others in this world.
I find my right hand hovering over my own heart. I wonder where the darkness could be inside of me. That evil key. Could it really be inside of me? I feel a warm hand on my shoulder and look up to see Cairne towering above me. A mountain of muscle and bone. His snout spreads into a smile. “ Fear not child. That darkness was pushed out long ago by a much more powerful force. “
I stare up into those big eyes. I see reflections in them of pain, suffering, but much more I see peace and compassion. Those eyes have seen so much evil in this world, yet it could never sway his heart. His massive hand tightens on my shoulder. “ I never doubted in your father’s ability to heal you child. We both sensed the seed of evil nestled within your tiny soul, but also the light. “ His great head drops close to mine. “ Your father said he would kindle that light into a roaring flame. He became your greatest champion and fought for you as he would any of our people. “ His old eyes filled with pride. “ And, today you became his champion. “
My tiny shoulders fit in the palm of Cairne’s monumental hand, as he urges my to stand. I see a crowd has gathered while we spoke. It has to be everyone on the bluff and at it’s head stands Thrall smiling. Cairne clears his throat and his voice reverberates across the plateau. “ This is our sister. Roonorra of the Grimhoof. Daughter of Grallorn. Today we have suffered great woe, but from that also comes hope. “ I feel him gently push me out in front of him. All eyes now come to rest upon me. I am frail and tiny compared to my Tauren family, but I see them all smile at me. Again Cairne’s mighty voice rings out into the twilight. “ I name Roonorra chief of the Grimhoof tribe..! May her light lead them across the plains of Mulgore! “
I feel Cairne place a headdress on my head. The assembled crowd cheers loudly and I am in shock. Before I can protest Cairne hands me another item. His voice booms out. “ May Wind Tamer never fail her! “ I feel his hand softly prod me forward out towards the crowd. Nyya is instantly beside of me. Her head trying to push it’s way under my arm. I can’t quit stumbling. I use Nyya to lean upon as we ease forward. The crowd swells around me all patting my back and cheering. From behind I see Cairne wink at me.
