Re: Timeline Speculation
It was made during Wrath alpha/beta, but it was supposed to be from before tBC, according to the same post as the list itself - which would mean the Wrath zones would have been changed since then as well.
Now, let's check list's expansion 3 on the list and Cataclysm.
Maelstrom Set / While Maelstrom itself plays a role, the zones seem to say the islands and the sea are the main theme - which are not in Cata
Gilneas - 77 to 80 / Gilneas is a starting zone for Worgen - in list's version there are clearly no new races here
Grim Batol - 78 to 81 / Grim Batol is a dungeon in Cata, its "zone" became Twilight Highlands, endgame zone, not beginning
Kul Tiras - 79 to 82 / no mention of Kul Tiras in Cataclysm
Kezan - 81 to 86 / starting zone for Goblins, same as Gilneas
Tel Abim - 83 to 85 / not mentioned at all in Cata
Zandalar - 84 to 87 / merely mentioned, and one villain group comes from there
Plunder Isle - 86 to 88 / not mentioned
The Broken Isles - 87 to 90 / not mentioned
The Maelstrom - 89 to 90 / as mentioned above, plays a big role, but is not a levelling zone
So most of this information is completely wrong, including the main theme itself.
Let's check expansion 4 then, OK?
Plane set / Cataclysm is a better fit for this, theme-wise, it's clearly nowhere close the final version of expansion 4, MoP
Pandaria - 1 to 10 / not a starting zone in MoP, whole continent of zones
Hiji - 10 to 20 / no mention so far
Wolfenhold - 1 to 10 / what is that? Worgen starting zone? Too bad we have Gilneas
Xorothian Plains - 10 to 20 / seems like it's supposed to be Worgen 10-20 zone, who somehow get to a Legion world
The Green Lands - 88 to 91 / some random "Emerald-y" made-up name to me
The Dying Paradise - 91 to 94 / as above
The Emerald Nightmare - 94 to 97 / no Emerald Dream mentioned at all currently for MoP - ED was done for in a book
The Eye of Ysera - 97 to 100 / as above
Deephome - 88 to 91 / misspelled name, zone known from tabletop RPGs, completely wrong placement level and expansion wise
Skywall - 91 to 94 / in reality, a location of a dungeon and a raid
The Abyssal Maw - 94 to 97 / in reality, location of one dungeon
The Firelands - 97 to 100 / location of a raid in expansion 3
So all in all, list's expansion 4 is much better fit for real expansion 3, and STILL manages to get most stuff wrong. The end judgement? Something anyone can make up.
TL;DR:
Besides, you know, the fact that the original poster admitted to faking it in the very same thread.

Of course, if I was getting my ass chewed, I would call it fake as well.Andine wrote:

But he had to have had some decent source material to pull from. Mentions of The Firelands, Abyssal Maw, Pandaria, Grim Batol, etc, needed either good reference from the older games and books, or inside information.
The fact that things changed from pre-Wrath would not make it fake. Lots of things change when designing the game. Abyssal Maw was supposed to be a raid, and they ditched it. Stuff happens.
So are things like Pandaria, The Firelands, Kezan, etc listed in the lore someplace else that a lore-geek would know?

Re: Timeline Speculation
Yes, all the things that he did hit correctly for the name were mentioned before, mainly in the tabletop RPG books. They were all implemented completely differently to what he said though - which is pretty clear nobody was "chewing his ass" (if somebody was, he wouldn't be announcing it after the Cata reveal, but sooner as the list was very popular for long).
Yes, things change, but all of the stuff post-Wrath are wrong to their placement and role in the game. I mean, almost literally all - all he hit was that Deepholm is a levelling zone, but it's wrong expansion and wrong levels. And then he misspelled it - though the misspelling itself may be intentional, seeing as he typed Azuremyst as "Azuremyrk" to create an illusion of "they changed it since" (Azuremyrk, really?).
What baffles me the most about this list is how it gained so much popularity. I mean, I was making similar lists for LONG, except never claimed them to be true. Would they be as popular if I did?

Re: Timeline Speculation
I'm afraid they're long gone. I could tell you to search for them on one forum under my other nickname but the amount of stupidity I posted there back then is not something I want to show off to people.Royi wrote:I think its time for you to post your lists now! I want lists!

But if you want, I can fake some Broken Isles dungeons & raid descriptions.

Only if you can include a Gadgetzan Raid of some sortAndine wrote:Royi wrote:But if you want, I can fake some Broken Isles dungeons & raid descriptions.

I think we're going waaaaay off topic. >>;
I made this topic to figure out how many months/years is it between the cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria.

Short answer: we don't know, and have nothing to base speculation on. Perhaps it's one year, like between most expansions, perhaps not.Jessibelle wrote:I think we're going waaaaay off topic. >>;

I think it was only a few months between Wrath and Cata, if I'm not mistaken.Andine wrote:Short answer: we don't know, and have nothing to base speculation on. Perhaps it's one year, like between most expansions, perhaps not.Jessibelle wrote:I think we're going waaaaay off topic. >>;

Re: Timeline Speculation
From vanilla to tBC it was a year. From tBC to Wrath it was a year. But from vanilla to Cata it's been five years, meaning it must have been ~three years between Wrath and Cata.Jessibelle wrote:I think it was only a few months between Wrath and Cata, if I'm not mistaken.Andine wrote:Short answer: we don't know, and have nothing to base speculation on. Re: Timeline Speculation
Was it? Hm.....maybe it's another year or two then from Cata to Pandaria. Would help with Anduin growing up.
Re: Timeline Speculation
The Raid on Gadgetzan will explain some time lapses (theres a portion that takes you into the nearby Caverns of Time actually)Jessibelle wrote:Was it? Hm.....maybe it's another year or two then from Cata to Pandaria. Would help with Anduin growing up.
