MoP pets better than Cata rares?

I still have my beloved turtle-granny Precious - elder water turtle model - just because of all the memories, both of taming her (me lvl40s, going into an instance for the very first time, and on my very own... /gasp!) and of all those instances she's tanked for me. Even though I no longer use her, and probably won't go back to using her (unless I hit my head and go after the extreme soloing after all) I'll never get rid of her, no matter how many choochooturtles or dragonturtles or whateverturtles they will introduce.

As for sambas, I have one - but only because I've stumbled upon him while doing mu Wildhammer dailies. I've used him once or twice for leathergrinding, and now Amra is in the stables, with my 2 other cats - my leveling-times buddies Shadie the black tiger and Freya the snow saber - all completely unused since I became BM-4-life and stubmled upon the spiritbear. And of those 3, if I had to release one to make a spot for another pet, sambas would be the first to go.
The new tigers... I don't want another cat to just sit in a stable. I don't use cats anymore, anyway... but I might, just might, tame the brown-with-black-tail one just for the visuals while questing in pandaria. Or I'll just keep using my beloved spiritbear, like a good dwarf-girl I am

Wow, I remember when Sambas' model was first announced and everyone went crazy over how cool he looked. And now no one likes him? ): I understand that his mane really is a bit too big, altogether it would probably help if the cat model wasn't crouched so low to the ground, but the model overall is a good one, no doubt about it.

I don't think I could replace my Sambas. It depends on stable space and what pets I will be able to tame come MoP. I know for sure I'll be replacing my current cat models with some of the new tigers. I used to think Terrorpene looked so badass when I first saw the model, a flaming turtle of death, what's not awesome about that? But, I dunno, those new dragon turtles do look amazing. If one particular skin ends up appealing to me, Terrorpene might indeed get replaced, but for now I'm not too sure. All I know so far is that I'll need some of the new tigers and a crane, maybe a goat.

I felt that way with a lot of the Cata rares, had to get them all at first, but at this point I really only use Jadefang and Skarr. What is funny is going into the Molten Front these days. You'll likely see at least 4 rares up at once (including Kirix, whos generally always up now). No one does those Molten Front dailies anymore, and hardly any hunters are still out there trying to nab one of those tames.

If I'm feeling bored I generally can clear my npcscan cache and then hop over to Molten Front for a few good NPCSCAN alerts to cheer me up.


For some reason though, I've never been able to get attached to a non-rare pet. Granted I only have 11 pets right now in my stables, but my Corehound (the white one from draenei zone) and my Ghostsaber pet (at least a unique way of obtaining him) are the only non-Silver Dragons.

I'm hoping there is a rare-porcupine and a rare-dragon turtle (even if its the same color as others), otherwise I don't think I'll be able to really enjoy the pet. Its stupid I know, but it is what it is with me.

Its like how the damn wow forums always say "this is why we can't have nice things" when people get vocal about changing something, then another group people get vocal about the change saying that they're never pleased.

I go for looks of the pet, not by rarity. I tame what I like the look of.

Only original Cataclysm rare I have is Terrorpene, and she's staying with me. I do find the dragon turtles to be a bit too small from what I've seen.

Actually, I've been a bit underwhelmed with most of the new pets for MoP. Only the green crane made me go "MUST TAME ONE NOW!" Although I did tame a new tiger and am enjoying him, it wasn't an instant love. He might replace my red lynx later.

I really like Terropene and Sambas personally, but I don't think I'll be replacing them come MoP. I'm pretty indifferent to all the pets thus far.. I'll certainly get the new black tiger, quilin and porcupine. But I don't really care about the rares thus far.

Honestly, Cata's rares didn't really impress me. I DO like the amount of variety cataclysm brought with it, and I really do love the 4.2 rare tame challenges especially. However, overall the models/skins themselves didn't impress me. Like Skarr. I always wanted that skin for so long, but once I tamed him I realize I just can't stand that 'head hung low' or 'head tilted awkwardly when he runs' issue with his model so he never gets used.

Personally, I'm biased though I think because to me Wrath really raised the bar of my expectations of pets in the game. Skoll and Loque'nahak have made it impossible for me to bond with Spirit beasts like Gondria, Magria, or the owl one (I always forget his name XD) or...

What Blizzard really needs to do is make a Black Lion and White lion on the Sambas model. Oh man I really want to see that. It'd make me so happy. Or a Rak'shiri aqua MoP tiger. YES!

Yeah, I know that. It's more like that I didn't realise so many people actually disliked him, I thought he was an all around loved pet like Loque'nahak is or something. xD Heck, I have a few issues with Loque'nahak's anatomy, but I still adore him. Probably because he's the first rare pet I ever really cared about and camped for. I'll never forget that excitement! I just don't know why people dislike Sambas. ):

I personally end up more attached to rare pets. Wassa said that she goes for the look of the pet and not the rarity but, hey, a lot of rare pets are made to be the most visually attractive ones. At least that's how I feel anyway. I wanted to tame the Soo-holu skin for absolutely ages so imagine my happiness when they put in Skarr as a rare mob. I was after him as fast as I could. He's most likely the only rare I could never abandon. Unless they made the purple gem cat with the green eyes tameable. Or maybe the silver one. But yeah, in a sense, I suppose I also go for the look of the pet if I like it rather than the rarity. But at the same time it just so happens that a lot of the pets I like are rare mobs.

What Blizzard really needs to do is make a Black Lion and White lion on the Sambas model.

SO MUCH THIS. I've been hoping they'd re-use Sambas' model to be honest, especially if they were to make a black lion out of it, like Humar the Pridelord or maybe just a new mob altogether.

Some I do, some I don't. I still like Terrorpene and Sambas but I've got plenty of leeway in replacing many of the others. I've gotten all the spirit beasts and most likely will replace the cat ones first. They're just not as big a draw to me as Karoma and Ban'thalos or the WOTLK Loque'nahak and Skoll spirit beasts. I've also got other rares I can trade off (pretty much all but four of my stable beasts is a rare or spawned on both my 85 hunters out of 50 between them). I can keep one on one character and lose it on another to get something else. I'll always keep Terrorpene, Ban'thalos, Deth'Tilac and Rotting Ag'amar (first "must have" pet I tamed back in the BC days).

Personal preference I'm not a fan of the new Turtles. I love my Terrorpene and plan on keeping him as my one turtle! I was never a fan of Sambas' model, I let him go shortly after I tamed him. I definitely plan on picking up one of the new tigers, the brown tiger in particular, and naming it Meeko after my brown tabby cat at home. I'm also really hoping that that new blue "spirit beast" tiger is tamable.

I love plenty of the Cata Rares, and I love a lot of the MoP Pets (Yellow Dragon Turtle/Light Blue Dragon Turtle, Blue Crane). However, I'm still hoping that they make these a Core Hound that looks like Desghidorah and a Hydra that looks like Cretaceous King Ghidorah.

I think I'll be keeping my rares but adding a few of the new skins, like the goat, the guilen (battle res hunter style), the dragon turtle (only if they give it thier uber cute fins and spikes back), and I'll get the black tiger I have fallen in love with but other than that I wouldnt say they are better, worse, or even the same...it is what each person is able to bond with.

I personaly love my Envy (Sambas) and though Im not fond of turtles my TonkaTuff has grown on my (Terrorpene) I wouldnt have tamed him but I just couldnt let that group of people kill him so I bought his life and tamed him (I got a few of my rares that way...lol...Im a big softy on not letting them die just because someone non hunter found them and wants to murder them to see if they get something shinny ~sigh~)

Something I thought of just now though is that MoP rares might end up being 'better' than Cata's ones. Why? A lot of Cata's rares were recycled models and skins. Karoma is a good example. That rare was only introduced for the people who never managed to get the Grimtotem Spirit Guide when it was tameable. Ban'thalos is exactly the same as Olm the Wise only with some effects on the wings. Magria and Ankha are Gondria recoloured. MoP is introducing a bunch of new models and no doubt some of them will become rare spawns. And by my personal standards, the newer the models, the better. xD

For example, would you get the Dragon turtles over Terrorpene?

I don't really dig turtles myself but either models have the same pull as far as would I tame/use them.

As far as the new tigers vs. Sambas I like both. I love Sambas (we need more ally mounts tamable fyi) and I really love the new fluffy tigers and have them on my must get list for my hunters.

As far as rare vs common skin it does not really matter. If it looks badarse to me then I'll add s/he to my pack. Rare only matters to brag 'look I bagged (read got lucky) the rare'. And face it only us hunters care in the long run (unless ur raid lead 'needs' the buff).

Also, if the tiger god modle becomes tamable, Magria will be updated into that

All I can say is WANT! I don't care if monks have the tiger god model as a ability I want that dang skin! Also since the druid fire cat is old content I want that skin as well! PLZ PLZ PLZ! *MASSIVE HUNTER BEGGING BAY EYES* I think since this expac is all Asian and elemental theme runs strong through it a fire cat (rare?) would work well.


Speaking of rares and that includes new SBs when will we start seeing them pop up?

I wouldn't say so. So far the 'new tamables' have been quite the let down. I love the new Tiger model and Quilen and that's about it. Everything else is rather boring in my opinion.

New Tigers - New high quality skin. Cat looks more realistic like Sambas.
Cranes - Boring
Porcupines - Cute, but would I use it? nope.
Goats - Boring
Silk Worm - Neat idea, but you can tell it wasn't meant to be tamed by the decrease in the quality of the skin when it grows after taming.
Dragon Turtle - I like the look, but it's too SMALL! Terropane is my forever turtle.
Quilen - Really the only interesting of the new pets. Ugly as hell but I love him to bits n' pieces! Can't wait to have one in live too.

I have this horrible feeling that Ghostcrawler allowed us to keep the porcupines and the silk worms because they didn't have anymore new pets to offer this expansion.. ~sigh~ so very sad. Forget the Goats, forget the Cranes and just make the Hydras tamable! /fliptable DX

Actually, the hydra body model is very strange and irritating imo. The run/walk is awkward, like they were huge and got shrunk (which is exactly what happened), and as a result the whole model flops all over the place. The three heads argue way too much, which makes that loud hissy growl which is worse both in volume and repetition to the tiger yawn. They don't do anything else other than the three-head attack, so it's a very boring pet in that respect. All in all, it makes me both agitated and nervous to use mine.

They'd need some serious structural work to be viable pets.

On the flipside, I'm DAMN tired of cats. Blizz, please, I'm begging you, more large vicious dogs/wolves.

Nope. Not a fan of the dragon turtle - might get it for diversity as I have a million or so hunters, but in a straight up cool test it's not even close in my book. Terrorpene rocks.

Yep. The new tigers look awesome, can't wait for those (plus Sambas was too floofy to begin with).
