Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
---
My truly epic story was from a year ago, when i ran through lv70 Northrend as a lv36 Willowzen to capture the illusive Daggercap Hawk (I posted my story on Thottbot. but I didn't have time to take screencaps, unfortunately). This story probably doesn't count towards the contest, but this was the craziest stunt Ive ever pulled, so I'll tell it quickly. I flew to Vengeance Landing by zeppelin, and then proceeded to run passed the Fjord Crows (same model but too high lvl) and aggroed every worg in the area as I ran to the elevator. I stood waiting for it with them chomping at me, however I was safe inside the lift. I ran down the Fjord trail til I reached the Utgard bridge, it was very quiet the entire journey there and there wasn't a creature in sight. At this point, I was consulting Thottbot maps and sorting out where the Daggercaps sat and how to reach them. I found out that they were below the Utgard bridge I was standing on, and rather than taking a risky fall, I decided it would be best to see if there was a trail leading down there. On my way towards the trail, a lv70 pvping Alli confronted me. I didnt want him to get honor points, so I jumped off the bridge and died. I rezzed, swam up a river only to be killed again by more worg mobs. I rezzed again, this time further up the river, and stood on a small rock next to the log cabin's porch the Daggercaps were perched on. The spot I was in was fairly precarious, front of me was a human mob on the porch, and behind me was a lake of patrolling sharks. There were two Daggercaps to choose from, so I chose the left one and began to tame it. It aggroed two humans who ran out and so I dove into the lake and swam away from them, avoiding any sharks. After the humans reset, I ran over to the Daggercap on the right side which had no humans beside him (of course), except for a patrolling one. While the pat was away, I tamed it. The funny thing is that the hawk decided to use the stairs instead of flying over the balcony to meet me, and flew passed a few humans. I panicked and swam to the shark-infested waters again, then hit my hearthstone and got out of there just in time! LOL XD
Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
Watching a turtle tear apart what used to be the game's first 20 man raid was deeply satisfying. The close calls were nail-biting and racking my head trying to figure out how to get enough haste to pull it off was just exquisite. But in the end, a hunter's second best friend is still a patient shaman. The Urge finally hit me and I had to promote my Ancient Core hound to a boss level Beast. What I didn't expect was the challenge it would become. I had plenty of health, so that wasn't the issue. It was trying to fit the tame between those meddlesome charges. After several very very close calls, i took a break from UBRS and when dungeon crawling for a badge trinket with a haste Use: That alone might have tipped the scales, but i wasn't done. I roped my brother into bringing his shaman along for sweet sweet bloodlust.
Our first attempt, my less than brilliant sibling attacked the Beast in self defense when he was hit with a charge. this led to a series of frustrating 2-3 seconds-left attempts where the Beast would turn to hit the ignorant shaman at the last second.
After diplomatically explaining to my brother how the taming process worked, and his more than passing resemblence to unflattering body parts of barnyard animals, another attempt was scheduled for when sated wore off.
Cooler heads prevailed this time and my brother's chargable presence bought me the time i needed to secure my new boss-level pet! God I love this rush!
Happy hunting everyone.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest
Beast: Oozeworm
Date: July 16, 2010
Place: Dustwallow Marsh
Sober: No
Wearing a pretty blue dress: Yes
On the night of Petopians Grand Adventure, Gryselde was whooping it up in Crossroads with a few friends, dancing and drinking a lot of mead, with her beloved new owl, Puck. The owl, sad to say, has developed a taste for the drink. Of course, Grys needs to keep him company and make sure he doesn’t mistake any more druids for mice. And he can’t buy his own mead, after all. Suddenly, word comes that the Oozeworm has been sighted in Dustwallow. Well, Grys had been planning on replacing her bear with a Jormungar worm when she reached Storm Peaks...but...Oozeworm...how tempting! She'd never even SEEN Oozeworm! And blue and gold look great together! And that decided it. She stabled her inebriated owl and called Honey, her black bear to her side. Honey was hungry, bored and really just wanted to go back to Feralas. She hadn't been out in ages. Grys apologized, gave her some talbuk for the road and wished her a good journey. With a grumble, Honey set off for the forests, muttering about drunken Tauren and owls with mead habits.
That taken care of, Grys leapt aboard the nearest Windrider. Granted, she missed the first time, but the second try was flawless. She’d always wanted to try riding one backwards anyway. Off to Dustwallow!
After a false start in the wrong town, which was entirely the Windrider’s fault, (they don’t speak drunken Taurahe, after all), Grys saddled her raptor and went racing off in the wrong direction. Several times. With the assistance of a helpful and perhaps more sober guildmate, she finally located the enormous golden worm. It seemed a bit blurry, but that didn’t bother her.
A frost trap and taming spell later, the fabled Oozeworm of the Marsh was hers! And hungry. She hadn’t thought about that. As it gazed at her speculatively, perhaps wondering how Tauren tasted, she entreated her helpful guildmate for fruit, which thankfully, she was able to provide.
Upon returning to the Crossroads, the now tamed Oozeworm was greeted enthusiastically by a gang of drunken hunters and shortly christened Wibbles.

Re: De Greatest Tame! 1000g Contest

It can be read in full on This Thread. However I'll write up a story here.
Basically, Taigi dinged 74 last night. I've been trying to get to 74 for DAYS so that I could start camping Arcturis. Haven't liked bears much in the past, but a bear seems to fit a tauren well, and I wanted a dps bear. So I worked very hard to just keep leveling, pushing through quests I didn't like in Dragonblight for the points, and eventually dinged 74.
Headed over to Grizzly Hills immediately. Got beat on by a few bears and wolves and trappers along the way, because I hadn't gotten any flight points yet. Then I took the long way by accident, freaking out the whole time because maybe coming from the WRONG SIDE of Grizzly Hills would make me get there JUST too late and I'd find a person sitting there with his new spirit beast. Oh, and keep in mind--this is my first Northrend-leveled Horde toon on Nesingwary, so she's still running everywhere on a ground mount because I can't afford Cold-Weather Flying yet.
So I runrunrun across the zone and finally get to his spawn point after narrowly dodging a few NPC guards for Amberpine. Thankfully the trappers were too interested in cutting up dead deer to notice me rocketing past on my kodo. I get to the spawn point, all set to settle in for a camp, and...there's an alli dwarf hunter there. Well, I know what it's like to panic when somebody else shows up for your camp, so I park Taigi there, log out, and clear her cache just in case. I figure I wouldn't have been able to tame him anyway even if I did compete; a level 80 could wipe Arc out in a heartbeat. I'd just pop in and wait until nobody was there before starting my camp.
I fool around online for a bit, but I can't help myself. I pop back on just before I planned to head to bed, just to see. I'm not expecting much; it's only been half an hour, so why would the dwarf bother leaving? But amazingly, there's nobody there! "Great," I think, "I'll just hang around for a few hours and wait for my ghost bear to turn up." I don't expect much. Based on what I've read about Arc on WowHead his spawn timer is pretty long, and he's quite competitive, seeing as he has only ONE spawn point.
Vephriel and Shaon both see me talking about how the dwarf is gone in GChat and decide to come over and keep me company and wait for a bit with me. It's just like old times, since Veph and Shaon both waited with me for Humar months ago! I figure there'll be more kooky madness, and as the long camping hours get even longer we may possibly spawn another religion with all the skunks in the area, because we tend to do that on the camping high.
Veph and Shaon arrive and chillax by the campfire I've set up while waiting. We're just starting to get into the crazy conversations and barely five minutes have passed when....BLAAAAAAAAAAM! NPCscan goes off, and there's Arcturis, standing right in front of us! "OMG," Veph says, and yells in Gchat that Arcturis spawned. I myself was so surprised by his arrival (really, I hadn't expected anything tonight, I expected to be here for DAYS waiting) that I almost forgot to go tame him for a second!
Then I remembered what I was here for, ran forward, and slapped my frost trap down right at my feet so his pounce wouldn't dodge it. Hit him with a concussive shot, then started tame beast, and he reared up furiously, then launched himself at me. He hit the trap, froze, and despite all his mighty reported strength on WoWHead for breaking out of those suckers couldn't wiggle free once. I finished my tame and my new friend padded to my side.

Veph got some pictures of the tame itself which are posted in the linked thread above, but here's a picture of me with him directly afterwards (as well as Veph and Shaon):
