I bolded what someone did to me when I was camping Arcturis. :/ He did it to another alliance player while i was on my horde toon and I told him to knock it off.Kittykat wrote:If you are sitting there camping a rare spawn, there's nothing wrong with that. On the melding thing ... I ... I just sit at a spawn point and sometimes a horde just zips up. I'm pretty sure I'm not griefing him. o_O I've gotten spit on by a few blood elves (Lookin' for Skoll myself to finish my rare hunt. King Krush is kool, but like 3 of my buddies are after him), had an orc flag in front of me and I hugged a Tauren. Just sitting together should be okay but I think mammoth mounts are both cool and a tool of the annoying masses. XPWildcatTM wrote:... why are people straight up annoying? While camping him I had one alliance wail his mount for 5 minutes, another park his huge butt on top of me, another meld next to me, another fly all around me, and another calling a few of his guild mates grief me. God good this is absolutely the most annoying rare I've ever set up camp for.
Congratulations on your bear.
Edit: Asking because I'd... really hate to grief someone unwittingly.
If someone ELSE is sitting there camping, you see them there, and you tell them they have to leave, or you bring in your buddies to try to make them leave, that's griefing.
If you saw another hunter trying to tame a rare, and you fly down to watch, that's fine.
If you fly down, shoot to take aggro, and kill the animal to prevent the tame, that's griefing.
So, the behavior you described would not fall under the category of griefing in my opinion, since you were just sitting there mindng your own business.

I alt out, too in the same manner, but the mammoth wailing was just annoying as hell. Really, that's the only thing that got to me. The rest can be ignored.Novikova wrote:Honestly, most of the time I sit at a rare spawn point I'm windowed or alt tabbed doing homework or chores and listening for NPC scan or checking in for tells. Re: Arcturus
So I'm shaking.
I've been camping Arcturis tonight considering the server reset. And I spent the entire evening back and forth from alt-tabbed and such. I'm sitting here and something sounds a little odd from the noises in Grizzly Hills. It sounds like a Bear.
Awesome right?!
I hop down, dismiss my pet while looking around, and start taming. Suddenly an NE appears. (Can I not see them while they are melded?) He has hearts over his head. I swore I didn't see him before I started. And I had been out there since about 2-3pm today. I am pretty sure I'd been there longer. He distracts mid tame. I distract back. Then him. And me trying to pull Arcturis from him. And there the bear goes down.
He's the last SB I need to get 4/4. And instead of him just letting me tame and come back tomorrow so we both can get him. He just killed him. He was an NE so I hopped over to my Druid and had several words for him. He told me that he had been there all night too. I never saw him once and even turned on Track Hidden just in case. A few times I heard the sound that Stealth makes.
I'm sorry, but I'm really shaken up. When should I go back to look for him?

Re: Arcturus
12 hours from when you last saw him. I wouldn't count on that bear to turn up before then.
If the elf was sitting shadowmelded all night, then he could have been there, but basically, if you couldn't see him, you couldn't have known he was there, short of standing on him while he was stealthed.
But on a PvE server, who else would he have been hiding from but you? Just to get the jump on the tame? Meh. I wouldn't do that as an elf, honestly. I'd rather be out in the open staking my claim, possibly driving off competition. I guess I just don't see the point.

If someone thinks there's no competition, they may be less on-the-ball with their alt-tabbing, giving you a possible window of tameing before they realise what's afoot.
Only possible advantage I can think of, and IMO probably worse than being obvious and visible.

The jig would be up the moment the other hunter notices, though, and then (most likely) neither hunter gets the tame. So yeah...meh.

Yes, you should. And that's really messed up. As for the stealth noise, it is very common in that area. I think there are NPCs on the ridge above his spawn spot. I had the noise go off every minute or so and there was no one there.Bundia wrote:So I'm shaking.

Re: Arcturus
Thanks all.
This morning I hear the noises again. I'm not sure if it's the hunter or not. And I am out here a bit early just in case. Also, I spent last night reforging any haster that I took back onto my gear. I'm sitting with Haste food and an Elixir. And I made myself a macro to use that will blow AH and dismiss my Corehound. It appears that my cast time is down to about 5 seconds. I was about to have the first try in the first place. I think I was 3-4 seconds off.
Hopefully he respawns in 12 hours because I'll likely miss him otherwise since I have raid and need some sleep for work in the morning. Last night was crushing. But I did do a couple things to cheer myself up. I went to see if Humar was up, and he was laying peacefully with his pride. I decided he'll stick around on this toon for a while. My ultimate plan is to have him on my Worgen. It's funny how he seems cooler than when I tamed Pitch to see if I liked the skin. lol. While walking out, I found Swiftmane. I want to tame him so badly.
And then while testing my macro, I found Takk's Nest and Takk himself. With my current taming spree, I have 3 slots left. Most of them are placeholder slots in my stable for pets in Cata. Though I think I'll need to make more room. I've been having the worst desire to just rare tame.
So there was a silver lining. I just hope today seals the deal.

Re: Arcturus
The stealth sound you're hearing is part of the Grizzly Hills ambiance music. It's the wind through the trees, but it sounds a lot like the stealthing cue.
Re: Arcturus
That's a relief. I started to worry that I was yelling at him for no reason. But I was pretty positive that I was there first.
Anyhow. I hit the 12 hour mark since his kill and no sight yet. =/
EDIT: EEEEEEEEE 14 hour mark and he's mine! The macro worked like a charm. And guess who I met while I was trying to tame? That's right. The hunter that killed him last night. And he tried to take him from me again! This time he and I were a bit further apart, and Ancient Hysteria has 45 seconds. He got really lucky when he interrupted the first time since my cast was down to 5 seconds give or take. But my second time was perfect. But for some reason the Blood Lust effect bugs out Quartz. It told me I had 11 seconds. And halfway through the casts, "Unknown has reached level 77" pops into my screen.
The funny thing is I was talking to a hunter about how long I had been there. I was just telling him about the hunter that killed him last night. And suddenly NPCScan goes nuts. And as I was in combat (I use WiM), I read the BE tell me that he wouldn't try to grief me. Thank you. And moments after I left a BE Paladin whispered me telling me congrats. Turns out it was my griefer. Yeah. I got him no thanks to you since you STILL tried to steal him from me.* He apologized. I did as well since I was pretty mean last night when I screamed at him on my Alliance toon. Even though I was really angry, an apology was needed. And I ended up telling him about my macro to help his future tame.
For what it's worth, my boyfriend brought this to my attention. Distracting shot is on an 8 second cooldown. This means that if your tame is under that halo, another hunter most likely won't be able to taunt him back off you. You still aren't immune to a straight up kill. But the faster the better of course!
*Once again I looked around and saw no one other than the BE that told me he'd let me tame. Turns out my griefer was behind me today.

Nalorakk spawned at 12 1/2 hours; I hope and pray for you that he'll be on a shorter respawn timer too.

Re: Arcturus
Thanks for your well wishes. I got a bit distracted between my tame and posting on here. A lot of people trying to get the scoop on the tame at the moment. I'm pleased with the 14 hour respawn. I was getting ready to call my underfilled 25m Gold Bid tonight to keep camping considering some people waited 21 hours for him. I just wanted to get him. He's the last significant rare that I wanted to tame. Everything else that I "need" is in Cata.
Now I need a name. Usually it takes me so long to find my rares that I have one ready at the tame. This is the best part of taming.

Re: Arcturus
Grats on getting him!
And that other hunter is really a shit (forget my French) for attempting to steal him from you AGAIN. It's like seriously, he learned NOTHING from the first time....
I had a night elf hunter who was itching to do the same with my Arc. He ended up being very nice about giving me the spawn time via a horde alt while I was in a dungeon, but despite that kindness, I *know* that had I been there when Arc spawned, he would have tried to take him. He was shooting off freeze traps (yes, I saw that) and trying to reposition himself to be in the best spot for the tame when I was there. I'm glad that in the end, no harm was done, but I honestly would not have queued for that dungeon and missed that spawn had he not been there. Soooo, mixed feelings. -_-

Re: Arcturus
I had been camping out looking for him periodically since i spotted him on my pally at around 6:45 - 7:15 AM on 3 mornings a while ago. My hunter was only in her mid-40s at the time. Fast-forward to last Wednesday my toon was level 73, so i had to just watch while some shammy came by and shot him for spite - time was 6:58 AM
Thursday i was level 74 and tried to tame when he appeared at 6:56 AM - he OWNED me - twice! OUCH!! I came back from the graveyard the second time and found someone i had spoken to while stalking him a few days before had tamed him - nice for him.
Friday I overslept, got in at 7 AM to find he had been tamed by someone already
Saturday he didn't appear. Later that day, i read he was on a 21 hour schedule, so i camped out from 1AM-3AM Sunday - no show
This morning on a whim i came in at 6:40 and he appeared at around 6:45 -- got him!
My brief experience is, he appears 3 days in row around and then not for 2 or so. Good luck all you tamers

Sorry, forgot to mention, server was Eonar (US) and i am lvl 77

Re: Arcturus
I've got the other three, the two I love the looks of (Skoll and Gondria) and one thats meh (Loque) to me.
So I want the last one, being a "Spirit Beast Collector" is fun, amirite?
But man, Arcturis is proving to be the toughest of the group. One spawn point, long respawn (and it's never exactly 12 hours, as I found out at 3 am last night). And so close to two towns, it's always camped it seems.
Missed him yesterday whilst on-but-semi-afk (NFL Football comes first), and came back 12 hours from when he spawned, sat for an hour, and no respawn. I'd really like to get him before Cata drops, but it's not looking good at this point.
Well, if it was easy, it wouldn't be worth it, right?

Re: Arcturus
Arc's range is 12-22ish in my experience (I've tamed him on three separate occasions and helped tame him multiple times as well), so it's entirely possible to miss his spawn. It's terribly frustrating, especially if he doesn't appear when he ought to due to other Northrend rares being up and blocking him.

Time spent sitting and hoping some moron doesn't grief you does not constitute difficulty, sorry. Sucks if you're on limited playtime, too. I loathe sitting in one spot hoping NPCscan goes off and it's not some chucklehead pulling out his pet to show me how awesome he is!Warfish wrote:

Yes, it's a good feeling to finally get one, but geez louise camping can be a pain in the hoof.

I'd recommend SilverDragon vs NPCScan; SD will NOT be triggered by already-tamed rares running under you.

Meh, I run both. If your computer can handle both, go with both, as this is the safest possible option for Hunting for rares. and always delete your NPC and Creature chaches before camping.
