I have solo'd Prophet Skeram as a Prot Paladin, grantedly wearing almost 200 NR gear (those Earth Shocks suck). This was also pre-4.0, so not tested since (I got Exalted Brood with him, and all 4 mounts, only reason to go back is Guild AQ40 Run after Cata)

I didn't even attempt Satura or Fankriss, I simply mounted and ran past them without an active pet. Got to Huhuran's room and popped feign, they all reset, leaving me all the time in the world to regen some health (a run through two bosses and innumerable trash does a number on your HP) and then she was all mine. :)

Will Yauj be solotamable? Should I kill the other two with a throwaway pet or just pop a haste pot and pray?

Gotta get past Battleguard Sartura (Bring in the tank pet, it's all physical dmg) Feign Death will help alot, as the boss + 3 adds like to drop aggro and charge at someone else, OFTEN.
Then there is Fankriss the Unyielding. The "Spawn of Fankriss" adds that spawn during the fight you gotta nuke fast, as they enrage (when they enrage, they can hit a level 80 tank in Plate for 3-4k damage, personal experience on my Paladin). He will also randomly teleport you, or your pet (maybe, untested myself) to one of 3 spots in the room, and stun you in a web. Can't move, or anything til it wears off. Master's Call will be nice here if your pet isn't the one in it.
THEN you can get to Princess Huhuran. This is of course, barring all trash as well.
You can skip both those bosses with some well-timed feigns.

Solo, I couldn't down Yauj even at 85 (I assume you're after the orange beetle). She didn't hit hard, but she healed herself way too often and between her interrupts and fears (and her immunity to hunter interrupts) it seemed impossible. She went down really fast with a small group, though.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread that. You intend to tame her, not kill her for the beetle spawn... If she no longer has the boss tag (as others seem to be reporting) then maybe you're better off going for the blue one in Tanaris. But if you just like the challenge it should be possible. You have to be really fast and lucky though.

I keep wandering over that way but the rare eludes me. Might as well go for the challenge.

Ironically I'm failing to find Ashtail on Ryai #3, but logged onto Rosa on hellscream, make up a quick macro, start spamming and I found Harakiss and not where wowhead claimed she'd be >_> so I don't think she's that rare- as obviously she and Ainamiss had to have been tamed/killed once the servers hit live, but both have spawned atleast twice in one day.

Which made my day atleast, the only bug I need to tame is the orange one but that can wait.

Huh, whereabouts did you find her then?

Edit: HAH! Just tamed the rare and got a screenshot during and after tame on the spot I found him. Should I upload it?

Sure! And the spot where you got it; it'll help those who want but can not solo AQ40.

Rough estimate of where I found my Harakiss;

Alright, I forgot to grab the spot on the map, though it was the southish end of the pit. Pardon my UI, I've been experimenting with Tuk and it ate my old settings.

It's worth noting that Skeram's mind control has a 45 yard range (Which happens to be the same as Kill Shot's range). If you're in range, then there's a chance he'll cast it on you, feign death, or not. It's pretty much the only thing that poses any threat to your survival (And your pet's).

After three failed attempts (Two to MCs, one to my pet getting out of range and despawning, which reset the boss), I got him down, and went on to tame Yauj without any issues.

Kurasu wrote:I finally did this with a Spirit Beast. I'm not sure if the glitch was still there as strongly, but between the occasional Spirit Heals and Bloodlust procs, he was able to down the boss. Now I just need to find where Huhu is hiding. :D

This made this TONS easier for me too. I kept trying with a tenacity pet (turtle) and it just wasn't doing enough damage to go fast enough. The wonky pet AI kept messing me up when I would have to go get in range to mend pet, and my pet kept going LoS and kept having issues getting him to move correctly and I'd get too close and get MC'd.

Once I went to town to get my spirit beast, it was cake. Getting to the bug trio and ahuhu were cake for me, just the first boss had a little hiccup.

Edited for SS's

Grabbed the Orange Beetle from the Yauj fight. 2 hunters and 2 rogues. Had a wee bit of trouble at first but got it. First try in I tamed Kri and Gaerikith (other hunter) tamed Vem. Both respawned after we FDd. Second try. Reverse procedure. I tamed Vem while he tamed Kri. Both respawned again after FD. Third try we killed Yauj and I tamed her beetle while everything killed me. I lived long enough to see I had the beetle. Gaer and the 2 rogues burned down Kri and Vem.

Hm. I've tried with three different pets, my turtle Methusalem, my spirit beast Avalanche and Wigglesworth, my worm, but I've not been able to do it. The Spirit Beast did best, but could not get the spawns down quickly enough, causing too many there and my pet dying. The glitchy auto-heal did not seem to do it for me.. But, I'm giving it one more go as I type this. Who knows ;)

Ugh. The fight took so long now with so any attempts that there are respawns, so I'll give up on this for now until I figure out a way I can do this.

I don't think it's a glitch on the jormungar. I think it's Silverback, if you're specced to it. xD Though with only a minimum bit of help from me, mine soloed an amazing quantity of trash. FIVE at once!

Ohhhh, wait, I just saw it happen! o_o

Let me give Runty a good home.

I just gave it another shot and managed it with Avalanche - my once-Arcturis Spirit Beast. Now I'm trying to figure out where to go next ;)

Posted this in another thread as well:

Last night I went to AQ40 to get some of the Bug Trio

getting past Skeram was certainly a challenge. I tried soloing him before with no luck. This time i decided to bring a spirit beast (Arcturis) with me.
Because the boss does a lot of mindcontrolling I had put my weapons in my bag. Ran in with Arcturis and it was on! We must have fought the boss for at least 15 minutes. Everytime i got out of mindcontrol I used a heal on my pet and sometimes a spirit mend on myself. The splits that happened were the most challenging parts of the fight. After 15 minutes I was really close to the kill and then he feared me and my pet outside his area and he despawned. So I had to start all over again >.<

Second time during the fight his adds respawned and that added another problem. During a split while Arcturis had 3 bosses on him 1 of the adds decided to join in as well which added stress to an already stressed out hunter. But we survived and we downed him.

While going down into the tunnelsystem I ran into a 3-bug patrol. Those are nasty and can certainly kill you with ease if you are not paying attention. If you kill one of them, I think, 5 bugs will spawn, or maybe even more. Was a tough fight.

When I got to the trio bug boss I decided to wing it. Dismissed my pet. Ran in and started to tame the smallest (and closest) one called Vem. All 3 came running towards me and starting to hit on me. Not really life threatening at that point.Just when I finished the tame the Princess feared me and Vem dissapeared. Tame complete. I ran out of the room and the bosses despawned. Same procedure with Lord Kri.

So in conclusion: It is soloable, but it's no walk in the park. :)

I have to say, whilst it was challenging I managed to get all the way through to tame both Kri and Huhuran on my hunter (average gear is around ilvl251) Once you get past the first boss (more on this in a second) it's comparatively easy.

For Skeram:

I have to admit I did use my ghost Jormunger for glitch, but I can see it being doable with a SB specced for survivability using the heal whenever possible and cower each time it's ready. The trick is to make sure you're far away enough, I did have a hell of a time getting him until I read the post (I think from Wain) about the range as I kept getting MCd even when I was feigned.
Set your pet as focus, send him in and proc EVERYTHING you can (this means you take around 20% health off straight off the bat, can normally do so before the first MC attempt it also means that should things go TU and you get MCd it wont mean you start proccing your BW and destroying your pet as fast, which is always a plus)
So yeah, get him to around 80%, move as far as possible whilst still being in range for KC and then feign. Pet should have no problem murdering the split adds. Once they're down depending on if you're feeling lucky I recommend jumping out of feign and again wailing on him for a few seconds, then feigning again asap before the second split.
Then rinse + repeat til he drops.
Personally I managed to cock up the final 25% and get MCd throughout it, but as I'd got all my main spells on CD I managed to not kill my pet so it worked out OK.
After that I moved to the bug family. I personally was going for Kri.
Wait til Vem paths to the left, get in range, start the tame, and you can usually get the tame complete before the first fear with a bit of luck, then run away, dismiss the pet and FD again.
(Side-note, once you FD the whole lot re-appear, so if you want one of the others as well do the same with each.
Then it's just a matter of getting to Princess!
You can mount up and head past the trash with little hassle as long as you make sure you FD in a timely fashion (I would HIGHLY recommend dismissing your pet, I learnt the hard way that if you get into combat with the pet out ((especially near Satura)) that they WILL come for you FD or not if your pet's up as they don't reset properly, I know it's a fairly obvious thing to do, but I got caught out a couple of times with this.)
Again for Fangkriss you just need to be quick to run through and FD on the other side, the final trash before Huhuran is again a cake-walk in comparison and she's such an easy tame she might as well be a mob in a start zone.
I left with Huhuran, Kri AND through sheer luck the RED mount! (I've been there loads, had the other three for an age but never been lucky with the red one so I was sincerely chuffed.)

It's a great fun, challenging taming mission and I highly recommend it to all who're debating it.

Final recommendations:
1) Jormunger or SB as the pet to take.
2) Fish-feasts/flasks etc are not vital (I didn't use them, or rather I had one feast and wasted it on a failed Skeram attempt) but would be handy.
3) If you're not in a rush, try killing some of the trash, the mounts are cool especially if you're lucky enough to get the red one, which does infact look the mutt's nuts!
4) good luck and stick with it, the rewards far outweigh the repair bills.

I'll lob some screenys up when I get home if people are curious but at work currently :)

GL all!

P.S... now I just need Chromie, so if anyone on Draenor EU is up for a run I've got a couple of healer 80s to alternate around with it it's helpful :)
