Hm. I'm trying this, but though the explosive trap damage/shapeshift/tame works, the wolf reverts back to normal form when he's mine.

I will try to time it closer ;)

Nicely done! I honestly was expecting someone here to pull it off eventually, but not so darn fast. Impressive.

Too bad the only strategy for taming this involves taming over 40 wolves, until you manage to glitch the game so bad that it crashes >.<

btw, I'm able to view all your pics just fine.

I'm liking survival for entrapment. Then it's just a matter of gauging the distance between the wolf and you. You want the wolf to trigger the explosive trap fractions of a second before the tame finishes, so the trap's initial tick (and the wolf's transformation) happen as the tame completes. I haven't gotten it yet, but I've gotten close.

To add to this, since I'm not having much luck tonight, my theory is to fire an ice trap onto the wolf and start the tame sometime during the 4s entrapment. When the wolf hits your explosive trap, the tame should be almost done.

If I figure it out, I'll change the title to 'how to' :P Meanwhile, try this--

As you hit tame beast, Alt + f4. I'm not sure if it'll do it or not, as my guildmate's Tame Beast keeps cancelling--but at varying lengths of cast. Obviously this goes WITH the trap trick--"as you hit tame beast" the nine seconds or w/e before trap breaks, etc.

I'm hoping that, at some point, the tame will complete as he himself disappears >.>

Edit: The part I can't figure out, and maybe this is the key, is why I got a "too many pets" message.

To recount, I'd abandoned a wolf that had turned white again. Then, after waiting out a trap timer, I couldn't hit Tame Beast. I had three pets only showing, and yet it said "You have too many pets." When I then couldn't log out (the timer counted down, but I think the server wasn't responding), that's when I alt+F4'd.

If I'd just crashed, why would I have been able to wait out the trap, and hit Tame Beast? If I'd abandoned pet, where did the ghost one come from? Did the tame actually take as I crashed, and the "too many pets" was referring to this tamed one after I was dc'd but didn't know it, or?

I've atleast figured out when the wolf transforms- when it takes 200 damage. I'm attempting to do this on my now lv 32 formerly inactive orc, Lime.

Basically I melee, trap and then wait. Just getting down the positioning of the fire trap without] it setting the mob on fire while iced >_>

And Acheronita, if you really DO have to do something like that for the wolf to be well ghostly, it doesn't sound like the garwhal trick to me but well basically breaking the game a bit :/

Indeed. That's why I'm HOPING that isn't what did it. I don't know if it is, or not--I don't know if I dc'd before or after the tame, or what. Check out the post above--I've edited it to try and clarify .

no no no I know you don't want it to be that, I just mean, if that is the reason, I don't think we should be encouraging people to well really go and do it.

Definitely  I think right now it's more in the science stage, of "is this what did it?"

I DID IT. TAME COMPLETED AS TURNED GHOSTWOLF.

AND THEN.

Shazam, it poofed back to normal wolf. So yes, this is most definately what did it. I can confirm this, since Lime is such a low level she can whack, trap, immolation trap. After figuring out the correct placement for immolation, timing for the tick, timing for the distance from pet to trap...

yeah you have a glitch wolf, Ach, don't let it die. Don't do anything with it- and all you people wanting one? I suggest don't try and force it. This is obviously, and now glaringly, a very big bad glitch :/

Hmm, come to think of it, this sounds vaguely similar to something that happened back when I first got on a few days after 4.0.1, when pets were disappearing from stable slots.
I tamed a chimaera from Wintergrasp, and went to stable the beast. It wasn't in my pet slot, despite the fact that the creature was hovering right next to me. So, I abandoned my chimaera, and tamed a new one. No problem with this one.
Later, I went to a stable master, and discovered that I had two chimaeras. The first chimaera that I had abandoned because it didn't seem to exist was there, along with the replacement I had tamed. I took out one and abandoned it, and that was that.

Sounds like a similar thing happened to you, except the glitch was enough to crash the game. Whether or not this was the enabling factor for your pet to retain the buff is a different matter. Given Ryai's results that were posted as I was typing, I suspect this to be the case :|

Possibly, but I did also have what happened there happen many times (as far as the pet taming as a ghost wolf for a half second before reverting). I assumed that was down to server latency displaying the wolf's change-back a bit late, though, but I could be wrong.

I was genuinely shocked (happily) to see the ghost wolf when I logged back in, though!

I'd swear that I've nailed the timing on this several times and for a brief second it appears to be a ghost, but then reverts to the white wolf.

Yes but I doubt it's just that as well the ghost wolf is displaying the buff; meaning well, you evidently tamed and timed out at just the right spot somehow, unknowingly. And mean you said yourself that the wolf shows up as a white wolf for everything but when it's out in the world ...

And if it makes you feel any better, Gamon just smote another idiot in Orgrimmar as I wrote this reply.

Until someone can replicate this in a more controlled circumstance, I'd say that this would be a safe assumption. You may want to talent into Lick Your Wounds on your new wolf; if the ability autocasts, then it's high time to dismiss your pet before it dies.

Indeed! The one thing this made me think of...

Garwal showed up as a white worg on the login screen. The Oil-Stained wolf shows as a normal black wolf on the login screen. So yeah, it's definitely "just" a buff, rather than the old, true ghost wolves off the Grimtotems--I won't be taking him into Arena, at the very least.

If we manage a tame on these wolves at all, it will definitely still have the buff, and be "only" a buffed white wolf, rather than a "true" ghost wolf.

Your community site appears to be fubared as well :P
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/n ... rontia/pet

Can't see any of the pets when you click on them etc... your wolf is listed as level 19, and Cobalt doesn't have it's little icon next to it :P
I think you broke it!

Booooo... Sorry to hear Acherontia. I agree. I missed out on the grimtotem wolves as I was taking a break from the game at the time. I really wish they'd give them back (as a wolf, not another spirit beast -- I'm still extremely bitter over losing spirit strike).
