I used to have a Vargul Blighthound that I named Houndour. They look exactly like one.

Their figures remind me more of a dog as well than of a lion or any other big cat. o.O And don't be rude please. They're fictional characters, so there's not much point in arguing what they really are meant to be.
From what I've seen, the official guides aren't to be trusted. My Diamond and Pearl Official Guide has WAY too many mistakes to count. Besides, Legendary Beasts is the most accepted term for them. It's easier to just use that, as dogs and cats are both BEASTS, so it works even if you believe they're one or the other. It also helps avoid stupid arguments. *Sighs* And last I checked, I wasn't being rude. I was just pointing out that Taluwen's arguement about it was wrong. I wasn't even trying to be offensive.

I have mine named Umbreon to go with my Gondria, Espeon, b/c they are the closest thing to Umbreon around. I also think that they resemble Umbreon more b/c they don't have the huge horns that Houndours do.

My Skoll on Taluwen is named Raikou. :3
'Official name'? I haven't heard ANYTHING on the official name for them. If anything, they're Beasts. Not dogs. Not cats. Heck, they're technically BOTH. Like.. Suicune has the aspects of.. Let's see.. a Maned Wolf... A cheetah... A Unicorn (With its powers of purifying water)... Hmm.. I've always seen it to be similar to the Asian Lung Dragons, but that's propably just me. Anywho.. See? Not a cat or a dog, but both. And heck, even other things thrown in there too! And Entei is a Chinese Lion-Dog. Raikou? It's based on a Japanese creature (Who I can't recall the name of, but it's 'rai-something') that can turn into multiple animals, mostly the form on an electric beast of somesort (Whether it be feline OR canine). So.. Yeah. From what I've seen.. They're the Legendary Beasts.

It's based after a raijou, thier creatures made of wither lighting or fire or may be in the shape of a cat, deer, monkey or weasel, when they fly, they fly in the shape of a lightning or fire ball and thier cries sound like fire.

Where I got the information

I'm sorry just when it comes to made up creatures I have to go all nerdy on it

I definitely approve of this idea. I actually had a similiar idea after someone pointed out that I call my hunter Ash (short for Ashiena), and how that relates to pokemon haha. I've been a huge pokemon geek forever as it took over most of my childhood, so I named my Skoll Raikou and a blue demon dog Suicune (for the small while I had it that is).

I created an undead hunter on Nesingwary named Pokeballs who I am planning on getting pokemon themed pets, but I have been too busy on my main to do it.

And as for the whole 'legendary dogs' thing; I've ALWAYS heard them called legendary dogs, however I feel thats inaccurate. To me, entei = lionish, suicune = sleek panther/cheetahish and raikou = tiger. But many people have called them legendary dogs and it doesn't bother me, and I don't think it should bother anyone else either as this isn't what this thread is about :)

Ruby to the rescue!! XD And don't worry about it, I go crazy over things like this too~ I loooooove explaining what some Pokemon are based on.. Like Ninetales and Froslass! I already love what they're based on, so it's really really awesome to explain it and all!

But yes, thanks for clearing up that, Ruby. I proooobably should've gone and looked up the darn thing myself so I wouldn't be all like 'It's based on something that I can't remember the name of! But seriously, it's based on this thing! Even though I got no idea WHAT this thing is called, this is what it's based on!!' XD

Some of my favourite creatures ever. I LOVE the Legendary Beasts, so YEAH I'm gonna get slightly annoyed when someone calls them the wrong thing.

My comment was not directed at you but to everyone. It's derailing the thread, and to be honest it shouldn't matter to anyone what other people call them, whether you (and I mean in general, not you specifically) agree with it or not. Entei, Raikou and Suicune are three of my favourite pokemon as well and I still call them the legendary dogs because like I said, I have always heard that. Many people call things different names, it shouldn't be a big deal to anyone.

This isn't an attack against you Senna-Umbreon. You quoted me and acted like I was attacking you, which I was not and I wanted to clarify so there are no hurt feelings or anything of that matter. There's no need to feel like people are attacking you because their opinions on the names of things differ, okay? :) I don't think anyone means any harm from it, I know I certainly don't.

Edit: I apologize for derailing the thread more lol so this will be my last reply on the subject and I suggest everyone should do the same and focus on the original purpose of the thread which is pokemon themed hunters. :)

Huh. Gondria...Espeon...

...Be right back, going to tame Gondria and name it Solara. >.>;

Also approve. I had an idea to make a hunter and name it after the RP characters in the pokemon RP we have going on.

I thought Ghost would be a black fox, worg, or panther. See? Lookit. I had a bunch planned out.

Glis: Bat, obviously. A brownish one.
Solara: Gondria, which is what her psyceon form is based off of, ironically. xD
Ghost: Black worg, fox, or panther
Chomp: Likely Gosh-Haldir, then later the blue croc in Pit of Scales
Soundwave: Wasp. http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/silithi ... nblue.html <---That one.
Buzzard: Would probably be a red outlands raptor. Close as I can get, really, without taming Deathwing. >.> Or a red devilsaur could work.

I was more planning on having Ghost be the actual Hunter. Then I can tame a black Devilsaur named Ironskull.. And the two of them can be together all the time! XD

Hmm.. What the HECK would Rust be?! ... Warp Stalker? ... ... Actually, that could kinda work lol

hmmm...well, I want to roll a worgen hunter, I just need to figure out how to get the 800g on my lone horde DK over to my alliance toon so I can delete him to make room.

I did start a Pokemon themed hunter on nessingwary...but it kinda got ruined for me due to the innocent name being reported...I named her Tripinballs...Trip-in-balls, which is a reference to how trainer pokemon travel...but appearently it was to offensive...but some other guys named toon Thegrapist was perfectly acceptable...

So, anyhow, when I get my last slot cleared out and make my hunter, I want to name all the pets after pokemon.
A dragonhawk named Moltres
a Black fox named Umbreon
Stormcrow named Murkrow
A wasp named Beedrill
A moth named butterfree

I am sure as I am going through and leveling i'll see some beasts and find a fitting pokemon comparison for them...though what to name my hunter still eludes me...

Inner childhood and nerdhood initiated.

They're Beasts. Entei is one of those Chinese Lion/dog guardians, Raikou is a tiger, Suicune is a wolf. Entei has the lionesque mane, yet the canine physique. Raikou is a cat no matter how you look at it. Suicune, despite being insanely flamboyant, is a wolf in motion, sound, and overall fanbase. Also, Moltres is a turkey god who's angry at Thanksgiving, Zapdos is the god of all birds fried by telephone wires, and Articuno is the angry turkeys who were frozen too long. True story.

Now, Sambas would be Entei, one of the Saber cats as Raikou, and a Blue runedog would make for Suicune. Nothing really fits Suicune's flamboyance, but whatever. It's a mutt like the runedogs, and nowhere near as cool as any of the actual wolf models.

It's not a matter of thinking, they're confirmed as beasts. Pretty much every modern fansite says that too. Here's their exact origins, brought to you by the only remaining GOOD pokemon fansite, comically a wiki;

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/ ... %29#Origin

"The more (useless info) you know...", as they say.

Also, to keep the thread on track; I had Loque back during early wrath. Named it Mewtwo. Felt like an idiot walking around with it and dismissed it. Do note that this is before I even heard of Certificate of Ownership.

Last thing I'm saying on the subject because Bulbapedia and Serebii used to refer to them as DOGS a long time ago when they first came out.....
Google

OHAI! Look what came up.

Lets stop derailing the thread and being spammy. No one cares really how they're called....Dogs or Beasts, they're the same thing. We know what someone is talking about. In-game, all legendary pokemon are just called that....Legendary Pokemon. So quit arguing or trying to pick fights over pointlessness, okay? Okay.

Back to your scheduled program. *huggles her Raikou(Skoll)*

If no one should care what they're called, then why did YOU start this? You could have just stayed quiet and not even mentioned 'They're DOGS, not Beasts!', but NO, you started this arguement. You were the one picking fights, not me or anyone else, really. Nice going being a hypocrite.
Wrong. Someone said they're cats. I said they were dogs. They didnt argue. YOU did, however. YOU jumped in and bit me for no reason and kept continuing despite others said stop. YOU got the nasty attitude when no one else did. I've even asked you to knock it off a few times. And I was nice and polite. I'm done being nice.

So hello Ignore list.

And just as an FYI, they're called Beasts because it's not really known exactly what they were and theres a huge debate on Serebii forums about it. So to keep from fighting, they called them something general...which was Beast. Most still call them Dogs or Mixbreeds of sorts. (Source)
