Random Pondering: Pet Genders?

Very few of my pets have been female, not sure why ...

My 1-60 companion on my second hunter was named after my first hunter (the first hunter a NE, the cat a nightsaber stalker that I ran my Orc over to tame at level 10), and was always sort of like having my elf running around with me ... so SHE was for sure a "she."

The first pet that really presented a strong feminine persona was actually a bit of a surprise for me. I hadn't been able to click with a devilsaur (despite REALLY wanting to) and tried out one of the white/pink ones. He and I were not getting along very well ... until I realized "he" was actually a "she," and Kaylee became one of Odetta's favorite pets.

Other than that, Tiamat (the Arikara I raided with at 70) was most definitely a girl but I don't think any of my current pets are female.

As far as it goes, yes most of my pets are males, ironicly- I play a female Worgen.. So, I guess I go to Veph's theory there. I mostly go by there looks, how I can see there personality, and I try to put lore in as well. For instance, Loque would be a female if he didnt have a mate sitting in Zul'drak. So yea.. Haha :3

Well, back when I had just 2, 3, or 5 pets, I'd name them, and then base their genders on how the name sounded. Even back then, when people asked me the gender of some of my pets, I'd have to think about it. Now that I have 25, and my current naming scheme has led to a lot of neutral sounding names, I'm realizing that I just don't care what their gender is. As I'm not trying to mate with them, it just doesn't matter. Also, since I really seem to be into bugs this expansion, I'd have to bring in an entomologist to do the equivalent of lifting their tail

in general, most of my hunters pets seem to come across as male, even Karoma. Gondria most def. seems female of me, and no matter what the game says, Nuramoc's female to me too. My fox, spiders (reg and shale) all seem male as well.

I kind of go with whatever I feel like with each particular pet. That being said, most of mine end up being male.

For the most part, mine are male. I think it must go along with what Veph described; being female, I like having a strong male presence, especially considering I'm BM and the focus is on the pet. The few females I have (I think three?) are female because they very strongly seemed female immediately when I tamed them.

Gondria, while certainly appearing feminine and having a feminine mob name, is female because I RP'd her as the spirit of the long-deceased sister of Shy'rotam (like one of the lavender saber cats out there in Winterspring). Plus, I RP'd that when I let Tetsusaiga go (zomg, so glad to have him back now) out there, he took Shy'rotam as his mate (and became to be known as Sian'rotam to humanoids), so he and Shikon are related by "marriage", too (hence why both have names derived from Inu Yasha). It was like one big family. Hmm, I may have to go get Shy'rotam now.....lol.

Rainey, my Strider Clutchmother, is female to me because of her mob name. Plus, seeing her all these years I've been playing, always having a fondness for her, and referring to her as "she" this whole time, I just couldn't shake that when I tamed her. Plus when I picked out the perfect name for her, it all just came together very well.

My spider, Naphthali, is female. Originally she was a mob called a Razzashi Broodwidow in Zul'Gurub (and they no longer exist), which had somewhat an effect on why she's female. But it was mostly because as soon as I tamed her, she had this very "motherly" feel to her, like she would protect me like a mother would their offspring. And she has lived up to that protective nature, for sure, being the only pet I've ever had to stand on mining nodes as if to keep people from stealing them from me (back when you had to strike them multiple times, leaving them open to thieves).

I'm trying to think if I have any more females, but I really think that's it.

20 female, 20 male. Pretty even overall, although it's 7 female / 14 male on my lvl85 hunter and 13 female / 6 male on my little goblin hunter, for some reason. Huh.

For Dara most of her pets are male. ...*pause to count* Scratch that, at current ten of her pets are female, weird.

Anyway, for the longest time, aside from her first pet, Duskstalker-turned-Mira, she didn't click with any pets I registered as female. Then, when Mira and I parted ways, thus began a streak of all-male pets. It wasn't until Tesla(Skoll) showed up that I had a female pet. Even that was a surprise, though. Until I tamed her, I'd always referred to Skoll as a male, and in the wild I see him as a male, but my tamed one is a lady.

There -are- pets I always seem to default to as female, though. Crocs, shale spiders, and dragonhawks are always female in my mind.

I have a wide variance and base it on the animals personality, looks etc etc.

Of course Skoll, Loque, King Dred and those guys remained male but several of raptors if not all of them are female. For me it even depends on what their wild name appears them to be. I generally tame a rare and keep it's given name so like Old Cliff Jumper was left male while Gondria (when I had her) kept her given name and was left female. Arcturis was renamed Osa but stayed male.

I really don't determine what sex they are until all the WoW stars align. lmao Most of my pets however are rare spawns so they're sex is almost predetermined unless, to me, it really doesn't fit them. Right now I'm mildly hunting Ghostcrawler but don't think I'll keep him 'male'. We'll see.

I usually figure out whether a pet is male or female after I tame him/her. It all depends on the individual pet, its Hunter, and the overall vibe I get from it. It's then named accordingly. I think I overall have a fairly even number of male and female pets.

Depends on the gut feeling I get when I tame the pet... if there are no other defining characteristics. All the maned lions are, of course, male. No way they can be female with manes, so that choice is made for me.

Funny thing is, between both my hunters, if they have any pets that overlap... they can actually be different.

Nelf huntress has Diseased Hawk and it's male, name Pharaoh.
Forsaken huntress has Diseased Hawk and it's female, name Isis.

Terrorpene (Tinderbox) is female... I think because I always associate turtles with the Great Earth Mother that some mythologies/religions mention.

Gah, make that four females! I tamed Rak'shiri on a whim today, wasn't even looking for her and didn't honestly want her (had actually had her previously and let her go when she switched to white). But it appears fate had a different idea.

Meet Tenseiga, my lion Tetsusaiga's new mate! He left Shy'rotam to tend to their cubs after returning to me after a long time separated. He had left to raise a pride of his own, and came back to me after his dream had been fulfilled. Shy wanted to stay behind, since that had been her home, and raise the cubs there. But while we were visiting one day, Tetsusaiga spotted a white feline beauty amongst the endless reaches of snow - Rak'shiri. Rak'shiri was an outsider trying to find a place to call home. She was calm, gentle, and beautiful inside and out, and Tetsusaiga was smitten. She had nowhere else to go, and longed for a pride or family of her own, so she joined us. While Tetsusaiga cared deeply for Shy'rotam, Tenseiga is the love of his life. :3

I don't make my pets a certain gender, they just are that gender and I go along with it, or at least that's the way it feels. I get a vibe from the wild mob or the tamed pet and I go with it. I don't have a preference. I do have more males than females at the moment, but not by much. On a semi-related note, all of my first/main pets are female. Taizak has Nalini (Dishu), who's been with her since level 13. Cailan has Khali (Springpaw Stalker), who's been with her since level 16. Liora has Arini (Brilliant Macaw), who hasn't been with her that long but is still her main pet. My old night elf hunter had Shegra (Durotar Tiger) from level 10, my old male blood elf hunter had Kalista (Strigid Screecher), my first draenei hunter had Ophelia (Nightstalker) from level 10... I'm not sure what that means, or if it means anything, but it's interesting to me!

Numa... rare pink/purple chimera), and TwoD (Ashtail) are all males. A few of them even say "...is a boy!" when I use the macro. Though Chowder says girl =( dangit. Oh well.

Agarina (Gondria), Jooniper (pink firefly), LifeIsSweet (Aotona), Maexxna (Jadefang), Noodle (purple summoned warpstalker), and Panini (Shy Rotam) are my females. I don't have many, and Rina and Sweetie are female based on their untamed models oozing femininity. Jadefang just seems like a female to me as well. Jooniper needed to be a she so my "Benni and Jooniper" would work properly. Shy Rotam, I believe, is described as a female. The warpstalker is a "huntress", so that left no wiggle room.

But I generally do not get along with girls, hence my pets being mostly male =\

How do you figure out what a ravager is? You watch which restroom they go to.
