Re: Random "Pet Theme" Challenge
First up is the purple-y beetle!

Here I am, trying to decide which one I want...

I tamed this guy and named him Steve! Here you can see how they sorta curl up when they attack sometimes. Makes me think of a pill bug.

Steve is VERY pretty. I love how the blues and purple come together to give him a real jewel/precious stone type look. I also love his purple eyes!

Here we met up with an old friend.

I went to Winterspring to get my next pet and wasn't sure where to go. Steve pointed me in the right direction.

Next up is the purple kittah!

I love how he blends in PERFECTLY and my dark-colored orc-ness is painfully obvious.

OH GOD MY FACE

I named him bitey because of that last screenshot... He's so gorgeous. When I first saw this pet in-game wayyyy back in pre-BC I knew I had to have it. It took me FOREVER to get up to his level [used to be 59 and 60] and finally snagged one.

I just have to say that I really really REALLY love how his nails are PURPLE. It's like... he got a kitty pedicure!

Super kittyyyy!

Here we are in Org. He just sticks out SO MUCH when he's with me. He's this graceful, light colored, purple cat and I'm some green orc. He's so elegant that I just can't keep him. He's definitely one I'm keeping reserved for my night elf and possibly a blood elf. Everything about him is smooth and graceful and I think that's why I love him the most. Something about him just makes me happy and he's probably my favorite cat models [and I have a LOT of cats, lol]. Anyway, Bitey was let go. I know he'll be out there in Winterspring just waiting for one of my alts... and I will probably call him Bitey on one of my alts.

I will work on part two soon!
Re: Random "Pet Theme" Challenge

I'm not going to lie... I really don't like the build of these guys. They feel extremely out of proportion to me and I just don't like they way they're put together.

I tamed one and here he is attempting to poke my eye out. That's why I named him Pokey.

Blechh! I don't like him. I don't like his stick legs. They're so creepy looking to me! His eyes also creep me out.

I did like the patterns on his wings, though. That's probably the only thing I liked, lol. Pokey is really just a PvP pet for me. His stun [with BM it's 31.5s CD] would be SUCH a pain in the butt if someone stuck him on me. Since he has that and intimidation, he can stun all the damned time! I guess I can see where he could be useful in PvE but I think wolf, cat and other buffs bring much more to the table than a stun ever will. I ended up letting Pokey go. Something about him just really makes me not like having him with me. I can see how some people can get attached to him but his model just doesn't cut it for me.
My last pet was the purple nether ray!

I was already in Zangarmarsh so I grabbed Count Ungula.

He is much bigger in person...

I named him Tippy and took this chance to look at him closely. He has lots of sharp teeth and knows how to use them.

He wanted a "MySpace pic" so here you go... Very creepy.

It was hard to get a good shot of his back but here you can see the coloring and patterns on his back. I really like the purple on him!

I took Tippy with me to TB to do some dailies and he did really well. He isn't "smart" like the gorilla [casting his interrupt only when mobs are casting] so I took it off auto and used it when I needed it.

I always have to sneak out of these underground places or else I aggro everything... But you can see how Tippy looks in the stealth thing. The glowy things on his head and tummy can be seen along with his outline and it looks really cool! I really liked Tippy a lot but I did let him go. I don't PvP much so I don't have much use for him. I'm considering going out and getting the red one because he will match with my orc more. Anyway, this challenge really showed me that nether rays can be awesome pets. Tippy was great and his moves were so fluid, sort of like he was just swimming in the air...
Anyway, hope you enjoyed reading because I enjoyed the challenge!

Re: Random "Pet Theme" Challenge

I think I'll start with Barney the raptor.

I headed to the Barrens and low and behold, as I got there, Takk was running around.

I had to wait a good minute for him to actually do a leap since I hadn't seen his new changes.
Anyway, Barney was the only other raptor around besides Takk so I decided to give him a friend. He wasn't sold on the idea at first.

This guy's looks are the reason I've always ended up thinking of them as Barney, but I'm really surprised to find that I like the way he looks.

The purple on his hide matches Venjin's hair and I like his blue stripes and teal jewelry. The model itself is solid with no real big issues. The only thing that looks weird to me is their shoulders. I can't figure out whether it's a skin flaw or a weird piece of jewelry.
Raptors are quiet by your side, but they're pretty noisy in combat so if you prefer a quieter pet, I'd recommend a serpent for the same debuff. I like their animations. By your side they always seem ready for combat and when in combat, they do a neat little jump kick when casting Tear Armor.

Next is Lollipop the red (I mean pink) serpent.

Wowhead's map for these guys makes it look like they're all over southern Tanaris when they're actually kind of few and far between. I found a guy slithering by his lonesome and made him a friend.

As for looks, I'm really not fond of these guys. The red and shine of their scales is just too bright for me.

The only thing I like on these guys is their blue eyes. Their faces are also pretty bugged, their teeth are sticking through their lips or something weird.

As for animations, I really like snakes. They just look from side to side for their idle, tongue flickering, of course. They make no noises next to your side and make a hiss as they go in combat, good pets for owners who like quiet beasts. They slither next to your side as you run, and, like worms, have a very cool swim.

The serpent debuff reduces armor by 4% and stacks to three times; great for a group where you don't have a warrior or rogue for sunders. I suppose it's hit or miss soloing--it'll help our autoshots and Steady Shot, I think, I'm not sure about what, if anything, else.
Overall, I really like serpents. I've had trouble clicking with raptors so serpents have been a good alternative for me. However, I won't be keeping Lollipop on Venjin as I already have a serpent named Putricide to go with Rotface and Festergut.

Re: Random "Pet Theme" Challenge

I opted to go to Southern Barrens and grab one of the standard tallstriders instead of Mazz.

I love tallstriders and this guy is no exception. I love the way the pink and black look together.

Tallstriders are very intelligent, proud, and noble looking creatures.
I love tallstrider animations. They are pretty quiet by your side. Every now and then they'll clean themselves or give a little silent caw. They look like ostriches when they run, which is rather fitting. And when they swim and go into combat, it's adorable. When they swim, they kick with those powerful legs, flap with their useless little wings, and they sort of use their head to help propel them.

Their ability, dust cloud, reduces enemy melee and ranged attack speed, another useful debuff if your tank is taking excessive damage from melee mobs in a dungeon.
Pinky won't be staying with Venjin as I fell in love with Itty, the gray tallstrider from a previous challenge.
Next is Brain, the pink dragonhawk.

A trip out to Shadowmoon later nabbed me Brain. These guys are really pretty. They're sort of a fleshy pink color that turns into a darker pink and then purple.

Like tallstriders, dragonhawks are proud, noble creatures. This guy's green eyes complement his face.
Dragonhawks sit quietly by your side, flapping their wings and looking from side to side. They fly smoothly by your side when you run and they swim the same way.
Fire breath increases magic damage by 8% making these guys great pets for caster groups and SV hunters. I probably won't be keeping Brain on Venjin as I really like Icicle the dark blue wind serpent.
Last is Bayne, the pink demon dog.

I've had Bayne before but got rid of him because I can't get over some of the flaws of the old demon dog models. I'll start with color first; Bayne has a cute pinky-purple skin with a teal mane and blackish legs. Overall, pretty cute.

My big issues with the model are the way their legs and feet look compared to the rest of their body (and how part of their hind legs look way too skinny), their 2-D low res "mane" (most of it's just painted on their skin), and the way that their jaws unhinge when they do their idle.

Makes for an icky combo for me and it's stuff I can't unsee. I prefer the runed demon dogs to these guys.
Demon dogs actually have pretty cute animations. They jump in place at your side and they have a cute run. When going into combat, they make a little snarl, but other than that they're pretty quiet.
Lock Jaw is their special ability which is a channeled pin. This ability shines in PvP although its greatest downfall is that it's channeled which leaves the pet unable to generate any aggro or able to do anything but Lock Jaw.
Bayne will not be staying with Venjin as I'm not a big fan of his looks or family special.

Re: Random "Pet Theme" Challenge
I have two hunters available:
Legless, lvl 85 Blood Elf with many many pet slots available
Tisiphany, lvl 68 or 69 Worgen Hunter with some slots (I forget how many, but enough) available.
The only thing I ask is that I'd really prefer not to do 'creepy' pets.
And if it helps, I love wierd/uncommon colors and color-change pets but I'll be happy to try any pet you want to assign me.

Re: Random "Pet Theme" Challenge
I'll start with the green tarantula.

So yeah, this guy's name is still Spider; apologies to people who loathe people who don't name their pets, but I don't have a connection with him. Anyway, on to the report. The tarantula models don't scare me on sight the way some of the spindly leg spiders will, but they still kinda weird me out enough to not tame them. Although, the reason I can't ever keep them is more due to model errors than it is with them being spiders strangely enough.
So...frontal view...This guy's eyes feel so...lifeless, and all the little black claws and stuff are so low res looking. About the only thing I liked on this guy was the purple acid. XD

Something interesting I noticed on the side view is how goofed up their leg positioning looks.

You can't see it in the shot very well, but all their legs seem to come out of one central point on their body, and thus when they move them, they clip over each other.
The hair on their bodies is also really low res and 2-D looking, resulting is a pokey looking model.

For sounds and animations, I'm not overly fond of the tarantula models. I hate the squish sound they make when they walk and I dislike the fact that when you see them run from behind, they look like vibrators. I forgot to nab a screenshot of the green spider swimming so I'm going to steal the one from my human hunter's pet diary.

The spider special is handy for PvP and can have its uses in PvE. Kinda nice to hold a mob in place while I blow its face off. I didn't end up keeping Spider because I'm waiting for

Next is Raptor, the green raptor.

I both like and dislike the green raptor skin. I'm a little sad that they don't have much in the way of jewelry, but it is nice that their eyes are smaller than some of the other raptor models.

The green color's not bad and the orange stripes are okay. The scaling detail is nice, but my biggest complaint with the old raptor models is the way the shoulder stripe stretches way out over their shoulder and makes it look like a bad piece of jewelry.
And due to having smaller eyes, when looking at them from the front, they actually look like proper predators.

I like raptor animations, they always look ready to fight and protect by your side. They're noisy combat fighters though so if you like quiet pets these guys probably aren't for you. They do an awesome jump kick while fighting and their swim looks good too. Tear Armor is a great PvE ability when you don't have a warrior for sunders and can be useful in a group PvP situation.
I won't be keeping the green raptor as I much prefer Aladar, my Takk.

Report on the wind serpent soon to come. Also, it turns out that the Silithid Harvester is level 34 and not 24 so I'll be stealing Fiona's report on the green turtle and using it for here.

Re: Random "Pet Theme" Challenge

I ran my little goblin legs all the way out to the lake these guys spawn in and tried to make friends with the first one I saw.

Named her Appletini in keeping with the sort of theme I have going on for Fiona and set up to take some screenshots. Both Appletini and I are low to the ground which makes taking screenshots a bit of a challenge.

The old world turtles do have a bit of a derpy look to their face, but I find it rather charming. I also like the green color of this turtle and the yellow shell seems to complement it well.

You can definitely tell these guys are vanilla models. The shell almost looks as if it was stitched together and there's a big piece on top that looks like a cork or something. Their claws are also low res, but on the bright side, they have real teeth and the scaling detail looks nice.

The yellow shell also gets very bright and shiny in bright lighting situations.

Turtle animations are very adorable. They may look a little derpy, but they try so very hard for you! ^_^ They're quiet by your side and stretch their neck as they idle, almost as if they're keeping a look out.

Very waddly and dopey; suiting for them.
When it came to fighting, poor Appletini was three levels below me and tried very valiantly to keep aggro off of me, even though it didn't work so well. I know that as she levels up she will turn into a great tank and that she just needs some practice being a guard turtle.

Overall, I really love Appletini. She has a ton of personality and she looks really good with Fiona. She'll definitely be my solo pet for a while as I just hit 18 and can now carry an extra pet on me for dungeons.

Okay, on to the wind serpent. First, this is Lilo.

And now, this is Lilo with an acid wash.

I liked the yellow wind serpent, but its not befitting of Yzma's theme. The green one isn't either, but it's closer than the yellow. As for looks, the green is a very bright, lime green color with Mountain Dew yellow highlights. She's also got very pretty light blue eyes.

From behind, along her back are some darker green stripes mixed in with the yellow. They look very nice as an offset to the other colors.

Wind serpents are quiet by your side and they just flap there. When you run, they fly by your side in a rather smooth movement.

They also look absolutely beautiful when they swim.

Lightning Breath is also a really great PvE ability for groups that are caster heavy. Lightning Breath also boosts SV damage, making them the second best pet for SV hunters after a cat.
I'll be keeping Lilo green for now until I decide which color I decide to have her molt into.
I'll take one of these for Fiona.
