To be honest, I think this would be the smartest route about it. It was hinted that hydras were one of the like top three (or top five) most requested pets when Blizzard asked the hunter community what they wanted to become tamable. If Blizzard made hydras exotic only, that would be like a huge slap in the face to all the people who wanted hydras but hate BM.

Keep in mind that this is all speculation off of datamined information that has been pulled off of MMO twice now. As far as we know, that buff description is a placeholder. Even if it's not, there are other buffs that are provided by three different families (the bleed debuff from hyenas, boars, and rhinos comes to mind), so it wouldn't be completely unheard of.

The slap in the face comments are for if hydras became exotics. :)
But yes, you are correct that if they did give a third pet the crit buff, it's not like 3 pets don't already provide a useless debuff. :P

*nod* I got that, Tyger. :) All I was saying was that we don't have a clue as to what the devs plan to do with the family, assuming this does get off the ground. All that we do know is that MMO didn't unearth a second hydra family ability, only the one - which may or may not mean anything. ;)

And hey, the bleed debuff is far from useless for a marks hunter! xD (And for the purposes of keeping this thread from being derailed, just ignore rhinos, who as we know need work.)

Teehee, sorry Kalli. :P

I'm really hoping hydras will be non-exotic. I would say I would prefer them to have a debuff/buff we don't already have, however, my brain blanked on any ideas I might have had that hunters don't have already. :(
Perhaps the MS debuff on a non-exotic for those who don't want to use widow venom?

I'd love to see a ferocity pet with the Magic debuff!

No worries, Tyger! ;) Hunters actually do get a TON of options to begin with, which is what makes further expansions to the pet family abilities so difficult. Maybe a tenacity pet with sunder....

Oh yes, a tenacity pet with a sunder or a ferocity pet with the magic debuff would be lovely! :D

Oh oh oh! Or maybe some type of AoE ability where they use all three of their heads in an attack?

Hydra will almost certainly become an exotic. I mean, it screams exotic.

There's no proof of this other than individual player speculation.

This would be cool too! Although that does strike me as an exotic ability, rather than a regular family one. I suspect the reason only exotic pets are getting AoE abilities is because the AoE damage on marks/surv hunters would be ridiculous if the pet had it too. Still a good idea, of course; just not one the anti-exotic camp probably wants to hear atm. xD

There's plenty of proof by looking over what Blizzard considers exotic and hydras undoubtedly fit that mold. And a cunning pet to boot.

Ok, I haven't posted in awhile, but I have one thing to say about this:
Hydra

* Bellowing Roar: New
* Tamed Pet Passive (DND): New
[/quote]

Tamed Pat Passive is NOT a skill! It's a passive "hidden aura" that gives our pets their type between Cunning, Ferocity and Tenacity. All 3 Tamed Pet Passive "skills" where showing for a long time on Wowhead before they decided to remove them from the skill list when we're viewing the hunter pets list. So as of right now, unless someone manage to datamine a second skill for the Hydras, they should be normal pets that doesn't require us to be BM to tame. And hopefully this might also make some hunters tame them instead of wolves, since apparently some hunters didn't get the memo that they're not the be all end all pets to use (might vary depending on servers, but on Thunderhorn US I still see a crap ton of MM hunters with wolves, while BM and SV uses a lot more variety in their pet choices).

No offense, but this was already discussed earlier in the thread. :)
And by this I mean the "Tamed Pet Passive" not being a secondary special and being something pets have innately.

That's an interesting take on it. But I still say they'll end up exotic. The circumstances are just too great. Cunning doesn't have a 3rd exotic option, like the other 2 trees. I mean, either way I'll be pleasantly surprised.

There is actually no real proof until Blizzard chooses whether or not they want to make hydras tamable and exotic or not. :)

If you want to base this all on "but look at way the animal LOOKS", take a peek at dragonhawks. Now go look at the worms.
Which pet, honestly, looks more exotic? Worms are fairly plain. Dragonhawks are flashy and fly, ala chimeras. Which are exotic. If you're trying to say "I want them to be exotic only", say it. But for the rest of us who have been begging for hydras for years and get them only to be told we have to play a certain spec to use them, that seems really lousy. I was pretty bummed when devilsaurs were made exotic only, hopefully Blizzard won't pull another "You can FINALLY tame them! ...But only in this spec!" stunt. Then again, I'm the only hunter who doesn't like exotic-only pets, and feels that's only there as a sure-fire way to make people play BM...
