So... question:

Blizzard put int he Savage Raptor, which is a raptor with the red devilsaur skin, would it be possible to put the other devilsaur skins on the model? Have been trying to imagine a green devilsaur skin raptor but its not cooperating with my mind very well. xD

Hey Wain, see if some of those piggies can get put in! They'd look great with trolls or some of the brighter hair colors for NE, orcs, and even Forsaken.

Thanks for your comments on the piggies It's funny that more people liked the dark/drab ones, as most of the ones in the game are oversaturated and bright, and I had tried to follow that for most of the ones I made.

The following are just some pics I'm uploading for my next post. Please ignore for the moment:

Well since I did wyverns, it was only fair I tried gryphons as well

Gryphons were even harder than wyverns to get decent skins for, but WAY more fun. The gryphon model seems far more detailed, less blocky than the wyvern one. But also because they're half birds (and bird plumage can range anywhere from drab to shiny and bright) you can get away with some really interesting colours.

One problem I ran into early on was the beak. For some reason the beak texture on the black gryphon looks as if someone sloshed a broad paintbrush across it a few times (the other two colours are not like this). It's not so obvious with the in-game skin, but when you apply other colours and shades it starts to look terrible. And because I'd used parts of the black skin in most of mine, the effect started to contaminate everything. As a result, many of the gryphons ended up with beaks that were copied, recoloured and pasted from decent beaks. I also used a lot more adjusting of the hue/saturation/lightness than I ever had in the past. It was just too hard to get passable colours any other way. It was a fun learning experience.

Anyway, on with the skins!

Firstly a few basic colours with light bodies; blue, tan, rose and purple. The first blue is my original, but I started to like the indigo/silver combo on the second and decided I couldn't leave it out:


A rich gold and brown. Texture like... well, marigolds I guess:


A couple of stately sombre colours. Burgundy, and olive green:


High on the icy slopes of Ironforge, a rare frost gryphon:


Some strong but dark plumage, with dark bodies...
Crimson (inspired by a parrot):

Old Gold (never planned this one, it just kind of happened):

Cobalt (also parrot-inspired):


Another tropical parrot-inspired one. Emerald with orange highlights. I can imagine it down in a steamy jungle:


Lastly, two very bright ones. Perhaps too bright. The originals almost left permanent scars on my retinas. Rather than discard them I decided to tone them down a bit and post them anyway Again, I can imagine these in a tropical environment (or up in Eversong Woods!).

A variant on the purple-black bear (derived from the TCG mount) I posted earlier.... Another friend requested it with no tan markings at all, so even the muzzle to be black. I was a bit worried that with the lack of colour it'd lose all expression, but it didn't come out too badly I think:

Oh my goodness! I LOVE that all black color! I've never been real fond of the tan markings so I think this looks fabulous!

Hee, I like some of the earlier versions better for myself, but can absolutely appreciate the truly all-black bear. Still so much life in the eyes, regardless of the colorations.

I know you were after the version Spiritbinder did for you with the eyebrows plucked (poor bear!), but I have another friend who wanted complete black. I wasn't sure if I could do it right, but it seems to be ok.

I knew it wasn't for me. Just had to say that I'm sticking with the other! xD This one does look lovely, though. There's a lot to be said for the even more "natural" bears.

I'd have to say, that my favorite gryphons, (even though they are all pretty dam spectacular, I mean really!) would have to come down to about 4....ish....

The Marigold one, I know it's bright but that's what makes it, it's just stunning in all the good ways. The other thing I like about it is that it's not specifically anything. It's not fire based, or holy based, or sun based or any theme per say, yet it would fit in any of those well enough.... I just like it dammit.

I quite like the stately somber colored ones too, I keep jumping between both colours, but I would have to settle on the burgundy as it was probably the one that caught my eye 1st... maybe

The frost one... YUMMY!!!!! I'm aware we already have a white one but there is something much more peaceful/strong and beautiful about this one. Maybe it's just the blue shimmers in the wings, (I do like the blue stuff ) but I reaaaaly like it.

And last but by no means least, the crimson one, wow.... just wow. There is no mount like it out there (colour wise) and I really wish there was. It is such a stand out job.

In fact all of them are Wain, you've done so much work here, but I tell you it certainly paid off, they are all just awesome!!!!!!!
