Re: Mounts in Legion
The beta's about to hit, and it STILL seems like 99% of the mounts they put in are wretched pvp crap. There's a couple from professions, the raid cheevos (yeah right I'll get those super soon), the ruinously expensive spider... and like 1000000 pvp mounts.
They even TOOK OUT the falcosaurs. And the chicken! And most of the ones that are left are limited (the fish), reskins (the ghost moose/fel corehound/hippogriffs), or just not very interesting. And the fox still has its reins BOLTED INTO ITS NECK WHAT THE HELL BLIZZARD.

Re: Mounts in Legion
As much as I dislike rep grinds, some reasonable ones are what keep me invested for quite awhile.
Who knows though, they might just make all four either a raid mount or a super rare drop and call it a day :/
I haven't been keeping up with everything due to wow burnout.. But as legion gets closer I'm definitely gaining more interest.

...yeah. Still pretty salty.
The storm drakes are cool but honestly the storm drakes from Cata had more visual interest. The new ones are pretty neat models but they're -boring-... no patterns, no decoration, nothing. They're pretty bland, even if their actual model is nifty.

Re: Mounts in Legion
I love the storm drakes personally, especially the fact they currently stand up straight and aren't hunched close to the ground like other drakes. But the unicorns are awesome.

Re: Mounts in Legion
This is so true. You can get Honor slowly without much PvP at all. I'm not sure if "Prestige" ranks will require anything more than that, but maybe not.Xota wrote:There has often been ways to farm honor points that aren't as pvp stressful for people who prefer to pvp as little as possible (eg: "pvp" quests on isle of thunder, honor/conquest tokens in WoD). It's usually a little slower or more expensive, but don't give up hope just yet.
But as people keep saying, I'm really hoping for non-armoured ones. Maybe just a light saddle in a Night Elf style (like the hippogryphs).
Re: Mounts in Legion
But I agree with the having an unarmored or lightly armored version.
Since the old [not a] unicorn mount was called "Quel'dorei" steed, but not available to characters from Quel'Thalas, I'd give horde a light colored unicorn with red/orange highlights, and alliance a grey colored unicorn with blue highlights. With no armor/tack, because real Gilneans don't use tack. (and who better than werewolves to get unicorns).

Re: Mounts in Legion
There are, as people have noticed, a small handful of very expensive items on vendors in Legion. This isn't anything fundamentally new - the original Kirin Tor Signet Ring cost a small fortune in relative terms when it first came out in Wrath, as did the Grand Expedition Yak in Mists.
When it comes to cosmetic items and convenience perks, they vary tremendously by source, both in terms of playstyle and degree of difficulty. Some are widely-earned rewards, some were simply a matter of being around at the right time (e.g. the Onyxian Whelpling), others require tremendous skill (Gladiator mounts, Mythic raid mounts from current content), while others require a combination of persistence and luck (Time-Lost Proto Drake, Elegon's mount, etc.). Some require you to engage in PvP, others require raiding, others require extensive outdoor gameplay, or profession use. And some require a sustained and concerted effort to accumulate a ton of gold.
Besides, think of it as a favor to all the arachnophobes out there - do you really want massive spiders skittering around everywhere?
Just to be clear, I agree that the Mad Merchant isn't going to serve as a very effective gold sink. But that's because he isn't intended to be one in any meaningful sense. Gold sinks, in an MMO economic sense, are primarily things like repair costs, the Auction House tariff, and a range of useful expensive items that still fall within the price range of many guild banks and gold-rich players. In this case, a handful of very wealthy players may dump a large portion of their gold reserves into this one vendor, but that's ultimately a blip in the grand scheme of the WoW economy.
If we wanted to drain as much gold as possible out of the economy using these items, we'd be pricing them differently. If the Blackfang Widow cost 200k, I'd wager that far more than 10x as many would be sold. Inflation is a concern, but that's a battle that will be waged on many other fronts. This is just a crazy merchant. The point of the items is to be ludicrously expensive, just as the point of something like the Time-Lost Proto Drake is to be ludicrously rare (if you think about it, a multi-day respawn that shares a spawn point with a more common variant and has a zone-wide patrol is pretty insane...). Some of the vendor's details may be tweaked, and there's been very good feedback in the thread on the relative attractiveness of the different items, but the 2mil price tag for the mount is not likely to change.

Re: Mounts in Legion
Yeahh... it's pretty lame. I'm hoping that in Legion gold is even easier to make than in WoD, but without garrisons I'm not sure how that'll be the case. It took me years just to make the two million gold I have now, and while granted a lot came from reselling and playing the auction house, a huge chunk came from the garrisons as well. There's just no way I'm spending all of my hard earned gold on the spider mount and leaving myself with nothing, unless I somehow double the amount I have currently in Legion... but even then, I'd rather save up and blow it all on a retired mount instead. (But I won't be able to do that now, either, since people with more gold than I have will be able to bid way over gold cap on the BMAH now ;s)Vephriel wrote:I'm not sure if this has already been discussed somewhere, but guh....I am crushed right now. ;-; I just learned that the gorgeous Blackfang Widow mount is going to cost 2 million gold...and that isn't a typo. I just... don't get it. It's a gorgeous model, don't get me wrong, but aside from being unique what justifies it being two million gold? It doesn't have vendors, nor is it a two seater. And why did the price have to jump so much for the gold sink mount anyways? Why not go to 300-500k after the yak and motorcycle (for alliance)?

Le fuck zhitz Blizzard, who was the bitchgobblet who came up with this idea? Seriously, if you're gonna put it at that amount you might as well just make it an in store mount. That's just absolutely ridiculous.

Re: Mounts in Legion
I'm just especially upset because it's the first and possibly only spider mount and I wanted it so badly. ;-;
