@guntitan you have a very sexy UI! gz on your tame
About the arena thing. I didn't do anything special, just called it out and it was normal instead of having the oil. I did relog and dismissed and called it again when I was back in Dalaran. It didn't help. I know it was tested before, but since it's a bit of a bug that has him keep the oil, I'm sure that he can just bug and loose it. At least I only needed to run 4 instances to level him again for the raid.
I don't play arena seriously. A friend just asked if I could come help a 3v3 team so they could get their points. So that's why I used my wolf and not a pvp pet. Tactic: nuke and hope you don't die. lol, well it worked some of the time hahaha.

So I am guessing that you were able to grab another one?
Grats.
I am not too worried about my Alliance hunter because I just won't complete that quest and will always be able to go get him again if I need to...
My Horde hunter, on the other hand.... I moved one of my less used Alliance characters from my main account to my second account (and to my Horde server) in order to dual box the quest ... but I won't be keeping my second account open longer than a month so if I lose the wolf there I'll have to pay another $15 to get him back...

I need more hunters, IMO.

*sigh* After days of sitting at the quest giver, I finally found someone willing to stick around. We tried it at least 20 times, but always I was either a split second too soon or too late.
First I trapped the wolf and waited till the trap had a bit over 6 seconds left before starting the tame. The other person was standing at max range and threw the meat at 7 seconds - I figured it didn't matter when they threw it as long as the wolf was trapped at the time. Some tames ended in a golden flash, others with the wolf despawning too soon, showing that my timing was mere split seconds off. :(
Hey is there an Alliance ppl on Draka who could help me with this? I know theres a nelf from Possesed that reads this forum. I wondering if he/she could help with this. Please and thanks
I tamed one last night on my alt ally hunter on Argent Dawn. Took an hour and I died once. She's got 0 haste and was fresh from turning level 70. But it can be done with the below method it just takes time. What really took the longest was avoiding getting beat up and finding level 70's which seemed like were in hiding. I just had to test it and see.
Aquillian wrote:I don't think you need haste to do this. I've been freezing them and then hitting tame beast when the trap has ~7 seconds left... so far I've alternated between the tame going off right before it despawns/loses the oil, and it being a milisecond too late. I think with luck, if I keep trying, it'll work.
EDIT: I was right! I got it!
Things I learned: You can freeze them then use the bait. This screws the timing up though. You want to throw a freeze trap out, use the meat, watch the timer drop until it reads "7" seconds left, immediately smack tame beast. Hitting it as it goes to 7 is too soon... I hit it right before it was going to drop to 6 seconds left. Some wolves randomly despawn, nothing you can do about that. And it'll still probably take several tries.
EDIT TWO: A few more thoughts. With the haste on my gear (...which is pretty bad XD) my tame beast spell lasted about 19.5 seconds I believe. So, depending on yours, you may need to vary the timing a bit. Watch when the wolf starts to run away from you... you want that to happen when there's 1-2 seconds left on the tame. The wolf keeps the buff "oil coat" after taming, and I checked and found that yes, others do see the effect, not just you. I named mine Antimatter 8)
Also there was no frost trap launcher so I had to drop the trap, let wolf run in, at 10 seconds left on frost trap feed wolf, 7 seconds hit tame.
So this is truly the best method if you're running with very little to no haste. I didn't take SS's last night but might tonight.
With the idea of sharing information in mind, I made a tutorial on how to get the oil covered wolf. I hope this helps anyone here who still hasn't gotten it.
It's weird how people are saying wait til 7seconds left on trap to start tame (even without haste), but on both of my characters I have it on I had to start taming at about 9.5sec left on ice trap... if I waited any longer than that the wolf ran off without me finishing the tame...
This was done on my 71 (no haste gear) alliance hunter and my 80 (haste gear removed) horde hunter, both times I had to start tame at around 9.5sec...
I guess results vary.... maybe server lag? No clue.
BTW... my Alliance wolf is named "Limbo" and his horde counterpart is named "Nothing" (Orc's name is Tapeworm... how many of you will get the reference... my avatar is a clue... =) )

This is a copy and paste of my post under another thread just letting you guys know that you can still tame this guy in beta as normal
"So I've been coming to this website for while now but never made an account or posted on here but my new love for this void wolf pet has allowed me the chance to contribute to all the great stuff I've found on this site.
I got to admit this took about 3 times as long as it did on my horde live toon just f or the fact I did it without trap launcher. Plus having the premade character with around 550 base haste I had to adjust and find the new timer on it(which depending on your trap position was inbetween the 5-6 second mark for me).
There ya have it"

hey buddy, how did you manage to get the pet with a horde character? Does paid faction changes work?

You need to recruit help from an alliance player Northy. Just tag along with them when they are doing the quest and coordinate putting down your freezing traps whith them throwing the meat (vent or realID works for this)
Basically from that point the taming mechanics work just the same as if you were Alliance
