Well I wasn't here for this whole debacle, as I took a break to get some writing done, but it's nice to see that they eventually pulled back on this whole 'name display Real ID' thing. Because I agree with what everyone else here said: it's too much of a security risk to bother.
As for purchases, I don't mind if Blizzard gives away vanity items in exchange for cash. Pets and mounts aren't required to get farther in the game and they won't enhance your gameplay in any way other than enjoyability and maaabye spending a few gold less on a mount when you first get to that level. When/if they start giving away gear or enchants or gems or whatever, now THAT is when the problem would start, because at that moment you're enabling lazy people to get ahead with cash instead of hard work and practice.
