I actually don't know any companies that do allow it, to be honest! I mean, clearly people get away with doing, say, Pokemon plushies and such all the time. But it's still totally illegal. Most if not all fan art sales are very much illegal, it's just so huge a market that most companies (especially big ones) stopped caring.

I don't mean that in support of this decision, or against it. It's just an annoying fact about fan art.

^ This is why I'm so stupidly uncomfortable making art of existing things I really love with hopes of being able to possibly one day set up a table at a con because whenever I'm at a con, the only items I see selling are fan-made off existing copyrighted things and I'm too nervous of a big guy saying "we're gonna sue you for copyright infringement because you're art is <bla bla bla whatever reason they want to come up with>" cause honestly people sue for the stupidest things in the world and it can happen at the drop of a hat out of nowhere and I want no part of it x_____x

Unless it's Disney work you should be fine. Most companies don't do that kind of thing unless you are selling offical art as your own and the ones that do tend to get a lot of backlash and fans leaving them.

I think cons are generally safe for fan art sales. Also websites, as far as I can tell- I can't count the number of sites that sell pokemon, MLP, and various anime merch.

It's generally pretty unlikely that the hammer will fall, unless you start claiming that the official a- ...Cow beat me to it!

Ahhkay. Hopefully no one ever does at the con's! I've never heard of anyone from a con getting flak from a company but I'm obsessively keen to stay on peoples good sides so I tend to take particularly extra large precautions for things minor and major. I'm worried about Etsy too though, we only get a few conventions a year and they're all in summer time and I'm hoping to find a site that I can sell digital and handmade goods that are based off copyright concepts such as, well, Pokemon as that's a huge fad with people xD

Gotta go though so can't continue conversation, but also derailing thread so I'ma just scoot on out >.>;;

One thing though I find quite irritating with FR that is related to this conversation though. The skins people make that they present to the team. Like, the ones that get chosen for the holiday's and the gem market. You're not allowed to make more of either of them are you? I know that the ones that go in the gem shop become property of Flight Rising and you're not allowed to use them anymore. Like, at all. On any site. It's now absolute property of FR.

Least, that's how I understand their warnings for sending in skins to be chosen for the gem market. I won't ever make skins for a holiday or the gem market cause the way they have put it that comes off to me, they're accepting it from me but forcing me to never let anyone else have the opportunity to have the picture. I just can't tell if they're refusing to let you have more made on their website or if its literally now permanently FR copyrighted and you're not allowed to sell it anywhere else.

I know that they have the line art and shadows copyrighted cause they made those. They made the dragon. But does their clause also prevent you from selling the skin if the line art and shadows were re-drawn and changed and while the dragon still looks like the original concept, has a variety of changes to it that no longer makes it remotely that species?

Most companies well Animation studios and game studios veiw it as free advertising for thier own product. When ever the topic was brought up in the talks we had at animation school with some creators of shows and stuff that's what they said. It shows people like their creations and the people who may not have any offical products to sell of their work especially like it.

If I made a show and saw someone making fanart of it to sell I'd be really happy because it shows that someone liked my work so much that they'd put that much time into it.

You don't want to be like Disney and try and get small schools in NZ shut down for having their characters in a bathroom XD

Anyway that's my views on the subject. Sure I know it's their legal right to do so but it's off putting to me thats all.

I'm going to skip making chibis of their dragons and move to How to train your dragons ones instead :p

Disney actually said they didn't want to sue that daycare. They were required by law too, otherwise they risked losing their trademarks and then it would just be a free for all on those characters. At least FR is allowing unlimited digital commission still. You just can't sell more then 5 prints total X|

That's not what I heard at all. It was on the news here and Disney did not once say that at all. Dreamworks gave them permission to paint their characters on that school after all that.

Edit: look I know about trademarks and all that I've had classes but they could of done what Dreamworks did after and just let them have permission to use them. It was just a small school theere where better ways of handling it.

This is going to be the dumbest rant but I HAVE to make it. Why the hell is EVERY egg I've hatched over the last several months been a Fae or a Tundra????? The two breeds in the entire game I like the least!!! No joke every one has been one of those two breeds and I've hatched A LOT of eggs. 98% of which I bought with either treasure or gems. I've stopped buying unhatched eggs. I refuse at this point because I always end up with a fae or tundra.
I happen to get lucky and find one??? I'm selling it as an egg. The damned hatched babies aren't selling right now or if they are it's dirt cheap. The market seems to have plummeted on them. UGH.

Honestly, I don't understand why they're so nazilike about the 'one account only OMFGWTFBBQ' thing anyway. Are their servers so microscopic they're afraid they'll explode if people have extra accounts?

I dunno, but I wish they'd lighten up about the accounts though :/ Like I know that people might use that to grind the fairgrounds for the daily 75k twice but really, how much is that gonna make the economy tank more than it already has? With people harping about "breeding not being the sole purpose of the game!" ((when it's a brEEDING SITE HOLY SHIT PEOPLE)) people having more accounts to buy and stuff dragons into will sweep the AH a bit and help with dragon prices.

So much this. They could even work it into lore. Example: If you're maxed on lair space , unlock a new lair by having one of your dragons decide to leave the now crowded lair in search of a place to expand the clan. The 2 clans would be allies, kin, and united.
