I've done that with many rares. One in fact, being Skoll. Another hunter landed, and I pst'd him saying: If you even try taming, I will kill it before you can think about it.
In the end, it turned out my friend already had Skoll, so I pst'd the hunter again, and said, all clear to tame.
It's a sad thought, but my friends gotta tame rares some day, eh?

... That poor hunter...at least he got Skoll, though...
Most I'd ever do is politely ask someone to wait, if I knew someone who was dying for a certain rare..but whoever gets there first, gets there first.

It's quite disappointing to see members of this community taking such a negative stance against other hunters who haven't even done anything to deserve such treatment. Threatening to kill rares gains none of you any sympathy, only the hunters you've threatened would have that right.

My thoughts exactly..
Countless threads are started here about people having rares killed or tamed when they're trying to get them, yet we have people who turned around and do the exact same thing to others.

The issue comes in when me and my friends have camped rares for hours on end and this other random hunter just shows up out of nowhere and starts to tame. That is what provokes me to want to kill a rare. I have NEVER ONCE killed a rare yet, but if this person tries to steal from the person who is STILL AT THIS MOMENT camping Karkin after losing him, I will kill him before she tames him, or at least interrupt her tame every time. I have tried talking politely to her, to which I received a very rude response and no respect at all for the people who have camped him for hours. That made me want to kill him even more if there was even a slight chance she was getting it. I told her that if she tried before at least giving my friends who had camped him for hours a shot, I would kill him or interrupt her tame, pissing her off and upsetting my friends, but when someone is a b*tch to you, what can you do? My friends and I camped Karkin for hours. There was no way I was letting some random person who just showed up tame him. If she was polite about (said something like, sure, but if they fail, I get a shot) then I'd be fine, but she was VERY RUDE to me. Alas, they DID fail twice. If she'd asked to tame if they failed, np, she would've had her crab. But no, she had to be a *insert VERY bad word here*.

In the end, my friend got Karkin thanks to my threats to interrupt the other hunter's tame or kill it. A nasty, dirty thing to do when I am normally a nice person, but my friends and I who were there for HOURS get first shot over someone who likely just logged on, saw the rare decided "OHHH SHINY I WANT" and tried to tame. She herself failed twice, too, proving that she was just as good as my friends at taming Karkin. It took my counterspell for my one friend to finally tame him, but tame he did!

Go ahead and hate me, ban me, whatever, but I would make the same threats over again any time, any day. I am not being part of the problem. I am trying to help people who have camped rares and who I have camped with. Even better, I could have got on my draenei DK and killed Karkin and she couldn't even report me for griefing due to faction warfare. But I didn't. I have never killed a rare (unless you count brown Madexx or something on accident, and I only killed brown because it is so common and no one wanted it).

I'm sorry if I pissed anyone off. I certainly didn't mean to, but like the other hunter said, my friends come first. And they HAD COME FIRST! They were there, they had put in the hours camping. The other did not. I hope someone understands. I'm not a nasty person, but mess with me and rares I camp for people, and I can be. =(

Just saw your post. Glad someone agrees that what I did was not totally in the wrong. I am not selfish, but when someone puts in hours for a camp/tame, they deserve first shot. Thank you, meepit.

Mind you, hunters who come in second don't get free reign to steal a tame either. Were a pet to be killed under those circumstances, it would be morally justified, though terribly sad all around. My beef is more with the hostility and threats directed at hunters who haven't done anything to warrant it. THAT is being part of the problem.

If people would stop being assholes to each other in either direction, this would all be a lot easier, but unfortunately, that's asking too much of human nature.

What i hate the most, even moreso then having someone tame a pet i was camping for possibly days on end, is when someone kills the pet BECAUSE im a hunter. They find it soooooo offensive that someone would even think about creating a hunter class that they have to kill all the rares they can so maybe we'll reroll into a different class and drive the hunter class to extinction -.-;;

Edit: This reason is actually why my newest hunter Bloodyrusco isnt going after the special pets, shes taming rares yes, but they're rares with a quick spawn timer, or ones that i can go to bed, sleep well, wake up in the morning and see them walking/flying around right infront of me. Im tired of the griefers so im going after pets no one wants and its working really well!! Ive bonded with pets i never touched on any of my other hunters and im already at 14 pets and im only lvl 55

Yes, in both directions. If that second hunter was kind, the other two MIGHT have stepped aside. They're both very nice people. But she was a complete dipwad and was very rude to us all. That is the only reason I gave her those threats.

I understand being angry about someone being a total d-bag about the rares, my issue was with people threatening to kill rares just because they want their friends to get it, and innocent hunters who just happen to find the rare get threatened.

There was no talk of the hunter being rude or inconsiderate in the aforementioned post, it was just "try to tame and I'll kill it" which unsettled me a bit.

(Agreeing with everyone about Meep) Yea, especially because it was all for naught since the friend already had the pet.. ive held down rares before (tagged and either kited to a far away area) or if that didnt work then just simply tagged and let the beast take out its anger on myself or my pet till my friend or guildy got there to tame but if tagging is impossible then i wouldnt stand in someones way if they are there and my friend is still far away because in truth, its my friends loss. Im just a messenger telling my friend the beast is up, if they happen to be in Silvermoon when Deth is up and i happen to get there before anyone else then its their fault that they will probably miss out on the tame.

The hunter did nothing i suspect, they just simply landed hoping to tame a pretty beastie that apperently already had a hawks eye hovering over it. Also judging by the fact that the friend already had Skoll, i think they're doing a fine and dandy job getting their own rares

@Everyone, I didnt KNOW she already had it, and I apologized to the other hunter. All I remember was my friend saying: Hey, I want Skoll, and I saw him up. In the end, I felt horrible, and ashamed. And this my friends, is why I swore never to threaten to kill a rare beast. And apparently, my friend isn't really my friend anymore because:
-She screwed our guild over because she wanted the guild to be at LK HMs, and we were only at the dragon boss on reg 25m to my knowledge,
-Actually killed Loque in front of another hunter (Which really disturbed me, because she wanted him)
-Is still screwing over guilds to this day =/
Really sorry about the impression I gave, but if I had known she WAS going to screw our guild over the following week, I'd just told the hunter, "Hell, go ahead with the tame"
That, and personally I really dont like people who leave guilds because are not that far into raiding content.

Aye, I should have said she was rude to me in the first post. I honestly thought I DID mention it! But looking back, I did not. But she really was very rude. After talking to my friends, they WOULD have stepped aside if she'd been nice. Neither of them really wanted Karkin super bad. They were both camping the spot for SKARR. Karkin was just a shiny second that happened to pop. If the other hunter was nice and said she really wanted Karkin super bad would you please let me have him? they would have let her. They both said so. So her being a dipwad ruined it for her and got one of my friends a shiny crab. Either way, I'm sorry about the threats to the other hunter, but she really was so dang rude that you'd have to have been there. You MAY have done the same thing. Perhaps not, perhaps so, but she warranted almost a harassment report for what she said to me. I will not repeat it here, except to say that: "!@#(!@*!@#@!*!(@##!" was most of what she said. And insults directed at my friends for failing, when she herself failed just as much at taming. She died twice too. One of my friends even had rez sick while trying the tame, so.... =(

Anni is such a cute pet, so his skin is common, so what!? Poor baby is in a bad spot! They need to make him less visible or move him. Perhaps push him back into that cave a little more. So you can still see him but he isn't as obvious to non-hunters or people who just want to kill him.

They need to move him behind that one other building. Make him like a second Deth or whatever. You know that hill with the tree dude for that one daily?

But that wouldnt match up with the challenge. It would take a lot of kiting to get to the nearest lava pool, but I do agree she should be moved.
