Anyway, sorry you didn't enjoy the game. The mob respawns work kind of like WoW's do now where depending on how many people are in the area killing things depends on the respawn rate I think. I've had issues in both games of crap respawning too quick on top of me and me dying. Best part about it in Rift is using soul walk to run as far away from the area as you can before you res.

The insanely fast respawn timer is mainly restricted to the starting zone(s), i'd day in the sub-lv10 areas - It was slightly more of a blessing than a pain for me.

There's only a handful of things that bother me about this game, but all of them are tolerable:
1. There's no descend button while swimming.
2. The camera doesn't lock beneath the water's surface when you're diving, makes it difficult to see.
3. I think you walk backwards too slowly.
4. If you want to jump across <insert some random object> in the game while running, you'll ricochet and go flying backwards.
5. If you're standing idle, jump, and then press forward (trying to get on a higher platform or out of the water) you'll move about 0.0003 of an inch and then fall straight back down.
6. Annoying macro system is annoying
7. serious lack of emotes. If I bump into someone I know I usually type some random /emote as a greeting, but none of them ever seem to work (probably a very good reason for that now that I think about it.) So if I stand there like an idiot before proceeding to type "/s Rawr" at you, it's most likely because I got shafted by the emote system and then ran out of ideas on what to type. xD
8. They need to break up some of the movable UI boxes into individual components. I like my, UI but I tried PvPing in The Codex and had annoying markers running down the centre of my screen with no possible way to move them individually.

That's it.. and a lot of those have really simple fixes, I hope they a few of those things around in the future. x3

It could have been my gaming mouse or something but swimming was not 'automatic' like WoW is. I had to hold down the right mouse button and forward arrow button to dive. My scroll wheel worked perfectly fine for everything else (as in WoW) but not this and I had to learn this from the help menu.
I did only make it to level 8 before being done.
The soul walk thing was cool. I won't lie, the game had some cool parts to it. But there was just so many things that got under my skin.

But I will say this for those reading and thinking about it ........................ the sole reason I decided to not continue playing was there was no immersion for me. Like at all. I may be still stuck on WoW to not let another lover into my life right now. But who knows. Things may change and they may not. I just don't want my post(s) to deter someone from trying. Not meaning that smugly or anything. Just saying.

So before my trial ended this morning I play for three hours last night giving the game a fair shot the best I could.

My first annoyance was that on the server I'd had my Defiant character on was full and the waiting time just to get in was extremely long. So I created a new character on a different realm who was also a female Defiant mage.
I shouldn't be surprised at how like WoW and other hot key MMO'S this game is. I had very few happy surprises playing which bugged me. I had my settings on Ultra and still had issue with a white ring around anything I selected. I experienced quite a bit of lag. I joined several Rift spawn events (if that's what they're called) which I must admit were pretty cool. It was also really nice to see that level 2 mobs hit extremely hard and yes were a challenge. My only gripe was that in the zones I was in mobs respawned extremely fast and I died once simply because I couldn't get away from how fast they were respawning. But I survived it and moved forward. Certain things came very easy other things were like "Huh? What?". Mostly everything was little nit picky annoyances that just bugged me. The final straw for me was that I had to look up in the "Help" section to figure out how to swim. I am sure this wouldn't have bugged most people but to me that was the straw that broke the camel's back on the game. With that I exited the game and deleted it.
I can see, for some, this game being extremely good and a lot of fun. But for me ............. nope. There was ZERO immersion for me in the game to which really sucked. So there were a lot of things that to me made me say no to buying the game. I did as I said and gave it a really good shot with an open mind but it just didn't work out.

Good review, even though I'll still try this game, all games aren't for everyone. I personally still think my favorite time ever in a MMO was in Phantasy Star Online with my SEGA Dreamcast on a 56k modem connection. That game was free to play online too which made it even more amazing. Too bad they didn't continue that trend with Phantasy Star Universe...

You mean instead of being able to hold down the "x" button (I think it was) and then the char just descends underwater? That's the main thing I noticed about swimming and it was the biggest throw-off i've experienced in the game thus far. It seems odd because the space bar works perfectly fine.

I forgot one XD; another thing about the camera, if you hold down the left mouse button to look around and then use the A and D keys to steer, the camera rotates with the char (when the whole purpose of holding the left mouse button is to give you full camera control and not have it jittering around due to character movements.)

Here's the thing though, right now i'm all bummed out because conquest pts rolled over on WoW and i'm thinking: "bleh, now I have to get all my WoW chars their arena pts for the week." - So that game has become something of a chore for me and i'm not liking it one bit. At least it's PvP though. <3

Update: I'm getting a bigger harddrive for my macbook and am going to be putting bootcamp/windows on there. maybe in a week or so i'll check out the game.

I already bought a Seagate HD but for some reason it was not compatible with my Mac, or even my fatherinlaw's Macpro. Just wouldn't read that it was even installed. I read online that there were many others who had problems with Seagates and Macs, but I think it was just a bad unit.

I'm opting for the similar WD Scorpio Black next to try that one to see if that works
