Tyger, could I get another roll? Sorry, it was kind of hidden above Azu's post, so I can understand missing it. ^.^

Yeah, I'm sorry, I totally forgot. >_< Sorry about that Lupis, it's not that it was buried, I'm just an idiot going crazy and spinning circles around Un'Goro trying to find devilsaurs that don't seem to exist.

I need to stop going into threads just to go off-topic to help people. Or maybe I don't. Eh.

Most devilsaurs in Un'Goro (the three main varieties) seem to share spawn points. If you can't seem to find the colour you want, you may need to kill the ones that are up.

I'm aware on how to find the devilsaurs. ;) I've even logged their ID's into _NPCScan when I'm looking for a certain color just to find them, however, I flew around Un'Goro for probably a good 30 minutes to an hour and only found two devilsaurs, one regular red, which I killed to bump the respawn up, and King Mosh, whom I left alone. Those were the only ones I saw during that whole time as I flew around all known spawns and pathing routes. It's not that I don't know how to find them so much as they just weren't there. My guess is there were just enough people questing to be killing them during the times I wasn't flying in a particular location. Though not that I ever saw any corpses, either. My other, more silly, guess is that my King Krush was scaring them all away because he feels I don't need to tame any other devilsaurs, even if it would only be temporary. :)

Right, so, since, for whatever reason, I couldn't seem to really find *any* devilsaurs in Un'Goro, I opted to head for Feralas to nab the wind serpent since I didn't want to spend all day on this project.

These guys are really easy to find along the coast of Feralas so at Nani's level it was just a matter of fly in, land, and tame.
Image

I've personally never really been fond of this wind serpent skin, though I like the species as a whole. To me this skin just looks like something a mad scientist threw together.
Image
Image
So this guy is the body of the red skin wind serpent with the wings of the yellow/orange. For me, not a very good color match up. The olivey greens on the red skin don't mesh well with the more aqua colors in the orange; it looks forced together and not natural. However, despite my dislike of this color mash-up, the wind serpent model itself is surprisingly detailed for such an old creature. The scaling detail in the picture taken from behind the serpent is not enhanced by Photoshop; that's what it naturally looks like in game.

The wind serpent flight animation is a sort of what you would expect from a snake with wings, albeit sometimes I feel it looks a little pained.
Image

Oddly enough, where this model really shines is in the water, though that's hard to capture in screenshots. They tuck their wings to their sides and glide through the water just as a normal snake would.
Image

To test out this guy's combat animations, I decided to take him to the Dread Wastes instead of pitting him against low level mobs in the area. Of all the shots I got, they came out rather badly, sorry about that. >_> Wind serpents have similar fighting animations to dragonhawks--they smack the enemy with their tail and they lunge and bite.
Image
Image

Their special ability (which I failed to get a pic of), is Lightning Breath, which increases magic damage taken by the enemy by 8%. That makes these guys great for groups with spellcaster DPS as well as SV hunters. They could bring moderate benefit to PvP if you were working with a specific group, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Overall I'm just still not very fond of this strange looking wind serpent skin and he was more interested in all the bugs in Dread Wastes than he was me anyway so we parted ways.

Pah, the one shale spider with no rare mob for its skin :P I'm also fairly sure I reviewed one before but can't for the life of me find it. Ah well, we'll do it again.

---

Varethyn had been idling in Orgrimmar for some time, the place even quieter than usual since most people had chosen the Shrines in Pandaria's Vale of Eternal Blossoms as their new home. That didn't bother the elf much, he enjoyed the quiet. What did bother him though was the sudden influx of messages from a strange person. Likely a friend of one of his new friends. They had been urging him, as a fellow hunter, to tame certain beasts for the challenge of it. Most of them he'd passed up, hoping they'd stop. But they still came. In hopes of quelling the flow Varethyn decided to take one up, the latest one suggesting a purple shale spider. From memory he knew they could be found in both Deepholm and the Twilight Highlands. Much as he'd like to meet up with Karoma again, he opted for Deepholm instead - it would be easier to navigate the caves there. Heading through the portal to the Stone Mother's dominion he took a sip from his Vial of the Sands to transform into a stone drake and took flight to where the shale spiders lurked.

Image

Many colours of shale spider lives in this cave, the purple ones being in a little deeper. Beyond the colossal gyreworm that enjoyed grabbing the unwary and depositing them back at the beginning. Thankfully navigating its circular path was fairly simple, a purple shale spider even greeting him at the main chamber of the cave system.

Image

Varethyn had never really understood how shale spiders worked. They, and the gyreworms, looked to him to merely be piles, or rings, of animated stone. It was also confusing why they were called spiders. They only have four legs opposed to eight. Maybe their behaviour and multiple "eyes"? The elf studied the creature a moment, it not seeming to be bothered by his presence. Left without any answers this way he reached out with his spirit to try to Bond with the spider.

Image

It - discerning the gender of a pile of rocks was rather difficult - was quick to fall to his side, quite content to follow its new master. Shrugging that off Varethyn took it to Pandaria to put it to the test. There were still a few things he needed to do there. In the brighter light Varethyn took the time to inspect his new pet further, naming it "Juvela", meaning "jewel-like".

Image

It was not hard to admit that it was a rather attractive creature, with the veins what Varethyn assumed to be amethyst running along its otherwise grey, stone legs and of course the seven large gems acting as eyes on its head accompanied with a soft violet glow. He still couldn't describe it as anything more than a collection of stones though. He also noted that it liked to sit in place for the most part, swaying slightly from side to side and clacking its "mandibles" and sometimes turning to one side then the other to look around. It also made no sounds at this point. Certainly a well-behaved and quiet pet to have.

Image

Taking Juvela along to find out what needed doing around the Vale today Varethyn was less than happy to find out mogu spirits were harassing those of fallen pandaren, forcing them to relive their deaths and seal their souls for wicked experiments. The very thought of dealing with anything undead always made the elf's skin crawl, but he had a job to do and so he went. He was grateful that Juvela was happy to run ahead to attack, though he did move closer a few times to get a better look at its movements.

Image

Ah, perhaps that is why they are named after spiders? Juvela occasionally wrapped the legs of her targets in a sticky, web-like substance that held them in place long enough for her to scuttle around to the back to hit the unprotected areas (how did that work on a ghost again?). Often it would also stamp heavily on the ground, sending out a shockwave.

Image
((Alani photobomb!))

It was hard to see sometimes, the movement was almost subtle along with the mogu spirit's lightning spells hiding it from time to time, but the shale spider attacked by stabbing the enemy with the points of its feet. Sharp or not, having a rock dropped on one's foot was painful!

Image

All the time Varethyn listened to Juvela. He didn't expect the creature to make noise after his initial inspection, yet it was capable of making squealing and squeaking sounds. Not gratingly so, like it was rubbing its gems together. How it was able to make such interesting sounds was beyond the elf. He quite liked them really. Another thing he hadn't fully paid attention to since taming Juvela was that he felt stronger, as if the shale spider was exuding some kind of aura that boosted his strength and agility.

Remarkable and strange, and durable given her stone-like body, as Juvela proved to be, Varethyn opted not to take it with him. He'd had several other shale spiders of ranging colours in the past and, while he enjoyed the company of all of them, he found he had little use for the things. With tasks complete he returned to Deepholm to let Juvela go, maybe to greet more passers-by that managed to avoid the gyreworm.

---

I'll take another, please :D

While Rinel was wondering through Wailing Caverns one night, she came across dozens of beautiful blue serpents in a small section towards one of the first bosses. She wished she could tame one and decided that when she was a bit older, she would come back for it. When she finally turned 21, that great loa, Tyger spoke to her, saying it was time for Rinel to test herself in Wailing Caverns. Excited Rin ran into WC in full force, she ran so fast she forgot that she was only a few levels higher than the snakes there and that it would of been smarter to recruit some help.

Image

Image

Image

Not wanting to wait for friends to arrive, Rinel ran in anyways. Took her a good twenty minutes to remember where the Blue Serpents where. And along the way, she tamed a few other things, tho never kept them.

Image

When she finally found the Serpents she was after, she tamed one and hearthed to Orgrimmar

Image

His "run" is just him dragging his bottom half across the ground, while his swim surprised me, he flattens out and wiggles for the most part.
Image

Image

Rinel decided not to name the Serpent, because a good name never came to her. She leveled through Stonetalon mountians and ran some instances with him and really enjoyed herself. His buff is really nice for the level. He even tanked most of BFD.

Image

All in all, Rinel really liked him, tho she might end up getting one in another color, those purple ones where really catching her eye.

Hyenas share that buff with serpents if you happen to find yourself unable to find a serpent to bond with. :)

No worries, Eternal. :) And thank you! She does have a back story hiding on these forums somewhere but it's in sloppy shape and needs to be cleaned up. I've been lazy about patching her up. Here's the link to it in case you're still interested. She's also featured in the RPs on this forum Tales of the Hunt and Fury of the Twilight Clan. :)

Not a huge fan of Wind Serpents tbh, never have been, and this one is no exception.

Nice colours, albeit slightly bland skin, and the red eyes seem to really be at odds with the rest of the creature!

The flight animation of these creatures seems to be very much lurching forward when running, as though they're just short of falling over on their faces :p

The buff, as mentioned above, is a Lightning Breath attack, which unlike the Chimaera's similar attack (Frost breath there) doesn't have much of an animation. It lurches at the target, and an easily missed small puff of lightning appears on the target - I was hoping for a big electrical shock type of attack. Alas it was not to be this time.
